  1. Well from the title and the two previews, this show has absolutely nothing to do with antique cars - it is all about NASCAR. I won't worry about arranging my schedule to see it LOL Bob
  2. Still not sure why you won't give HPOF a shot - I had lot rather try for the HPOF and not make it than get a DPC badge. Bob
  3. I am of the opinion that a car restored to "factory condition" would not do so well in most judged shows today because of the over restoration that seems to be the hobby standard these days. Bob
  4. Depends on how the cars are - to just say that you should automatically have 1/2 as many 1st Junior Awards is starting to be almsot political in nature IMHO. If a car deserves a 1st Junior it should get it. I have seena few that IMHO did not deserve it but to say that you need twice as many 2nds is rigging the judging IMO. Bob
  5. If the AACA shows were to resemble any Concours event I have ever seen, I would NEVER participate again. To me, the Concours events are too formal. I see it as bein g very "who's car is it" type of show, etc vs. the AACA being about the car and (hopefully) not the owner. I agree with Restorer32 - I have seen cars at AACA Meets get a 1st Junior that I scratch my head and ask "how?" !! Bob
  6. Easy, open door, put left hand on door sill, lift left leg out and push with left hand and right leg. It really isn't bad once you learn "how" to get out. Getting in is a piece of cake LOL
  7. ^^^ I agree with MCHinson - based on what I see and your description, it certainly appears to be HPOF worthy. If it were my car, I would: 1 - remove the window shades and tint (you can always add it back later) 2 - ensure all hose clamps, etc are correct for 1994 - incorrect hose clamps can knock you out of HPOF certification 3 - remove anything that isn't stock including any kind of cupholders, arm rests, etc. 4 - remove the radio and reinstall factory radio (even if you don't hook it up) for the show - you can always put the modern one back later 5 - detail EVERYTHING - remember you can't paint stuff in engine compartment but you can sure clean it well. 6 - take it to a National and see what happens Bob
  8. Don't think you will get a deduction for the battery (that is a mechanical component that isn't reproduced) but you will for the radio, window tint and window shades. My 85 Riviera had a replacement battery and one incorrect hose clamp that I know of - I got the HPOF without a problem. My 89 Corvette had a few things that weren't original and it also got it. HPOF is tough but not overly. Bob
  9. Except for the Optispark in the LT1 engine - poor design by GM Bob
  10. I second Marty's recommendation on the C4. The C4 is probably the most under rated Corvette so you can get them fairly reasonable and are a blast to drive. I have several Corvettes but my two C4s are my favorites - in fact I daily drive my 94 Bob
  11. The SLKs are very reasonably priced right now. I paid $5000 for this one with 98K miles needing nothing Bob
  12. I have a couple of HPOF cars and the only thing I did to it when I got them ready was to do a great detailing on them and replaced some hose clamps that were incorrect on the Riviera. I would have never considered replacing bad upholstery with better uphostery from another car, repalcing bumpers wtih bumpers from another car, etc. Granted my cars are newer and to be honest in extremely nice condition (had a few judges tell me I should go for my 1st Junior on the Riviera as it sits but decdied not to) but to me HPOF is about how THAT car left the factory - not how one like it left the factory. maybe i am wrong but to "refresh" the car with older components that look better takes away fromt aht particualr car being a true HPOF survivor. Bob
  13. assuming they are the correct black mirrors for the FC - triangular shaped base with longer arm and correct size mirror
  14. What's next - Driver's Participation Class at the AGNM? Sorry - I don't care for the rule change but no one asked me so doesn't matter. Bob
  15. ^^^ I have to admit that I with you on this. I have been around the hobby since 1978, very active since the early 90s. I have been extremely disappointed over the last couple of years between less than ethical folks selling cars and parts, club politics and the acceptance into so many clubs of modified cars that it has made me rethink my participation. I have decided to basically enjoy my old cars without dealing with the clubs, etc. I can enjoy the car hobby and never go to a club meeting or show and be very selective about who I deal with when buying stuff Bob
  16. When i was about 13 and spent hours going through Hemmings Motor News each month reading ads and dreaming of one day owning an old car Bob
  17. One question I would ask is "how important is it to you that you win a trophy at Hershey?". The reason I ask that is that you could always enter it in class judging and see how you do and realize you might come home empty handed or might be surpised and win an award. Realize (1) as Steve said, you will be going again cars with fresh restorations and (2) Hershey is probably one of the hardest places to win because of the large amount of cars in your class combined with the freshly restored cars that show up there and these can high point you out of an award. That could cost you a 1st Junior or maybe even any award as worst case scenario but you will know how your car will do in class judging. Another option is to enter it in DPC where you will most likely "win" an award. Bob
  18. The issue was that they had installed the crank arm 180deg out. I removed it and put it on correctly and that fixed the issue. thanks for all the advice Bob
  19. I have a 66 Bonneville with a wiper issue. Installed new motor and everything works fine except the park position is in the full up position instead of resting at base of windshield. I’ve checked everything I can think of but can’t figure it out. Any suggestions? thanks Bob
  20. No slop in linkage -it feels good and tight but not too tight. Wipers don’t catch on the a pillar but stop on windshield while moving
  21. Bought a 66 Bonneville and the wipers weren’t working. Installed new motor and now they work but not correctly. On low speed, they seem to “catch” as they go across the windshield and sometimes stop and on high, they go so fast, it is unreal. New blades as well so isn‘t blades. With wipers off the glasss, everything apears to move normally any ideas. thanks, Bob
