  1. And then there are the international Ebay buyers who ask a seller to falsify the selling price when sending a part overseas. Also not a good idea. Can't count how many times I've refused that request. One guy even left me bad feedback because I ignored his request and declared full selling price. In this instance Ebay removed the feedback because it violated their policies along with general principals.

  6. Makes sense to me now. I hadn't seen the original thread which was removed but now realize why. Still question about the Twinkie thread. I was deleted about 18 months ago and was given the reason 'not auto related' when in fact it was.

  8. The WPC is a GREAT museum and yes, it sounds like the vehicles will be retained. The restricted access part is a bummer akin to the GM Heritage Center; it'll likely be accessible but on a very limited basis. I'm not particularly a Mopar fan but this place just blows me away. Inside the beautiful building they had a great variety of some unusual vehicles, well presented with good information that was easy to understand. Only been there about a dozen times but going to try to swing by next week when we're in that area - if they are still open to the public. They would have cruise nights during the summer and special events, shows, etc. Part of what made them extra special. Plus who wouldn't like cars on a stick? Visit the Museum - Walter P. 9. According to today's Detroit News: Chrysler Group LLC to acquire Walter P. Chrysler Museum Chrysler Group LLC is purchasing the holdings of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum to protect the company's patrimony, but says the classic car collection will no longer be open to the public — except for special occasions. The museum, which has run out of money, will merge with the Chrysler Foundation at the end of the year. After that, the company will purchase the 67 vehicles and displays housed in the museum, which is located next to Chrysler's world headquarters in Auburn Hills. Chrysler already owns the building. "Chrysler will continue to share its automobile heritage housed at the Museum with the public during special exhibitions. The existing Museum facilities will also be used to meet Chrysler Group needs," said Brian Glowiak, president of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum Foundation. "We are very thankful for the generosity of our many members, friends, volunteers and employees and very proud of the Museum's legacy as an educational and cultural institution." Approximately 35,000 people visited the museum last year, though that figure includes special events and facility rentals. "Over time, the revenue just has not been there to sustain its operations," said Chrysler spokesman Kevin Frazier, who added that the automaker is keen to preserve this important part of its history. Opened in October 1999, the Chrysler museum was the first in this country to be located at an automaker's headquarters. The Chrysler Foundation said it would use the proceeds of Chrysler's purchase to fund a variety of charitable community activities and organizations.
  10. Several years ago same thing was going on at a show we visited for the first time in Toledo. 15. Un huh!!! Was out & about 5 out of the past 7 days. Another great event and this year the weather was near perfect Friday & Saturday, mid 70s and sunny. Estimated 1.3 million people along the 16 mile route with 30,000 antique, vintage, hot rod, custom, special interest vehicles of all types. We alternate vehicles for the various club events bringing two for Friday & Saturday. This aerial video show with a GoPro from a RC Helicopter was done earlier in the week, Tuesday or Wednesday based on the lighter traffic (but heavy concentration of vintage vs. new) and what is set up (and what's not) at various locations shown such as Shell, Pasquale's, etc. Lights & Siren Parade Friday: Woodward Dream Cruise 2012 Emergency Vehicle Lights & Sirens Parade - YouTube Dream Cruise - Friday | The Detroit News Dream Cruise - Saturday morning | The Detroit News Dream Cruise-Saturday afternoon | The Detroit News Dream Cruise-late Saturday | The Detroit News Mark Phelan: Two Swedes ship '68 Chevy Corvette across Atlantic for Dream Cruise | Mark Phelan | Detroit Free Press | freep.com http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=C4&Dato=20120818&Kategori=NEWS13&Lopenr=208180802&Ref=PH/Dream-Cruise-kick-off?odyssey=mod|defcon|img|FRONTPAGE http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=C4&Dato=20120818&Kategori=NEWS13&Lopenr=208180811&Ref=PH/Another-Dream-Cruise-books?odyssey=mod|defcon|img|FRONTPAGE http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=C4&Dato=20120818&Kategori=NEWS13&Lopenr=208180808&Ref=PH/Dream-Cruise-going-strong?odyssey=mod|defcon|img|FRONTPAGE http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120819/AUTO02/208190313/With-perfect-weather-happy-crowds-12-Dream-Cruise-one-our-best-?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|p http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120818/AUTO02/208180350/Woodward-Dream-Cruise-Big-day-classic-car-lovers?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120818/AUTO02/208180363/-s-all-smiles-2012-Woodward-Dream-Cruise-comes-close?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s Word on the street about the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com
  16. Yep, found!!!! Great news for the owner. And Foggy norm is correct, the tow vehicle, Ford pickup was long gone. [h=1]Police recover stolen 1930 Ford Model A[/h] Detroit—Police have recovered the 1930 Classic Ford Model A convertible and its transport trailer today on the city's east side. The car was recovered undamaged, said Dearborn Police Lt. Wayne Seccombe. "It was perfectly fine," said Seccombe. "What do you do with something like that? You can't go for a ride in it." The car was discovered in an area near Mt. Elliott and Gratiot, said Seccombe. The pickup truck hauling the car and trailer has not been found. No arrests have been reported in the case of the vintage vehicle that went missing June 26 from the parking lot of the Henry Ford Museum between 9 a.m. and 5:55 p.m. The car belongs to a California man. A $1,000 reward had been offered from the owner for information leading to its return. From The Detroit News: Police recover stolen 1930 Ford Model A | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com
  17. Instead of going with a cheap Chinese lift why not check out Craigslist for a good used, dealership quality lift? Just picked up a Challenger 9k 2-post and 7k Grand 2-post from a new car dealership which closed when GM was reducing its stores a few years ago. MADE IN USA. Price was very, very good and since the dealer was only a couple years old the wear was fairly minimal. While negotiating with the seller, I found several others on CraigsList for very reasonable price, averaging $1200 but some as low as $600 (need to sell NOW).

