  1. Peter, one thing I forgot to tell all is my cars are heavy! the 26 Wills is 3900 lbs, the 30 Pierce is 4600 lbs., so tire loads are very important to me. The trailer is 3400 lbs empty. You will get some releveling of the trailer and tow vehicles with the tension bars, but on cars this heavy it will not be like a 2000 lb. car. With me traveling at 17000 lbs + I want it right the first time! Towing is fun, but you must have it set correctly. Look at all the tire ratings and you will see the 10000 lb trailer will have less than 2900 lb rating on each tire. This makes un-level loads a danger in a hurry. I hope this explains it better. Karl
  2. My 2 cents worth: When I set the adjustable hitch up new, I set the front and rear of the empty box ( when lowered on the vehicle) to be level within 1 inch. Allowing it to be lower in the front. This keeps the load rating of the tires correct. We have all seen miss loaded trailers that have the front down 4 inches or more. This over loads the 2 front tires making them over heat and blow out! When I put one of my cars in the enclosed trailer I want the Trailer to stay level from front to back, I measure again and adjust the car from front to back in the trailer to set this leveling of the trailer. I then set the tortion bars on the hitch to the chain link that will give me no neck jerking going down the road (not enough tension on front wheels) or constant steering correction( too much tortion bar load) this can be felt in short order after starting out. If I feel either of these conditions I PULL OVER and re-adjust the bars. The more you tow the same car, you will know what settings to use. The 10000 lb trailer for 7000 lb load is ideal because it give you some fogiveness on the tire ratings too. 400-600 lb load on the hitch makes my 4X4 Excursion go down 1-1/2 inches when lowering on the ball with the trailer loaded. the same 10000 lb trailer will only move it 3/4 inches when empty, this is when you would see the tractor trailers want to pull you without torsion bars, or too light on the bars. Last note , the big oil tanker trucks seem to pull my enclosed trailer empty more than any 53 ft trailer ever has... Karl
  3. Peter & Bruce, When I saw the Goldfish, it was going East between the Choc. Field and the Giant Center (old Green Field). That is the scenic way to Langhorne! After looking at the Goldfish web page it confirmed just how big this thing was. It shows the fish at 23 feet. It would take a big net to land that one! I never noticed the Plant at the Reading/Lancaster exit, but will keep my eye out for it next time I am there. Do you go North or South on 222? Thanks, Karl
  4. John, I know Rand Broadstreet from Ohio sets up with lots of interior guages and carbs in the Blue field. I just looked his Phone number up from the Pre-16 parts ad he runs in Hemmings, Try his: 440-786-8141, I hope he's the one your looking for. Karl
  5. 66 Mystery Chevelle, I am sorry about that <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />, but it is interesting to see what the classes in AACA judging will put next to each other. Hershey number 35 for me, my first years at Hershey were spent helping in flea spaces over in the blue field next to the row of garages,(now long gone) that housed the good food from the Fire Companies, Churches, and the VFW. This year, my week was spent selling tools and jacks from tuesday till Friday, Then Saturday morning I was helping the Region get the Show Cars on the field, including our own. The week was topped off with our 26 Wills getting its Sr. award Saturday night. Only 358 more days till Hershey 04, I cant wait!!! Karl
  6. Bruce, thanks for the link to the BIG fish. Until Tuesday, I did not know it was on the road. I have photos of me with the other above mentioned weird cars. I was looking for it somewhere in that big "DRY" Hershey fish bowl hoping to add one more photo to the collection. I don't know if HERCO owns that company or not. Thanks again, Karl
  7. Restorer 32, Did you get a photo of your car parked next to that Hispano-Suiza, They both looked great in the sunshine! ( The only difference was his wheelbase was just a little longer.) Good to see you again, Karl
  8. While setting up our flea space on Tuesday, a car shaped like a "goldfish" cracker went by on Hershey Park Drive. Did anyone get a picture of this odd ball addition to the likes of the weinermobile , the Hershey Kiss car, the Moxie car, The Planters Peanut car, etc. I never saw it anywhere else in my travels last week. If you got a photo, please post it so everyone can see this thing!!! Thanks, Karl
  9. 1937hd45, No, it has never been close to blowing in the wind. at 20 X 60 ft. we worry more about rain, ( puddling) with our low pitch roof, than wind. We use old brake rotors with 16 lbs of lead wheel weights sitting on them to hold each post down. It has worked on the black top for years. Karl
