  1. Just discovered my 69 has a 68 drivers side front fender. [The wheel flare is more pronounced than the 68]. Will the standard 69 Cutlass have the same front fender as the 442?
  2. Just discovered my 69 has a 68 drivers side front fender. [The wheel flare is more pronounced that the 68.] Does anyone have a real 69 fender? Will the standard 69 Cutlass have the same fenders as the 69 442?
  3. What was the normal operating temperature for the engine?
  4. What was the recommended factory red line for the 1969 400CI/M21 442?
  5. 69 442 with M21 close ratio. Back up lights burn continously when engine is running, so I must remove the bulbs for now. How are lights switched, and where is the mechanism?
  6. My defective flasher is square, but all I find are round u nits-even at Year One. What works?
  7. I've just been told that an ammeter needs to come off the power side of the alternator, but a voltmeter can come off any positive feed. That means I have a short somewhere or a defective meter. I'm b ack to the snaggle pit under the dash.
  8. Can you tell me exactly where the voltmeter positve is attached under the hood? Thanks
  9. I removed two old underdash gauges that lit up when the ignition was turned on and were not routed through the dimmer circuit. They were grounded to the metal dash. This told me that the hot wire that powered the old gauges could be used to power the new lights in the oil pressure, Voltmeter, temperature and tachometer gauges. I ran a seperate ground wire from the battery negative terminal. The voltmeter and tachometer also needed the hot wire to function as gauges, however, when I attached all the hot leads together and all negative leads together, it blew the fuse. When the fuse blows, the tach and voltmeter as well as the lights for all the gauges goes out. Could the voltmeter be drawing a disproportunate amount of amps? If I don't attach the voltmeter, every thing else works. Do I have the voltmeter routed correcly or should I find another hot lead? I have the Tach operating and light leads attached together as I'm not going through the dimmer circuit. Where's the gremlin? Short circuit somewhere?
  10. I want to pull power off the ignition switch, so my new accessories operate when I start the car, but how do I even get access to this switch?

  13. The EGR port can be blocked off if that's the only manifold you can find, but watch the throttle cable length. It's usually different on a 4X, and can be very hard to locate.
  14. 69 442 needs wiring help. How do I take off the dash pad? Will this give me access to wiring and controls?
  15. I have a 69 442 400 with the close ratio M21 4-speed with a 3:91, and it's undrivable on the expressway due to the high rpm. The transmission gearing and rear axle ratio both have a good or bad effect on acceleration /top speed, depending on what you intend to do. If you're a street racer, there isn't much that will catch you with my set-up. If you want to drive at a lower RPM on the expressway, choose a wide ratio 4 speed or lower the axle ratio. The 5/6 speed isn't needed unless your at Road Atlanta or Watkins Glen.
  16. Need assembly details for re assembling horn components on 1968 442 with sport wheel. I seem to have all the components, but the horn won't sound unless I circumvent the assembly.I have the hub, the plunger pin , the spring, the round donut frame with the plunger tab, the center steering wheel button, but no electrical circuit. What component path completes the circuit? Thanks
  17. Looking for canister that provided vacuum for trunk release on 69 442. Probably the same for other Olds and years.
  18. Where can I buy the plate to block off the EGR opening in the exhaust manifold for 455-4v engine?
  19. Recently purchased 1969 442 original steering wheel was replaced with a 70 or 71 sport wheel. The wheel needs to be repositioned to correct horizontal position, and occasionally the horn beeps when I put on the right turn signal. How is the wheel removed? Thanks
  20. What is the process for replacing rear seals? Are these rope?
  21. 1969 442 400-350hp, 4-speed. How do I tell what shocks to use. I don't know if it has the heavy duty supension. Year One says the only way to tell is through documentation, but I have none.
  22. I've now heard that this 400/359 hp 4-speed cam doesn't provide suffecient vacuum to operate. Automatic is ok.
  23. I've heard that you can't put power brakes on this car as the cam in the 400/ 350 hp 4-speed won't allow for enough vacuum to operate. Automatic car is ok.
  24. What is the process for adding power brakes to 1969 442 4-sp, with 4 wheel drums. Are there aftermarket kits, or do I need to go to nos? Is it a bolt on change?
