  1. Thanks for the info. All I need now is for someone to find one hidden in the back of their garage! I'm still lookin'.

  3. I used KwikPoly (XtremePoly) which is apparently just like the stuff from West systems. I got several responses from people suggesting this type of sealer. thanks
  4. much thanks on your advice. I am not going to paint this myself. The fellow who is going to do the job wanted some advice since he has not painted a wooden body as yet. The actual start date for painting may not be for another couple months or so. Time to think over multiple opinions.
  5. My wooden 1911 cadillac body is now ready to paint. The body is sealed by an epoxy sealer. Everytime I ask how to paint it and with what type of paint, I get a different answer!! Enamel, lacquer, other paint types??? I am totally confused. Any help appreciated. Thanks

  8. I have the wooden body for my 1911 cadillac sanded down and with weak spots repaired. I have heard many suggestions on how to seal the wood in preparation for paint. Most suggest using a product called QuickPoly or ExtremePoly as a sealer. It is a watery epoxy that soaks into the wood giving a good base for paint. Is this correct? Any other suggestions? Thanks Tom

  11. I'm a novice at restoration but I have lots of energy. I'm in the disassembly stage of restoring a 1920 Overland Model 4 first edition. I removed the dash with all of it's gauges and switches. Any suggestions on good restoration shops to send the Stewart speedo, ignition/light switch, anmeter and lights (head, tail). There is a couple links on the HCCA website for the speedo but no place for ignition switches and the lights. Any help appreciated. Tom
  12. I have a 1911 cadillac that is ready for painting the wooden body. The wood is very dry with a lot of "open pores". The wood is solid. I have read in some forums that some restorers use an epoxy type sealer. The sealer is suppose to soak into the wood and strengthen it. It supposedly gives the wood a good hard surface for paint. Anyone have any thoughts or words of wisdom?
