My first thought, but the ‘36-‘37 Chevy truck windshields also hinge out from the top. This frame has no holes at the top. Perhaps I’ll walk up on its twin at Hershey………

As I started to restore what I thought was a 1939-46 Chevy truck windshield frame, I realized it lacks the attaching points for the hinges that allow the WS to crank out from the bottom. Further, the frame has two bolts or rivets on each side, suggesting that this WS was designed to pivot out or was otherwise affixed in the sides. Otherwise, the frame is made in the identical fashion as the ‘46 Chevy trucks. Any ideas? Thanks!

How many remember when dozens of these showed up at Hershey every year- almost like a reunion. Some were originals with the weird pastel colors and shag carpeting- and others reflected the owners personal taste in finishes. I am afraid they have largely faded away with age- on the part of owner and vehicle. Like the rows and rows of Model-T’s in the Saturday(now Friday) car show.

A small contingent from the ATCA at the Carlisle truck show this past weekend. If you think trucks are not popular, by 11am the fairgrounds was full to the brim and the trucks were backed up to the Main Street. Yes, many are very new- but the number of different genres ( sorry about my French) seems to grow daily. I think there was something there for just about anyone.

eBay vultures? Wow, my life defined at 66. You see, I talked my wife into going along- 3 hour drive and she loves to drive. On the way, I tell her this is probably my last trip to DAF. You know, the swap meet has shrunk to nothing. And we get there this morning (Friday); and it’s very warm but not oppressive. I haven’t been for 2-3 years, so the swap meet looks…rearranged. Some of the old timers are MIA. But to my surprise, there are more vendors than I expected. And yes, almost all are selling car parts. So I bought a dozen or so items. One nice ‘63 gmc grille assembly that will make Great Wall Art over my ‘46 gmc; some great old literature that will compliment my oldest son’s upcoming 30th birthday present; and yes- a few items I will clean, polish, and resell- maybe on eBay. So I show the above post to my wife and I ask her: Do you think I am an eBay vulture? To my surprise, she says “yes”. Then we discussed why did the vendor bring those items and sell them relatively cheap? Again to my surprise, she said they are just cleaning out their junk and are happy to see it go away. So the vulture is performing a positive function. So here is the conclusion: We should go to events like DAF; have a good time; support the sponsoring organization; and help the vendors liquidate their stuff. Don’t feel guilty if you make a few bucks. It helps offset the gas, tolls, gate fee, hotel, etc. And as long as enough of us vultures attend, the events will continue. By this time it was 84 and felt like 104. We hauled a$$ to a brewery in Hershey! Tomorrow, Mr. and Mrs. Vulture will be at the Carlisle Truck show. To quote the late Chip Miller, Life is Good!

Agreed. But it’s not like GMC information is easily accessed elsewhere. Chevrolet has a Heritage Collection, GMC has (or had) one retired guy who was acting as the company historian. If you have an antique GMC, mine is a ‘46, you get it wherever you can. Another source of help are the few part vendors servicing both Chevy and GMC trucks. Jim Carter Truck parts is an example, and his illustrated catalog is a good resource.

Those of us that are vendors in the Green/Orange field have been spoiled by “our” Dunkin seller. We sure hope……

One week away. Not much chatter about it. We missed it last year, it seems the swap meet shrinks every year. Still a nice event with great cars in a great setting. Anyone planning on going? Better yet, anyone planning on vending?

They have been rescued. My youngest son, 24, doctorate student at Purdue- spots these in an antique shop in Lafayette, IN. Sends me a picture asking- what do you think? My guess was 1959-62 Oldsmobile. I was close. Turns out there are 3 there, $5 each. Maybe they’ll find their way east by October.

At $5 each, they seem to be a good deal. OEM, aftermarket- any ideas? Thanks.

Just my 2 cents after attending for about 50 years and booking a hotel for the last 20 or so. Hotels on the north side of Harrisburg, especially those along/near Union Deposit Road offer a unique way to access the swap meet field. Hop on Union Deposit headed north (away from 83). It takes you on a circuitous route thru farmland and floodplain and ends at the now-closed (?) Canal House restaurant. Hang a quick right and suddenly you are at RT 39, directly opposite the new AACA HQ. We used to book a room at the Best Western Premier, a wonderful place just off Union Deposit and within sight of 83. If you booked it in January, the rooms were in the range of $125. Later they would rise as all area hotel rooms do. But lately the BWP starts out the year high, so we have moved elsewhere. If you’re not booking a room in January, you are not going to get a good deal.

According to his Museum’s website, Dr. Simeone passed while attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans. If this report is true, the car community has lost a significant personality. God Bless him and his family.

The swap meet vendors would fit nicely into Hershey. That seems fitting, as the French probably inspired the term Flea Market.

Think it’s all old? My 87 year old friend got pulled over and cited for having his HC placard hanging from his rear view mirror. Huh?

A classic case of poor management killing off a good thing. Somehow they managed to piss off both buyers and sellers- and of course many of us are both. Maybe they think they can remake themselves as another Amazon. Or maybe they will revert back to a place to sell Beanie Babies.

Jack stands; and I slide the car wheels under the car with me. There are no do overs.
