OK guys, it has been 23 hours since I contributed the image of the 1933 Ford in France , and no one has mentioned the headlamps - look inside past the lens on the car, does it look different? Stop gazing at your Easter basket đŸ€Ș and tell me what is different? Are they stock Ford factory headlamps? are they European? or are they a combination of both?

This whole thread to me is about making you think , observe ...................... yes, the historian and former teacher in me is still very much active and well , even on the annual country wide "bunny" day.

    Walt.......what's a Ford?Â đŸ€”

Sorry, I can't help myself sometimes.

  2. DOT since 1995 has taken decibel readings on everything sold in the US. They have a specification of noise at a certain rpm at so many feet. For a while at my three inspection stations in Mass, we were checking every motorcycle. Most didn't pass. I did have a work around to keep me off the hook...........and help out friends. Then they installed live feed cameras in the bays.......no more cheating. Noise will get their attention, so it's best to keep your modern and hot rods quiet as possible. A cut out is usually your best option. By the way, the DOT has laser exhaust testers at many locations taking samples.........when they decide its a revenue source that can tap.........every car is going to get mail tickets for pollution.

  3. It’s all related to the clean air act...........and when the junk was installed in cars. I think it’s all more towards more modern stuff..........OBDII bypassing. That said, all the stuff wit fun exhaust systems, chips, added turbos, ect.........are all now being gone after. Hell, does anyone drive a stock Desiel truck to tow with. I haven’t since 1995. DOT inspections made me take the egr delete plate at switch over to the “in place” bypass unit. I was just getting ahead of them. My truck is basically stock, with a tune, egr bypass, and a bigger exhaust............nothing crazy. I actually haul in stock mode otherwise you’re asking for transmission and injector problems. I do use the chip in difficult situations, and it has certainly helped save me problems. All the cool Corvettes with modified systems and the loud exhausts may be in trouble where cars have to be inspected. The very new stuff is so fast that there aren’t many upgrades that make sense.

Nice car.   Given the color and non supercharged status I think the price was fairly strong.   BAT still has some magic.

25 years ago I had a buddy with the same car but blown,  he was trying like hell to get 100k but ended up selling for 75 after a year or two.

EDIT:  As far as red on a prewar car goes,  this is as good as it will get.

Given it’s an auction and the buyer didn’t inspect the car in person.........it’s too much money for the risk involved.  It doesn’t take too many issues to add ten grand to get the car sorted.

  5. Enforcment is new..........state inspection stations were at one time checking for the devices. Then they stopped as long as you check engine light is "off". Already people are making an egr delete that looks like it is in place and working with wires going to it.......although it is a bypass. Looks like this stuff will all come in from China from now on.........wait till they go after the high end exhaust systems placed on the BMW's.

  6. We got our first tv remote control in 1966, but it didn’t work till 1969...........when I was taught to jump off my fathers lap and turn the knob clockwise by a certain number of clicks...........I was the remote control. About 1975 we got a unit that screwed on directly to the wooden front of the TV. It only went clockwise and you pushed it once to advance it one channel. In made a loud clunking noise.  I got my first cell phone very early......1988. Didn’t have a need to use it much till the late 2008.

In my fifty five years, the only great every day advancements : modern medicine and the internet. The internet is a “loaded” answer. Instant access to information, technology, video on demand, email, ect, ect, ect. Hopefully we will learn how to use it without it running our lives. We took a vacation a few years ago, no electronic devices were allowed for a week. Some people were passing out and getting ready for a nervous break down in the first twelve hours. Just because you can do/use something doesn’t mean you should. Instant communication and instant news cycle is damaging the country and the world. Technology is changing faster than we can figure out how to properly integrate it into our lives without causing damage. It does just as much good as it does harm.

  7. I checked my stuff in the warehouse, no Stromberg spare.......just some small leftovers from installing a new casting. They are fairly difficult to come by since the Duesenberg guys are always on the hunt for them. Maybe a better finish or a chrome cover on your current unit will hold you over till you get one. It will probably be years unless you throw money at it.........

  8. Do not turn the motor over with the bolt. Been there, done that, bad news.

Your oil pump is fine, they almost never wear. You can sometimes tighten them up, depending on the design.

Either take the entire engine down, or stop now. Oil lines and galleries usually have dirt and plaque in them.....so, you either take the thing all the way down, or stop before you get in too deep. If you need mains or cam bearings, you won’t make the meet. Clean the engine and pan internally as much as possible, then button it up. When starting the engine, run it for five minute with five weight in it. Dump it as soon as it’s hot. Then run 10 in in for an hour. Dump it again while hot. Then go to straight 30.

Do the chain if it need it. Do all the accessories. You want to be finished by June, so you can have enough time to sort it and get 1000 miles on it. If the car will do 1000 it will do 50, you just have to sort it as fast as possible.

Thought on your Cadillac. Hold on to it for now. I have my reasons, but won’t post them in the open. We can talk on the phone. Best, Ed

Should be back in the city in six or eight weeks.

  9. George........market on the nickel sixes is, how shall we say..........way down the toilet. I’m passing eights for what would be considered free money. Slightly seedy series 80/81 closed car that are running and driving can be had for almost parts car money of ten years ago. Shit.......how about a NICE Lincoln V-12 running and driving for 20k.........and the top goes down. Some stuff is in the basement. And now your money will easily buy two to three times the car of just five years ago, at entry level.

  10. It’s killing me not to answer in a snide, smart ass manor.......since you’re not AJ, and are educated, refined, and have a certain “je ne sais quoi” to your personality............it’s about an era. Not a particular year. Post war everything was different.

Think of it like this.......the jazz era, or the rap era.

Pretty fancy language for a low class Canuck from the wrong side of the tracks. Who would’ve imagined that I have savoir fair!

    Look them up!😛

Ed. so this was a true story.  Hmmm, does it mean the others you have told may not be! :)  You should have little time for driving around in that fine automobile as you have three magazines to finish reading.  Actually, I do envy you as there is not a single car in the collection I would not kill to drive to breakfast.

Come on down, and we can go to our regular spot in Delray. Every Sunday morning at the museum, 630 am sharp! Sam always buys!

  12. It’s a nice car, well known to Pierce guys in New England. I have actually driven by it a bunch of times but never stopped to look. The guys who collect this series Pierce...........placed a value on it of 7k several years ago. You can buy a wonderful one, turnkey and driving, in the mid teens.
