  1. Bob, you are exactly correct in your assumption of the Fuel Enhancer and it's purpose. Red Armstrong is the gentleman that developed this and many other products for the Turbo Buick's. The idea on this piece is to supply excess voltage (> 13.8 volts) to the fuel pump in an effort to raise fuel pressure. I have no personal experience with one as all three of my turbo cars are stock, but many people have used this device over the years with excellent results. A good place to find out more would be one of the turbo boards ( TurboBuick.Com or TurboBuicks.com - TurboCharged Message Board Turbo Buick Grand National, T-Type, Turbo TransAm ). Hope that helps.

  3. Kris, I did say it is better!! Much better, in fact. When I first joined, it was the first year my GSX could be judged (1980) and most didn't know what to do with it. Back in that day, when I was young and full of spunk, I'm sure I was part of that problem too. I've calmed down and I will say every event I've attended that the people have treated me and my family very, very well. I DO enjoy attending a BCA meet!! I am PROUD to say I am a member continuously since 1980. The BCA was the first club I joined and I've always had fun at the BCA meets. I am sorry if I upset you...it was not my intent. PS: Let the Opel's in.
  4. Keith, truer words have never been spoken, but I will say it has gotten better over the years. You ought to have owned "one of those sporty cars" 25 years ago...talk about outcasts!
  5. [off topic] Humm..no. A common misconception. Buick's 455 shared NOTHING in common with the Olds or Pontiac 455. I'm sure Dennis Manner, the father of the BUICK 455 Stage 1 would take great exception to your statement. [/off topic]
  6. My last comment on the subject. They did. Ask Mike Book. Good luck with all of this groups endeavors.
  7. Hey 'Berta!! No, I did check with Mike Book about dates and such. He and I had that conversation MONTHS before the BPG's August meet last year. He called me and asked when the BPG's meet would be so, as he put it, we didn't step on each others toes. I gave him our dates for 2010 and I am sure Mike passed that information along. I was very surprised, no, shocked, when I saw the BCA dates for 2010 while reading my Bugle at the BPG meet. We tried to change our dates, but the only thing, by that time, open was a September weekend and the same weekend you hold Norwalk, neither of which were satisfactory. We elected to keep our traditional dates and hope, no pray, that next year we would not be faced with the same situation. When the directors of the BPG chose our dates it was with consideration of other events that many of our same members would want to attend. That is why end of July/first weekend in August was chosen. So you see, I DID care and tried to play well in the sandbox. Information was passed. What was done with that information I do not know. I am sure the people putting together the Ames meet had problems with dates neither you or I know about. I understand. I really do. Stuff just sometimes happens. Windjamer, you and your Buick are ALWAYS welcome to join us in Columbus for the BPG Nationals. If it better fits your schedule and travel arraignments in 2010 please come and have fun!
  8. Gee, think ratrodnation is a 'bot???? Oh moderators, clean up in aisle 3....
  9. Adam, That's even close enough for a road trip for you!! Looks like they do very nice work, too!
  10. Mark is Lloyd Reuss' son and yes, Lloyd was head of Buick in the early 80's and before that, Chief Engineer for Buick in the mid 70's. We can thank him for the performance turbocharged Buick's of the late 70's and 80's. Lloyd went on to be President of GM in 1990 and was removed by the board in 1992 and replaced with Jack Smith (one can slap your forehead now...).
  11. I came home from the hospital in a 1956 56R, so I'm kinda partial to that year. It was my mom's car and pretty sporty for it's time. Painted Black/White/Black with a red interior. Quite the looker.
  12. The Rainer's were only available in the short wheelbase version and were for awhile the only version of the Trailblazer with a V8 option in the short wheelbase. You are correct Jake that they are a step above the Chevy/GMC versions. The interiors, exterior trim, and the Buick trademark "quiet tuning" really set the Rainer apart from lesser versions. It is very quiet to drive. You would have zero problems pulling the trailer/vehicle you describe. You probably wouldn't even know it was there.
  13. I own a 2004 Rainer CXL AWD with the 5.3 liter V8. Excellent vehicle and I love mine. It will pull an OPEN trailer without problem as I have done so several times with a 4000 lb car on the trailer. That being said, I would NOT attempt an enclosed trailer behind a Rainer. I have equipped mine with a trailer brake controller and have no issues stopping, turning or pulling away from a stop. Around town I get in the mid teens...highway around 20 mpg. While towing it will get very low teens. Ask any questions you may have and I'll give you an honest answer.
  14. You're right, Adam. Just think...dump a '58 and buy this for "instant" gratification! A very, very nice automobile to be sure.

