  4. Here's a picture of the top down and a closeup of the top up showing the convertible-style bow assembly made by Le Baron Bonney. Hope this helps.
  5. The cab is a roadster pickup cab. These were used on some AA trucks. Brookville in Ohio is reproducing them or you can find an original. They use the same doors,a-pillar,gas tank, cowl and windshield assembly as a roadster. The top is a new folding top that is sold by Le Baron Bonney. The original roadster pickup top did not fold. I believe they reproduce the correct non-folding top as well. Good luck with your project!
  6. Ken- Email me directly at motoringicons@hotmail.com and I will be glad to send you lots of photos of this truck.
  7. Great (but sad) photos. Thank you for sharing them with us. I drive by here frequently and these photos actually make the the condition of the building look better than it is. Unfortunately many of Detroit's historical and iconic buildings are in a similar state. Years ago, Don Sommer ran his business in this building. It was also used for "dead" storage and was a site for all night rave parties and indoor drag racing (yes, it is big enough to drag race inside). Over the years, different artist groups tried to make studio/loft spaces inside. I assume at some point, if the city had any money, what is left will be demolished-and the homeless squatters that live here will have to find another place to rest. For now, the city is too broke to demolish the remains and the building is too far gone to be saved. Ownership of this building has always been a question but I believe it was abandon by the last group of owners due to lack of potential and lots of unpaid back taxes.
  8. I do not know who the prior owners were. It has been in Michigan for the last ten years and I am not sure where it was prior to that. The current owner bought it at Hershey 2001 or 2002 in the car corral.
  9. I have been using Trans Ocean out of New Jersey for import and export. Their phone number is 908-788-7001. They will handle everything from door to door including all customs, brokerage fees, paperwork, land shipping to and from ports, containerizing, monitoring, etc. They cost more than some of the other companies but it is worth it as all you have to do is pay them and your car arrives at your door step. They are also much faster than other companies I have dealt with. Good luck on your new purchase!
  10. John- That's a great looking XK120!!!! Hope your bride is enjoying her new gift!
  11. Peterdew, I remember the car well, it is a great, honest old car.I'll check if the Museum has any of the "bits" or log book, but I doubt it. Anything the Museum had relating to the cars was included with them at the auction. Congratulations on being the current owner.
  12. Peter- I am assuming you bought the PII Continental that was part of the MSI collection, sold at the Bonhams auction, and ended up with Mark Hyman? I remember the car and appraised it for the collection prior to the Bonham's sale. What parts were missing? I remember it being a very complete car. The car was gray when the Museum owned it and very original.
  13. Many of the Cameron Peck cars ended up at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. He was very active with this museum, donated many cars to them over the years and bought and sold some cars from this Museum back in the day. Peck and Major Lenox Lohr were amongst the earliest collectors in the Chicago area-they began collecting cars prior to World War II- and extracted many great early cars from the great old and prominent Chicago families. Some of these cars were sold at the Bonham's auction at the Larz Anderson Museum a few years ago (the National speedster comes to mind as well as some others). I have been a consultant and appraiser for the MSI collection and some of the cars and motorcycles donated by Peck are still a part of this great old collection.
  14. I thought carpathia was raw meat served at an Italian restaurant. Oh, wait, that's carpacio.
  15. Matt- Thank you very much for your great post. You certainly "hit the nail on the head" on many points. I will be the first one to agree, that, the 1936 Cadillac Convertible Coupe I have listed is priced high. As you stated, I am at the mercy of the owner. This is his one and only old car, he has owned it for 40 years, restored it twice, blah, blah, blah and it is a really nice and fresh car on all levels. That was his starting price-not mine. However, I know he realizes this price is not going to happen (even though he keeps reminding me of a similar year LaSalle that sold at the RM Hershey auction for about the same amount), and, if a real cash offer was put in front of him-even if it wasn't close to the asking price-he might just take it. I suggested asking a lower, or reducing the price, but he wants to keep it where it is for now. What can I do? Like you, Matt, I would much rather have cars that I can price right near "what they are really worth".You have certainly listed some great cars at reasonable prices recently and they have sold quickly. I find cars that are priced right get a lot of initial interest and sell fast-making everyone happy! For example, the 1937 Packard Super 8 Club sedan I have listed, is, in my opinion, now very reasonably priced given the quality of the car. It is being sold on behalf of an estate that initially wanted a lot more for it. At the first price, in the upper 60s, it generated some interest but no buyers, now, at the current price, there is serious interest from a number of people. If I could have listed it at this price several months ago, it would have been long gone. 1937hd45- I agree with you. Thanks for the nice words. I prefer our old 1912 Ts to this Cadillac any day of the week!!!! It's been awhile since we had them parked together at the old Ridgefield show! Just drove mine in the snow the other day, always fun to look back at the skinny tracks it leaves behind...

  17. SOLD SOLD SOLD! The estate wants to sell this car and the price has been reduced to a very reasonable 43,500.00 This 1937 Packard Super 8 Club Sedan was sold new by Joy Brothers Packard in St. Paul, Minnesota. It has been owned by the current family for about 30 years. In 1990, the car was given a frame off restoration to proper and correct standards. In about 2000, the car was sent to Brian Joseph/Classic and Exotic Services and the entire drivetrain was rebuilt including a fully rebuilt engine, clutch, brakes, etc. This car has always been stored in a climate controlled building and has been serviced and maintained annually. Today, the paint, upholstery, chrome, woodgraining, glass, dashboard, etc are in excellent condition. Mechanically, it is probably the best driving Packard I have ever experienced and cruises without effort at 65-75 miles per hour. It has the proper Packard radio, heater, dual sidemounts with metal covers, trunk rack, etc. 1937 was the first year for independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes which make this a great long distance touring car. This Full Classic Packard is ready to use and enjoy. VIN# 1016-639. Located in Ann Arbor, MI. Reasonably priced at 54,500.00. Please call 734-730-4274 or email: motoringicons@hotmail.com to schedule a viewing or for more information. Thank you.
