  1. Here we are a few weeks later. I took it to the Buick dealership early this week. Got a new a/c accumulator, hi and low temp sensors, and a switch to R134, to the tune of around $750. Worked fine on the way home and on the way to work yesterday, but on the way home last night--drats!--overheated refrigerant screen pops up again!! She's back in the shop this morning. Any ideas??
  2. Thank you, thank you! But you are right, the a/c doesn't come on at all. It blows but will immediately go into 'overheated' status. Back later with a report. You guys are the greatest!
  3. Ummm, how does one 'watch' BD27???? Will an a/c guy know what that means? I have a Manual but I've always just handed it to the mechanic. Means nothing to me.
  4. OK, what I got was the B449 Current. Should this be a fairly easy (read inexpensive) job to fix? Could I have my husband do it or does an a/c guy need to look at it? BTW, after I cleared the old codes the a/c worked GREAT...for about 1 minute, then back to the 'overheated refrigerent' screen.
  5. Thanks guys! She's an '89 so your instructions will be very helpful. I'll do the code thingy this afternoon and report back. Sure would be nice to have some cool air here in coastal NC!
  6. Searched for 'overheated refrigerant' in archives but only found 'low refrigerant.' Anyway, that's what I'm getting on my screen--'overheated regrigerant--disconnecting compressor'. No a/c for several weeks now and it ALWAYS reads overheated, even when I first start the car in the morning. History: Over the past couple of years, as the outside temp rose from Spring to Summer, the a/c would stop working, then maybe a day or so later it would start working again. Then, as outside temps began to fall, from Summer to Autumn, the a/c would start working great again! No on one day, off the next stuff. Mechanic has always told me there is nothing really wrong with the a/c that he can find. (?) Now this year I get the overheated message and no a/c at all. Worked great in the Spring, but nothing this Summer so far. Any ideas?
  7. You guys were right! As usual... Turns out the Buick dealership told the mechanic he'd need to buy a whole assembly. After the info from this forum they took another look, called in somebody who knew about Reattas, and replaced the accumulator. All is well. You saved me a bunch of money! Thanks, as always.
  8. Wow, guys! This negates the Jack Daniels I was drinking last night to drown my sorrows!! Thanks, as always, for the fast responses. You're always very helpful. I'll post back when I get this resolved.
  9. My '89 is in the shop right now. Recently (2-3 mos.) had new brakes and system flushed. But shortly afterwards the yellow light started coming on for just a second each (yes, each) time the brakes were applied. Red light (along w/yellow) would come on for the slightest second when braking HARD. Now I hear that I need a new master cylinder w/ABS. Will take about 3 days to get the part. Cost=$2100! And that doesn't include labor! Does this all sound right to you guys??? Suggestions?? BTW, I gave the mechanics the print-out for the brake tests, if that matters. Jan
  10. Thanks for the info! BTW, who is Jim and how can I get in touch with him? Is this something I can easily get someplace else?
  11. I have an '89. Yesterday, with a/c fan on low, she automatically started blowing on high. Sounded like it was blowing through the dash (defrost). When I turned the engine off IT KEPT ON BLOWING! Only thing that stopped it was disconnecting the battery. Any ideas??

    Weird A/C

Well, we checked it last year and there were no leaks and not low on freon. I was ready to do a retro fit but didnt need to. As I said it shut itself off but there was really nothing wrong with the system. <P>Any other ideas???

    Weird A/C

Last year I got a CRT message that coolant was low and compressor was shutting down. Took it to mechanic and was told nothing was wrong with my a/c--everything under the hood that was supposed to be getting cold was. He ran the thermo all the way up, then all the way down and long story short, the a/c started working again. (On the way home I got the same CRT message just once but luckily all summer the a/c worked perfectly.) Mechanic didn't even charge me!<P>Fast-forward to today. Same problem, same CRT display. Now, I've tried the thermo trick he used but nothing happened. Now what? Take it back to him? I don't really think there's anything wrong with the a/c, just something fluky going on.<P>BTW, she's an '89 with lots of weird stuff always happening electrically. Can this be electrical? If she's having an electrical problem I usually just leave her alone (even the CRT screen) and eventually she comes back to reality.<P>Anybody else have the same wacky a/c problem? Suggestions? It's getting hot in NC!
  15. hello,<P>greetings from germany...<BR>does anybody know how fast the mentioned riviera accelerates from 0-60mph and how fast this car is?? (in original version)<P>thx
