  3. HI Roberta: Thank you for finding me at flint. It was good to meet you, whish we had more time to talk., which brings up the only falt that I could find with the wonderfull gathering at Flint. 6. Tommy I should have taken a photo of my 29 coupe when I bought a new 27" TV. Had to set it on the trunk lid and tie it down to the spare tire. Didn't plan to buy one the day I took a 90 mile trip to Madison WI. I'm not going to put it back on just to take a photo. Terry29-26
  7. Try "FISHER BODY SERVICE MANUAL" 1926-1931. Lots of good photos, no patterns. My copy came from "crank'en hope" 461 Sloan Alley, Blairsville PA 15717. phone 412 459 8853. I have had my copy for many years but I think they are still around selling manuals. Terry29-26
  8. I have an extra one on my parts car. Can send photo. make offer. Terry29-26
  9. I bought a 29-26 that was advertized as a 1928 Buick. That is what the title said it was. I am not sory that the seller didn't know what he was selling. Terry29-26
  10. Hi Smitty: Where to start??? Over Heating can be simple or complex. Could be anything from blown head gasket/ craked block/head ,bad water pump, pluged hose, pluged radiator,etc.etc... One car I bought several years back had been stored in a shed for many years with the radior cap off. Found that some little verment had used it to store lots of hickory nuts.Had to take the top off the raditor to get them all out. Start by filling the raditor, start engine and look for air boubles. If exaust is leaking into cooling system you should be able to see some smoke bubleing out. If you can't see water movement in the top tank or if water poors out when you start it up it usualy means that there is blockage in the system. Start looking for colapsed hoses, pluged core, thurmastat stuck closed. Dose your raditor foam??Your 1925 has a grease fitting on the water pump and over the years a lot of grease has been put into the cooling system???? If some one has tired to use an acid cleaner to clean the system you could have a soap build up. Grease and lye make soap which I have found very hard to flush out. With out knowing more of the history of your car it is hard to pin point the cause of your problem. Feel free to contact me. My phone # is listed in the BCA directory. Terry29-26
  11. Please don't "dam" the computers, how else would you have posted your complaint? Find some young out of work mechanic and pay him to do the work for you. Let him learn on your car and benefit both you and the next generation. Only one restoration school that I know of still exists in the U.S.A. The youg people will never learn If us "old guys" don't give them a chance to learn. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to know that there are still a few old guys around that have the knowlage and ability to work on our old cars but us old timers have to get the youg people involved. I first started working on a 29 chev that I bought for $25. Sure that was a lot of money back in 1949 but just try and buy a 29 chev. today and see what it costs. Young people today are just like you and I were many years back, they will buy what they can aford and learn as they go just like you and I did. Are you willing to sell your car for the same price as a modern 20 year old car? Thats all the young people can aford. Thats what they will work on and learn from if we don't give them the chance to work on our old IRON. Just my $0.o15 worth/ Terry2926
  12. Joe;; You may be correct for the application in question but;;;;; if the wrong filter is used there can be all sorts of problems. If bypass and full flow filters are inter changed strange things happen depending on the engines oil system. !929 Buicks have a partial full flow filter. Oil is directed to an orfice that restricts the flow to the filter which has a by pass valve in case the filter gets pluged. When the by pass valve opens the flow is no longer restricted by the filter element and the oil preasure drops. Oil that leaves the filter oils the valve train and does not lub the crank nor cam. If a hole developes in the filter element and oil is not restricted by it the oil preasure drops. Misslabled canisters do happen ; you can't tell a book by its covernor nor can you tell whats inside a filter from the out side. If you would like to discuss this further please Email me. Terry29-26
  13. Charles 2: you are right and I am wrong.. Buick used nails and not spring clips back then. Terry29-26
  14. There should be several screws at the bottom that need to be removed first. Then there are spring wire clips on the front and rear of the panel. Start at the bottom using a thin blade(puddy knife will do) and slide it between the panel and door. Move it upward till you hit a clip. Pry gently with a twisting motion and you should feel the spring clip give.On the hard ones I some times use two knives, one below the clip and one on top. I have seen body shops that have special tools to remove these clips but I can't afford all the tools that other people have. Work your way up to the top of the panel till you have the front and back loose. The top should have a metal lip that hooks over the door at the glass opening. Slide the panel up and it should be free of the door. I have a parts book which I tried to scan to this reply but it dose not want to cooperate and just sits in never never land. I cand send it through direct Email if I have your address.
