  1. Do NOT JB weld that block. Heads on those cars are known nightmares. Also, use NOS gaskets, not reproduction if at all possible. That block needs to be cleaned and flushed. Do NOT run ARP studs. Your asking for more trouble than you realize. Ten to one you have bad heads.............

     

    Before disassembly you should have done a chemical test for CO2. Too late now. Also common problem with this car is drawing air past the water pump causing air binding........on shut down it expands and pushes coolant out the overflow. The car looks very familiar to me...........like the one I knew in Fort Lauderdale back in the late 80’s. They are fantastic and reliable drivers.........but it takes time and money to get them reliable.

     

    One more comment......if you weld or braze on that block, you will be looking for a new one.

Hello, it’s not a 1931 Cadillac Town Car, it’s a “town sedan” or “Club sedan”...........which means quite a lot to most people, in both money and desirability. If it hasn’t sold, it’s directly related to price. It’s neither a common or rare car. The market for these cars is very soft, and offering it in the states doesn’t make sense. More photos would help, as it’s possible the car is modified.........I was recently contacted by someone in the UK looking for help. If it’s the modified car, it will also be more difficult to sell. Having owned more than a dozen 1931 Cadillacs..........I’m very familiar with them. I may know a buyer that’s interested......but only if 100 percent stock, and priced at current market value. PM me if you like. 

  3. Problem is there are very few real 1931 Limo’s. Most that are identified as 1931’s are really left over 1930 units sold as 31. There are a bunch of 30’s around. So unless you have a name or a serial number it’s going to be hard to trace. Also, as a Limo, there is a good chance it was cut up for parts. If it was drivable and presentable at the time.......it probably is still around. If it needed a total restoration.......very doubtful. 

  4. If I posted who complained to me, you would be stunned.(Well known here.) It rolled off my back and I didn’t let it bother me. There was one loud complaint and there or four other comments. Some people have no joy in their life.......others just like to pull people down. Doesn’t matter. In the end, I like the car.........and still enjoy it. Interestingly, I have as much fun servicing it as driving it. After forty years of fixing things........there are very few automobiles that I still enjoy working on all the time.The White has been nothing but a joy. To be honest, I can live without spinning wrenches on V-16 Cadillacs.............other than that, most of the big iron is still enjoyable for me. AJ’s Stearns Knight has been a blast. It’s just so upside down everything seems new. I expect a thread on that will start soon.........

    Read my answer again......I was using it as an example. I don’t run minimums, but they are available for every car in every state. Since my 20’s I carried a lot of extra insurance.......when I saw a trailer back into a Model J at a CCCA event. I’m around expensive cars every day, so I have plenty of coverage.

     

    How Matt chooses to resolve this issue is truly up to him. That said, he has no moral obligations in my opinion to deal with this. People are adults and make decisions. They expect to be treated like a five year old if something goes wrong. Matt sold a car.......and last time I checked, he doesn’t sell insurance. The fact that some people are dumb as shxx doesn’t mean you owe them anything. I have sold thousands of vehicles.......we had a dealership for fifteen years. Taking back a car with a mechanical issue is good business to keep the customers happy.......I did it several times. It was a good faith transaction that went bad, so we just refunded every dollar, fixed the car, and sold it again. No big deal. Taking a car back because the customer is an ass hoxx .........never. I fix cars, I can’t fix STUPID.

    Jewlery grade. The diamonds cost 100k. There are photos of it surrounded by armed guards. I doubt the diamonds stayed on it long.

    Yes. 1931 Pierce Arrow Series 42 Dual Cowl Phaeton in brilliant red. Showed at the Kansas City Auto Show, then shipped off to a Maharaja in India, along with a Series 41 Touring in the same color. The Series 41 still survives. The car above is long gone. It also had diamonds on the hubcaps..

  8. Price isn’t as important as quality work, and knowing your parts won’t get ruined by a 17 year old kid with his head up his axx. Complicated water pump rebuilds can easy run from 800 to 2500 or more. All depends on the application. Since many water pump jobs on a V-6 modern car can easily run a grand, three hundred bucks for an 80 year old pump is a bargain. I know the current owner of Gould’s pump service......a very talented young family man who works of everything from run of the mill cars to world class Pebble Beach stuff.
