1. I found that if I locked the top pulldown mechanism in the 'pulled down' position before inserting the top pins into the holes on the cover, then put the pins into the holes until they clicked, the top was easy to raise and latch. Doing that manually requires turning the nut in the truck area clockwise until it locks in place.
2. The CV joints are the same as LeBaron but the ABS ring is slightly smaller than the LeBaron. If you use a LeBaron halfshaft you will destroy the ABS sensor attached to the wheel($140 dealer cost last time I checked). Yours can be rebuilt with the same parts as the LeBaron if I remember correctly.
3. Sounds like you have the updated trans controller but the one wire is not disconnected. I don't remember which wire but it was in an earlier post on the group.
4. Well, by the time I had looked in my trunk at the antenna wiring, you had added a post chastising people for not answering. Therefore I didn't answer your question either. Took me all of my 20 something yearold years to figure out that 'attitude' and patience have a very big effect on how others respond.
5. I was able to sell my TC but had to do a near giveaway on the parts I've collected including the softtop glass and center armrest that I just got. Let the service manual go with the car so I can't reference it anymore to help anyone out. I did keep my 91 factory parts manual so I can look up part numbers still, and just in case I get another TC after things get better for me. I'm staying a member of the group and getting emails just so I can miss the car more each day. Ghostrider Riverside, CA triple black 91 has a new home
6. I'm pretty sure they won't. The tops get attached differently at the back and that would be pretty hard to work around and make it look right. Now someone will say that they have done it!
7. The salvage yard I got my white fender from has a couple of soft tops with windows. I asked about getting just the window but they wouldn't do it. They told me the whole soft top for $400. They are Qwik Parts in SanBernardino, CA and have several TC's. Said they had just gotten in a complete car as well. phone is 1-800-4allparts email to jeff@qwikparts.com They said they get calls about TC stuff quite often and buy them whenever they come around. I didn't personally look at the tops so can't say what condition they are in. David Riverside, CA
8. If we could only wash and wax a car before buying it! That's the time you see ALL the little things you never would notice otherwise.
9. Larry, you can email them to me at peavey7@hotmail.com I definitely want to see the photos of a blue TC. Thanks
10. That sounds like it might be just a short inside that bulb, try changing the bulb first.
11. Can't answer your questions very well, I do know the TC came with the Infinity II sound system with 8 speakers and mine sounds very nice but I don't crank it way up. I get nice performance but not neck breaking acceleration out of the V6 with Federal emissions, my tranny and controler was upgraded by the first owner, however. Nonstock color (blue) is worth less than factory paint but I want to see pics of the blue since I want mine to go from black to blue and have never seen one in any shade of blue. Watch ebay for values but there are too many for sale right now to get top dollar out of them. Winter is bad for selling convertibles, late spring is prime time. Put your location and email down and you might hear from interested parties. David Lawrence Riverside, CA Triple black 91 tca#0143
12. Mine only leaks at the first rain right after I put the top on (hardtop or softtop), after that it is tight unless in a heavey rain. The hooks can be turned to tighten the fit if you need to, they have a set screw that needs to be loosened first. Don't make it fit too tight, though!
13. Been there, done that! It has 8 or 9 bulbs in it rather than 1 so if none are working it is probably the ground wire grommet not contacting the alumnum strip that holds the bulbs. To remove the light from car, lift tonneau cover, locate 2 screws on bottom of light under the rubber weatherstrip, place towel on trunk area under light to keep from scratching paint, remove the 2 screws. Pull wires out of opening and unplug connector after taping to keep other side from dissapearing into hole. Use test light to determine which is power wire and ground wire. open light assembly and replace ground grommet or add a wire from one side of ground grommet to the other side, I used a light bulb to hold the wire on the bulb ground side, and the bulbs should be grounded. Mine has worked perfectly since this fix. Yes, the hardtop must be off and the soft top down to do this.
14. Alright you! That link doesn't work and when I took out the bar in the url I got 15 windows before terminating the modem connection!
15. That is partly because you can get over $4000 by parting out an unwrecked TC but buyers are looking to buy one at LeBaron prices. Someone called me Thursday to ask about my TC (recycler ad) but immediately stated they could get a red 89 with the same low miles (47,000) and no damage for $4200 from a lady. I told him to grab it fast and he said "so you don't see yourself going that low?". My ad was $5800 including the spare parts and the service and parts manuals which I told him was negotiable but not by that much. Sheesh, $4000 will barely get you a drivable economy car at a dealer these days! I'm just glad that I am not in the position of 'having' to sell my car, it would just make my life a little easier right now.
16. OK, my ebay bids are in place. Even if I don't fix the car myself, I can try to get the parts it needs. I am assuming that you are the one selling a few parts on ebay.
17. Does it still have the passenger front wheelwell trim on it? I'm in Riverside so could come take a look in person. peavey7@hotmail.com
18. I thought someone might try to make brackets that go from seat to seat at top and bottom screw locations and mount to floor under console. That way you would be pushing against the bracket from above instead of pulling at the plastic console from below. Someone would need a floor and console with easy access to keep trying the brackets until they fit good. Also that way, the switches would stay in the car when the console is removed. Just an idea that I have no way of following through with.
19. OK, time is up and this unemployed guy needs a small truck to get work. Can't believe this 47,000 mile TC won't sell for more than parts value. OK, I looked at the above line for a few minutes and just can't do it. Someone trying to sell theirs for $12,000 and I get no interest at $5200 or at $4700 just has me frustrated. Can't find work installing network wiring since companies in SoCal expect you to provide your own work vehicle. With a work vehicle I can subcontract and don't need those companies! Guess I need to go to lurk mode until I'm in a better mood.
20. My 91 with V6 didn't move the guage much when I drove mostly at freeway speeds (65mph) in Lousiana for about 10 minutes to work. Now that I'm in SoCal again with the stop and go driving in town & on the freeway (gridlock-way is more like it) that guage does the up and down just like it should. I never complained about the guage not going up since the V6 doesn't like to be overheated and runs better at the cooler temps for me. David Lawrence 91 TC 4sale in Riverside, CA peavey7@hotmail.com
21. I would check the fuse first. Those releases are just trunk releases so usually don't go bad.
22. I'll check into whether I can make it but might be a little far for me, especially that late. Ghostrider Riverside, CA 91 triple black for sale
23. Just did a quick search and found the TC tops listed at 2 websites. http://www.convertibletops.net/Maseratti.htm http://www.cabrioworld.com/ I did that search a while back and found several more that listed the TC but most didn't list it at all.
24. When I bought my TC I found the glass rear window in the soft top had already been replaced with plastic. It was a nice job of installing and I kept hearing about breaking glass windows so I have left the plastic in it. My tonneau cover sits a little low in the front edges and I think that may have contributed to the glass breakage, that fraction of an inch might be all the extra clearance the glass needed to keep from breaking. The fix on mine would be to drill the holes on the tonneau holddowns a little lower so they can be raised, lifting the cover a bit to line up the chrome mouldings. If I paint the whole car, I'll do that then, but that is a ways in the future if the car doesn't sell. And it will be getting warm here in SoCal in March! That's when the hardtop comes back off.
25. Got the TC smogged and registered in CA today. I had to put a new catalytic converter on it to pass because HC was high at 14-16mph in the test. The other readings were all very low. So now the price is $4700 as is if anyone is still interested. I haven't figured out how to mount the front license plate to the car without drilling holes in the front bumper, something I really don't want to do. Thought about really long velcro strips going all the way around the bumper and holding the plate on but I'd probably lose the plate that way. David Lawrence peavey7@hotmail.com Riverside, CA.
