  10. Good Morning: Have four used brake drums which I saved from parting out several 50's Specials. I have parted out a 1950, 1951, and 1953, all Specials. They were saved as they were very usable. I would sell whatever you need at $10.00 each and you pay the shipping. They would come from Iowa and I live about ten miles north of I 80 in Ames, Iowa. Let me know by email to me at brooker50158@outlook.com or call 641-485-6413. Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks
  11. Have a NOS copper head gasket for a 1925 Buick, model 25, and do not know if it fits the 1928 as well. Am not able to check at this time so if you can figure it out the cost is $65.00 plus shipping. Let me know at brooker50158@hotmail.com Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks, BCA #3939
  12. The oil filter on the straight eights does not filter all the oil but only that which the engine does not demand. In short, it is not a full cycle filtration system and does not deliver all the oil to the filter before use. There is a valve in the oil pump which regulates how much is circulated to the filter based on the demand for oil in the engine. Patrick W. Brooks
  13. Hello All: I have one NOS wheel which is 16 inch and in excellent condition. It has never been mounted on a car. No straightening, sandblasting, or other remedial work. Cost is $50.00 plus shipping. Thanks, respond to me at brooker50158@hotmail.com. Patrick W. Brooks
  14. It is difficult to diagnose problems without seeing the situation. However, I can tell you that oil does get to the distributor as it is needed for lubrication of the bushings which the distributor rides on. This oil comes from a very small hole which is cast in the block at the top of the cast distributor base. Inside the block is a very small "cup" cast into the block which collects oil which is in the air in the turbulent interior engine. From this cup the oil passes through the hole previously mentioned into the distributor shaft and down into the bushings and finally drains into the oil pan. My personal opinion is that it is not unknown that a thin coating of oil collects as you describe as I have seen it myself, although it has not effected the operation of the engine. Usually the problem is that the oil hole has become plugged and will not let oil pass and the distributor bushings wear out. Many times I have used a piece of wire to reopen the hole after an engine has set for years without being operated as the oil solidifies and plugs the hole. I have even had to reopen the hole after an engine block has been in a caustic tank in preperation for engine rebuilding. These small details are important to proper engine operation and lubrication. Cleaning the inside of the distributor was part of maintance and I am not sure I would let what you describe bother me. Hope this helps. Patrick W. Brooks
  15. Hello Dave: In late 2003 or 2004 I published an article in the Buge, complete with pictures, about removing and replacing freeze plugs. Check this Bugle article and it will answer the questions you have about removal, installation, and tools. Let me know if you have questions after reading the article. Patrick W. Brooksh, BCA3939
  16. Hello Dale: Yes, all these shields have a rubber strip that butts up agains the outside fender, where it curves. It is attached with large staples and runs (CURVES) for approx. the top 1/2 of the length of the shield. I have a NOS rear gravel shield for a 1941, models 50 and 70, and it is on the desk in front of me. If anyone is interested in buying my 1941 shield just let me know at brooker50158@hotmail.com. Cost $40.00 plus shipping. Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks, BCA#3939
  17. Hello Alan and Joy: Sorry to hear about the accident. Have a front bumper from the 1974 LeSabre I had for 18 years and restored and sold. At that time I could still get a new one from Buick. It is in excellent condition although it would need replating if put on a show car. If you need it, and it fits, let me know. Cost is $50.00 and is very close to you, as you know. Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks. 641-485-6413
  18. Hello Wayne: I have bought and restored a number of Buicks with the problem you describe. The adjustments normally utilized are for small amounts of play in the steering. The more serious problem you describe is attibuted to a broken spring in what is called the "rod" which attaches to the pitman arm which is at the end of the steering column. Look at the steering linkage diagram in your parts book or maybe it also shows in the shop manual. This rod is loaded with two identical springs which absorb most of the bumps from the road so they do not reach the steering wheel. The rod is under Group #6.230 and the springs 6.255. The first spring absorbs most of the vibration and bumps and I have found it broken and it simply floats in the rod and winds itself up leaving a huge amount of play in the steering wheel. Replacing this spring removes 90% of the play experienced. The threaded plug at the end of the rod is difficult to remove. After removing the cotter key there is a large slot and I have never had any luck removing it with a large screw driver. The plug is always covered with rust, grease and road dirt. I use a short piece of flat metal turned with vise grips and on occasion have had to heat the rod to remove it. After removal the componets come out easily. Buick changed the size of spring at some point. I have some NOS springs of both sizes if you need one. I am 95% certain that this is the problem. After fixing post your findings. Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks:o

  23. Pictured is an original 1974 Buick Chassis Service Manual for All Series Buicks. The pages of the manual are not numbered so I measured it to be 2.5 inches thick, which is probably 600 pages or more of detailed information and pictures. It has a tear on the cover but is otherwise in very good condition. This book contains the needed information for you or anyone working on your car for you. Price is $30.00 plus shipping. Why travel hundreds of miles to buy one and pay gas, lodging, and travel prices for food when you can buy here. Contact me at brooker50158@hotmail.com or call 641-485-6413. Patrick W. Brooks, BCA# 3939.
  24. Pictured is an original 1937 Buick Shop Manual which I have had many years, since I have had three 1937 Buicks. The cover shows some wear and a few oil stains, but is otherwise in very nice condition. It is 253 pages and contains all the information needed by the Buick repairman at the dealership. Included are the specs. needed as well as hundreds of pictures, schematics, and repair, disassembly and assembly directions. Such a manual is absolutely needed for your use and those who work on the car for you. Price is $35.00 plus shipping to you. Why travel hundreds of miles and pay gas, lodging, and travel prices for food to look elsewhere. Contract me at brooker50158@hotmail.com or call 641-485-6413. Patrick W. Brooks, BCA # 3939.
