  1. Pictured are two rear ends manufactured by Timken-Detroit and used by many early cars from 1912-1914. Early car manufacturers bought these parts and did not make them themselves, and therefore, they are correct for many different makes. While these rear ends are identical one came with a Cadillac (it had the hubcap on it) and the other from either a Spaulding or other make using this rear end. They are in very usable condition and would need the driveshaft to be of the correct length to drive the car. Each would need some small parts for the brakes and maybe some other small parts but the basic components are there and in very good condition. One has the triangular stabilizer bar which bolts to the frame brace and one does not. The one with the triangular brace is $1,500.00 and the other $1,000.00. Buyer responsible for pickup or shipping. Prices are not necessarily absolute but only a close offer will be acceptable. For measurements or further information call for Chuck Brooke, Executive Director, Iowa Transportation Museum, Grinnell, Iowa. Phone: 641-990-0752. This post made by Patrick W. Brooks, Museum Board Member and Buick Club of America #3939.

  12. Do not have the exhaust manifold but do have a reproduction exhaust valve body which is the piece which bolts to the bottom of the exhaust manifold and to which the exhaust pipe then attaches. This piece had almost no use as the car it was installed on was seldom driven. It still has new appearance as it was never actually very hot. It is vendor advertised for $495 and I would take $200 and pay shipping within the US. Have other gaskets and engine parts as well. Let me know by email to brooker50158@outlook.com or call to 641-485-64134. Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks, BCA #3939. Past President of BCA.

  15. Ben is correct. This is the inlet while the pipe mentioned extends down the right side of the engine in the air flow under the car. Extending this pipe to the air passing under the engine creates a vacuum in the pipe which then pulls vapors from the engine crankcase. My recollection is that the inlet was painted black as was the outlet pipe. Hope this helps, Patrick W. Brooks
  16. I have four NOS Guide 6 volt hear light lamps. Two are in the boxes and two were in boxes but the boxes were disintegrating so I discarded them years ago and wrapped the two up in soft cloth. I bought a box of these twenty + years ago and these are what are left. The Guide boxes say 6 volt, Guide 300 and then the number 6006 in large print with the number 596006 under in smaller print. They have never been out of the boxes or used. I also have one Tungsol 6volt which is new along with one lamp I cannot identify, although it is obviously old and would be 6 volt. I want $10.00 each or would take $45.00 for all six. Buyer would pay shipping and they are sold "as is". I never had one which did not work. Thanks, Patrick W. Brooks, BCA #3939, phone:641-485-6413, email brooker50158@outlook.com.

  22. I believe what is happening is that one or more of the intake pilots are not pulling up tight into the head. The eight intake pilots collapse as they are tightened as the port in the head for these eight is slightly tapered so that the pilots squeeze shut as the manifold is tightened. The purpose of the pilots is to seal shut so that the intake vacuum created by the engine does not allow additional air into the cylinder and thus mess-up the gas/air mixture delivered by the carb. If one or more of the pilots gets twisted a bit it develops a burr and this hangs-up the pilot and the manifold is actually not completely mated to the head. This slightly bends the manifold and as it gets hot with use the manifold cracks under this stress. The answer is to remove the manifold and carefully examine each of the pilots for burrs that will cause it to hang-up. Carefully file or grind them off and reinstall. I think this happens as the manifold is heavy and sags a bit as it is tightened and it is important to hold it square with the head as the tightening is done. Otherwise, the pilot is not square with the head as it is tightened and is more likely to be angled and catch and cause a burr. I believe this to be case as this very thing has happened to me. Hope this helps. Patrick W. Brooks, BCA #3939

He has had the car for years and has now decided to sell it Please call 515-520-0703 leave message and I'll call back. THIS CAR IS A 1930. Not a 1931. I can't seem to correct the heading.