  19. You're doing it wrong. 1941 Hydramatic Performance On either the prewar transmissions or the postwar models, the shifts should all be positive, with no hesitation. The prewar models did not have clutch plates with lining, and the shifts will be a bit soft, but positive. Postwar transmissions had lined clutch plates, and shifts were strong, and positive, but not harsh. Reverse selection in the prewar models was tricky. In all Hydra-Matics through 1950, the rer wheels must be at an absolute stop. In the prewar transmissions, it was necessary to go from neutral, if that was desired, to "LO", and wait (less than one second, as a rule) and when the transmission is felt to engage, then, bring the lever into reverse. It is possible on the prewar models, to pull the lever directly into reverse, and do a lot of damage to the transmission. On the 1946-1950 model,, there is a "reverse blocker" feature in the trans, that prevents selecting reverse before the transmission engages. However, in all cases, Hydra-Matic transmissions require the rear wheels to be completely stopped to get reverse. In both prewar and postwar transmissions, through 1955, with the engine turned off, and transmission in reverse, the rear wheels are locked. This is the "Park" feature. If a postwar transmission were to be installed in a 1941-42 car, the ideal model would be a 1951 Cadillac model. this one has a cone clutch reverse, and it is safe to yank it into reverse as soon as the engine fires, without damage, and the selector quadrant still matches the previous years. 1941 Hydramatic Shop Manual & other info: http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/documents/1940s/1941/ 1941 Factory Shop Manual: http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/documents/Shop_Manuals_and_Illus_Catalogs/ Military Service Manual w/Specs for Cadillac Flathead: http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/documents/1940s/1944/
  20. Car buff killed on way to auto show | StAugustine.com Car buff killed on way to auto show St. Augustine man remembered for his warm personality, outgoing manner Posted: June 14, 2012 - 11:41pm John and Lynda Guarnieri stand in front of their 1955 Dodge Royal Lancer at a car show in North Carolina. John was killed Wednesday evening in a single car accident near Exit 290 on I-75 North in Cartersville, Ga. By SHELDON GARDNER St. Augustine man remembered for his warm personality, outgoing manner When John Guarnieri’s friends talked about him, they mentioned his outgoing personality, his love of cars, and his passion for making his cars “absolutely perfect.” He would spend hours in his air-conditioned garage tinkering around, and he won several awards for his work on a 1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer. Guarnieri, a St. Augustine resident, was a longtime member of the Ancient City Auto Club and was active in the Vilano Beach community, where he and his wife lived for some time. He and his wife, Lynda, were traveling in a pickup truck with his Dodge in tow through Cartersville, Ga., on the way to a national car competition in Shelbyville, Tenn., when they crashed along Interstate 75 North near mile marker 289 around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. A witness said the pickup truck made a hard right turn and ran into the guardrail and then into a ditch, according to the Cartersville Police Department report. Guarnieri, 65, was pronounced dead later that evening at Cartersville Medical Center, according to published reports. Lynda Guarnieri sustained severe injuries and was taken via air ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. She was in stable condition as of Wednesday evening, a hospital official said. John Guarnieri and his wife moved to St. Augustine from New York in the early 90s after they retired, friends said. He was a police officer who worked for the Suffolk County Police Department from 1970 and retired in 1987, according to a department official. When they moved to this area, they joined the Ancient City Auto Club, friends said. There, they gained many friends including former club president Bob Quackenbush and his wife Jinny. Bob Quackenbush remembered John restored three cars to perfection in the time he knew him and was planning on restoring another, a 1950s Dodge Pickup truck. He was a very friendly person,” Bob Quackenbush said. “He was a giving person.” He said he used to challenge people to try and find a blemish on one of John’s cars. “He was a perfectionist at doing it,” he said. “They could not find a nut or bolt that had not been done perfectly.” Guarnieri won several awards for his ’55 Dodge from the Antique Automobile Club of America, including a “First Grand National” in 2010, according to AACA staff member Lynn Gawel. He was registered to compete for a Senior Grand National award, probably in Shelbyville. Bob Quackenbush said Guarnieri and his wife were headed to the Antique Automobile Club of America show in Tennessee when they crashed. Car club member Jackie Phillips said that she and her husband were friends with the Guarnieris. She said they have two sons. “We still can’t believe it,” Phillips said. “He was very outgoing, loved to talk cars, and a very kindhearted man,” she said. “He loved his two boys.” John Guarnieri’s work is featured in an article by Joe Greeves in Auto Enthusiast this month. Greeves, a freelance photographer and writer who lives in St. Augustine, knew Guarnieri through the car club and saw him last Friday at the “Old Guys With Old Cars Breakfast” at a local Steak ’n Shake. Guarnieri had a copy of the article in his hands and was thrilled to see his work displayed, Greeves said. “He was very happy,” Greeves said. “He was showing it to everyone.”
  21. Just got home from a car club meeting tonight. Our guest speaker was someone from the Woodward Avenue Byway Program, she was talking about their plans to better recognize and present automotive history in the Motor City. Since the FoMoCo Highland Park plant is an intense part of their focus, Henry Ford was mentioned often in the presentation. Was speaking afterwards with a fellow club member who's going to be 102 years young in just a few months. I think she's got most all of you beat. She bought her Packard in 1949, still owns and drives it. Henry Ford was a neighbor and rocked her cradle when she was a baby. Margaret Dunning, 101, loves her 1930 Packard 740
