I admire people that do that for the sake of history. Rick Carroll was into J boat tails back in the late 1970's.
Now it’s just good business……….I am in the process of doing similar as we speak……….taking a car back to 100 percent matching………- 3

A 14 with a dual speed rear which is much more desirable would be 80………

Sitting at the FBO in Monterey………lots of attractive ladies here……….you know the type. The ones seen getting on & off private jet aircraft. Most seem to have modified and non authentic coachwork. Plastic and silicone seem to be the order of the day. 😎

Yes…..the current owner bought three cars to unscramble the mix and match it has been for the last 60 years……..I expect it’s a BOS winner this year. Especially since the car with a star is not cooperating.

I wonder how far people will travel to get there? Closest airport with direct flights is probably Boston, no? Would the same vehicles do 10-20% better in a more central location like Auburn or Harrisburg?
Portland is what most use. There are some decent bargains to be found there over the years. Fun place. Of course, you can use their FBO…..if you have the means. -

Is that Dieter Holterbosch car you are referring to?
Seems the car with the star went 💥 boom 💥 …………I didn’t see it, but was told it made a very bad noise. It was parked in a trailer, and did not attempt the tour. -
It’s Holterbosch’s car……..he had it for 55 years. Remarkably intact and untouched till after he sold it. The new restoration used original paint on the chassis and scraps of original upholstery to get the colors right. It’s now back to its as new delivered condition. I think it looks much better than it did in silver. I much prefer it over any 500 or 540 K cars that are here this week. Walking into the RM showroom was fairly astounding when one looks at all the heavy iron. It’s probably the most heavily loaded auction in 30 years for big pre war cars. Not anywhere near as much important American cars around. It’s clearly much busier here than in the past ten years. More people, more super cars and old cars driving around than in the past. Early on I thought the cars with the stars would fall flat and ruin the market…….it seems there may be enough people here to absorb all the stuff……..tonight we will find out. Watch the RM live stream starting around 5 west coast time………..the pace should be slow if they work each car as a typical big boy toy, but possibly they will move it along quickly.

Grill guard is unique, and I agree with trying it out for a while……..as to the fog lights………I’m certain my past comments and known to most. Fortunately, unbolting items is fairly simple compared to adding them. Packard always had great lines on their pre war stuff………it’s hard to improve them by adding accessories. How about a driving report?

Walked through the RM cars today……nice bunch of used cars, and a fair amount of decent heavy iron. We will test drive a few of the big boy toys tomorrow.

I didn’t attend the tour this year……just the lineup. Lots going on………and we don’t have a car here for the first time ever. They dropped the coffee stop in the Mariposa Woods, and the lunch was canceled from Covid…….only in Califunny………….so it wasn’t worth the time.