  15. Did you change the oil filter? Not sure about your buick but some eng.s run with releaf valves or bypass valves in the filter. If this is the case with your car it could be that you have a bad filter. Simple fix if all you have to do is change the filter. Make sure you have the correct filter for your engine. If everything was working fine before the oil change look for the simple answers first. I would never drop the pan untill I checked the filter.
  16. Adam: Just can't resist. Even Harley J. Earl could not improve on the bonus body style. Looks like you people had a great day for a show. Terry29-26
  17. Try WHEATBELT at www.wheatbeltbuick.com ... I bought a carb for my 59 a few years back, good price,$100,> put it on the car the way it came> car runs fine. I have a carb on a 59 parts car, been in the woods for many years but carb should be alright. Also have the rochester that I replaced because it didn,t have the starter switch.
  18. Can you send any photos? What shap is the eng in? will it run?
  19. Try a 1929 Buick.I have driven mine over 40,000 miles since 1995. If you can't do the work yourself then you had better get a modern car that the shops can change parts in. Modern shops don't know how to repair, they only know how to replace. People ask "how many miles per/gal do I get", My reply is " if you have to ask then you can't afford to drive one". Pre war cars do not get good gas milage so expect to spend a lot more for gas. If you have the time and money any part you will ever need is out there some where. You will spend a lot of time looking for parts and will end up with a few parts cars to keep one on the road. Back in 98 it only took the local dealer 27 days to replace a tranny in a new Dodge van That my sister bought.Only had 1200 miles on it. If you are young enough and have deep pockets you can drive any thing your hart desires. Terry29-26
  20. Hi OLD GUY: I am going as fast as I can and still going backwards. Terry29-26
  21. Can you post photos? 29 and thirty lites are not the same. Could use them if they are 29s. If you can't post photo I can send you a photo of mine.
  22. Help;; Mine has still not arrived, Is the mail a little slow up here in Wisconsin??
  23. HI All: Here are the photos I said I would send. These are the parts I had to replace to get the generator operating again. Seams that the Thermostat assembly has not been operating for a long time and the gen. was only operating on the resistor circit because it never put out more than 10 amps. Since replacing the thermostat and the resistor the gen. puts out 19 amps when eng.is started. My service manual states that when the gen. gets to opperating temp. the out put should drop to 7 to 10 amps. So far it hasn't fallen to the 7 to 10 amps. My book says that the themostat is not addjustable in the feild but should be sent to a UNITED SERVISE CENTER to be reset. (Anyone know where there is a United Servise center still operating????) After Removing the gen and all that that intails I found out that my problem could have been resolved by removing the band around the gen. and removing 3 small screws. I was looking for a quick fix. There is one for this problem but I had to learn it the hard way. I had to rob the parts from my 1932 to fix the 29 so I need to find some replacement parts. Anyone out there have the following. Brushes Main 2 # 35287 Third # 35288 Resistance Thermostate # 807180 Thermostate Assembly # 820513 Cut-out Relay #1867781 Have a good day all and hope to see you in Flint. Terry29-26
  24. Thanks to all:: You told me what I didn't want to hear. I was hopeing for a quick fix but I will have to take the Gen. off and rebuild it. Yes it dose have a cutout and third brush. I have finaly set the car up to get 14 miles/gal and didn,t want to disturb the dist. I will post some photos when I take it apart. Hopfully to day. Thanks to all for the help< Terry29-26