  10. 1937hd45, When I get to the parking lot we measure the rear bumper of the truck, to the ground... When its all loaded at the end, we measure the sucess of the Meet by how much higher the bumper is off the ground <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> WE have TONS of FUN!!!... See ya there, Karl
  11. 1937hd45, Just finished packing 12 tons of jacks and tools in the truck. I'm done! Now only to dust off the Wills one more time and it can go in the trailer. Forecast for Hershey is good weather all week, 60's early, 70's by weeks end!!! Karl
  12. To all, Here is a show field map. The class 5 section is the row above the one in green. This is at the south west side of the field. Note where the Giant Center is in the picture. Note the car corral is where the cycles were last year! See ya there. Karl
  13. Big white tent at north end of walking bridge from car corral and show field. C4-A spaces 1-3, Big "jack" 20 ft. in the air. Large Wills Ste Claire Banner. stop in. Karl
  14. Europeancarnut, You need to get out your gas wrench and spot welded drills if your going to make pieces of that body. Here they are from my parts book. Looks like about 85 make the sub floor!! I have a 1958 220S Cpe. but the parts book covers both sdns. and coupes. Karl
  15. Rain, Rain, Rain. Anyone looking at the 4 day forecast for last year who was only coming to wander the fields, look at the show and meet up with old friends would stay home. My rain guage had over 3 inches in it by Friday night. Two of them on Friday alone! Give us good weather and the buyers will be in the field all week and the show will fill the Giant parking lot Saturday. As for spending... well when the stock prices are down, people stay home, work on the old cars more, thus spending more to repair them. Sitting on the beach wont get the car finished!! Karl
  16. Ed, the 1932-1936 drain plug wrench is 1 inch, the 1936 and up use the 2 inch wrench. So... you will be in good shape to change oil on a 39 Ford. Karl
  17. Tom, try contacting: C. Bouteiller, 427 Monterey Road Gt. Barrington, Mass. 01230 USA Phone # 413-528-2815 I dont think he has an e-mail address. He has a very large supply of early ignition parts. He has helped me in the past. Karl
  18. My understanding is the extra space on the Giant Center parking lot, not used for the show cars last year, will allow room for about 1200 cars in the corral. Assuming the "show cars" remain at 1650. This count will be known after the close of show car registration next month. For sale cars will be at the "pointy end" of the old Green Field and on the tunnel road that is used for the staging of Choc. Field Venders on Tuesday. They will not move from there for Saturday. Also "The Auction" will be in the Giant center for 3 days... so a busy place for sure! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />Only 2 1/2 months to go!!
  19. 1937hd45, I forgot about tractors, however any Massey Harris wrenches I ever saw only had M-H ######, on them, I dont know when they joined, or if they were ever independent Companies? . This wrench is only 3 inches long. (nothing on the back side). I will have to see if I can find a "script" M-H tractor logo. Thanks, Karl
  20. Hi all, the attached photo is of a wrench I found at a flea market this week. I looked in the Standard Catalog of American Cars and see the "Harris" name 7 times. Does anyone still have a Harris? Does the "script" used, look like the one used by any of them for the logo?? Looks like the closest Harris to me was a Steam car from Balt. MD. Just another one of those odd pieces of the early car puzzle to surface here in PA. Thanks for looking, Karl
  21. Here's a photo of one of the Midwest Wiener family, (the 1952 in the Henry Ford Museum). He looks a little sun burnt to me. Finally we are getting a sunny and warm day here in Penna. KRK Sr.
  22. Wayne, I looked at the photos I took of my car from yesterday, they show a dark and gloomy day. So I dug out a photo from last fall to share with everyone. (You can see the sun was out in Penna that day) !! The flapper is my wife Mary. Thanks for asking, Karl
  23. Restorer32, <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />glad you stopped by to see the Wills Ste. Claire, (you almost spelled it correctly). We got our First Jr. in that drizzle and were lining it up with the trailer ramp when the 3pm storm hit, so all is well. It takes about 30 min. to get all that grass and the feathers shined up on that Goose! Thanks for the Vote!! KRK Sr.
  24. Restorer32, I will be bringing my 1926 Wills Ste. Claire Cabriolet Roadster. I have seen tool kits displayed under cars before but was not sure if it was put out after judging or not. Please do stop by and say hello. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />Thanks, Karl
  25. I will be trying for my First Jr. on Sat., in Carlisle. My tool kit would live under the front seat of my car from the factory. If I display them on the ground, under the front bumper, will this be a "display" and deduct points? I am sure I don't need any extra... <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> for that. If so, can I display after judging without a problem? Thanks, Karl :
