  1. Never mind Stevo,, Quick, what's tomorrows lottery numbers?
  2. Hey, what an interesting venue. Party Saturday nite, Party Sunday, and everyone ends up in the cemetary on Sun PM? Not sure that sounds right.
  3. I would guess that even though the owner of the POS is asking twice what that car is worth, a good number of people would think that it could be had for a reasonable price (or a price within their comfort zone) at the end of the day. And I, for one, have longed for many a sweet car, but, I know what my financial comfort zone is. And I see little point to opening negotiations and false hopes for a seller when I know I can't consumate the deal..
  4. Wow!, 6 days to go, and 18 bids up to 56K, and the reserve is not met. We could fix all of Mr. Earls 54's for that type of money... Nice car though.
  5. Oh man! that is one sweet Buick! Sure glad I didn't know about it till it was too late to bid, since it is about 20K over my resource appropriation level. And note, the reserve was not met either... whew! That's scary!
  6. In all of this, what is the biggest time consumer? Judging? Award tabulation? slide show? Building awards? Creating the Awards program? This thread started with the premis that judging was the most time consuming and has seemed to morph into awards program presentation as the biggest problem.
  7. I would not blow air through the line to the carb. If there was anything in there you'd risk pushing it into the carb. As a matter of fact I would not even open that line till I checked the lines going back to the tank. I do not know what the trick is but I have seen so many of those quadrojet filter fitting strip that it's not even funny. If by chance the fuel line is at fault, you then might want to open the line to the carb and run a temp line to an old tank off a lawn mower or something like that, for purposes of starting the car. Maybe you'll get lucky and sell it before having to tackle the metal line. but if it is just the rubber hose at the back, just change it out. Even you can't use the car like that, and most likely you do not have to drop the tank.
  8. Presuming this is on the 55, I would think there really is not too much to test. The amp guage in the dash is going to give you a reading under the possible scenarios unless it was disconnected in the past. by this I mean it is live all the time. If there is a short causing a draw that's killing a battery, the guage would register a discharge when the car is off. If the car starts, and continues runing, I don't believe there is much left to test. If the amp guage is registering a discharge while the engine is running above an idle, the first thing to do is polarize the voltage regulator and check it again. If still discharging then the only thing to do is repair the generator. Note, at idle without the lights on you may see a slight discharge rate on the Amp guage. With the lights on you will definitely see a discharge. I was surprised to find out that generator in this vintage will only put out 35 amps. A Generator from an A/C car will only do 55 Amp. So if there is a lot of electrical draw from newer things, like stereo's or other goodies, then you may need to develop a different shut down procedure, like turning off all optional electrical draw a few miles from home and giving the system a chance to replenish the battery.
  9. Wow! I would have loved to have seen that one live! I can only image how far that oil shot what with the speed an engine turns when there are no plugs in it.
  10. Before jumping into a pump, have you considered blowing back on the fuel lines? This car has two I believe, and are easily accessible at the pump. I would not use a lot of air pressure though so as to avoid bursting a steel line. What I'm thinking is the gas line at the tank end may be original and deteriorated or completely broken by this point in life.
  11. Wish I could help but all I can offer is moral support. Get the bastards! They have some nerve! Some of these local politicians really deserve a taste of their own medicine.
  12. I would imagine it is possible for the diaphram to rupture if it was at all weak and then got a nice shot of ethanol on it. What unfortunate timing for that to happen though. good luck.
  13. Dave, that would make a nice tow vehicle for the 15. If you decide to go for it, I have a tow hitch that was installed on my 56 that you can have. It is a serious hitch by todays standards and is a reciever hitch to boot. It would need a reciever and then a ball but based on your experience I don't think you'd have any problem drawing one up.
  14. What's your asking price and how solid are they?
  15. Looks like you have a nice advantage from your position Thriller. Mapquest pins the trip at 1,863 miles for us, and estimates an unbelievable 28 hours and 48 minutes. By comparison we drove almost 2,000 roundtrip for Flint this year. Of course that includes day trips within Flint. If we can attend looks like it will be via Southwest Air.
  16. The coolant filter would go in the top hose. This presumes the heater return hose goes into the bottom tank of the radiator. There was a discussion on this a while ago and someone suggested using nylon hosiery under the top hose stretched across the top inlet on the radiator. I wonder how that stands up to the hot coolant? The filter I got I had to cut my top hose and insert it between the two halves. It has a stainless steel screen which is accessible through a cap for cleaning. It did take a lot of debris out of my system. That which gets into the radiator through the return heater hose is already in the bottom of the system, so it is of some concern, but not as much as the stuff getting back in the top and clogging the cleaned radiator.
  17. Cleaning the radiator was the right thing to do but without some sort of screen to filter the water coming from the engine, there is a good possibility that debris passed back into the radiator and is now clogging the tops of some of the tubes in the core.
  18. Hopefully someone got some shots of those I missed. The batteries went dead on my camera during the event.

  20. Back to school for me. I still don't have the knack for posting these the way I'm trying so additional photos may be delayed a bit. My apologies.
  21. "Anybody want to identify yourself?" First of all, Thanks to Peter G for the instructions on what when wrong with the original post, such that the picture did not post like I intended. I'm going to try and add a few more pics which might make it easier for anyone who wants to identify themselves.
  22. This car does look like it will take quite a bit of work to cut then fabricate and install new patch panels. Wish we could be there to help you.
  23. Nice. My family used to own a 55 with the under seat heater, and my 56 does not have an under seat heater. I just assumed 55 was the last year for those.
  24. Yea! awesome car. They do look so good when they are in such nice shape. Good luck with it.