  16. uhhh, 'berta....you forgot the BPG event in your tag line. ;)
  17. Probably was Gary Foster, the Ft Dodge guy. Super nice guy that built the engines for my two GSX's and also did a motor swap on my 1985 GMC 1 ton tilt-rollback (now 455 Stage 1 powered ) The Buick Performance Group is not the same as the GS Club of America. The BPG is a 501c3 corporation and sponsors a national meet once per year in the Columbus area. The GSCA is owned by Richard Lassiter from Valdosta, GA and they have a national meet each year in Bowling Green, KY.
  18. Just to make everything clear, Mike Book called me (I am the office manager for the BPG) earlier in the year and asked when our event was to be held in 2010. I gave him the dates and told him that we really could not move our date around much as National Trail Raceway was booked for all other weekends around our date. He said he would let folks know of our plans and I am sure he did. Someone in the BCA obviously didn't care. I am NOT blaming Mike and Nancy that the events next year fall on the same date, but it sure would have been nice for the two events to not be on the same weekend. Hopefully this can be rectified in future years. Mike and Nancy are about the best people in the world and, in fact, they were the ones to get me to join the BCA back in 1980. I am in no way accusing them of anything wrong.

  21. Here's the photo Dan. Thanks for posting it!
  22. Oh Brian, you know I want whatever you find on '75s. Please, please please!!! I would really appreciate whatever you can pass my way. Thanks!!! Thank you also John for the kind words on my little 'hawk. While my GSX's usually get the lion's share of the attention, I really enjoy people's reaction to a totally stock Skyhawk. And if you think mine is nice, you should see Brian's!! I've judged his before, in fact several times before, and have yet to deduct a point on the 400 point judging form (the Buick Performance Group uses the BCA judging forms...why reinvent the wheel?). His is that nice. And it's unrestored! BTW, my mom and dad brought me home from the hospital in a 1956 56R. It was my mom's car...an Oreo cookie. Black/White/Black with a Red interior. Quite the looker, even back then.
  23. I'm sorry to hear some of you had problems with your Skyhawk's, but I never really did, so no "sympathies" are necessary. Perhaps mine was better maintained with proper care on my part, but I digress. I've owned 2, my first 1975 bought new in July 1975 from Bob Daniels Buick in Columbus, OH. I was 17 at the time and it was somewhat of an early graduation present. I absolutely beat on that car, as any pubescent 17 year old male would. Burnouts everyday in front of my girlfriends home (it was a 4 speed), high-speed runs to Cincinnati (for pizza of all things), red-line shifts at every opportunity, you name it, I did it. The only real issue I had were clutch(s). Imagine that. I did 3 of those. I kept that car 6 years and over 120,000 miles. I did do an engine rebuild at around 100,000 miles (missed a shift and spun a bearing). It never failed to start (even with that spun bearing). I only replaced brake pads twice. Rust is what finally got her as it did many cars built before double-sided galvanized steel and e-coat primers, especially midwest snow belt cars. Salt was spread liberally back then. My second Skyhawk, the one pictured above, is also a 1975 model built early in the production cycle for 75 models. It is also a 4 speed and is the correct code 75 Apple Red color of my first. It took me many years of searching for the right car, to bring back memories of my first. It was Ziebarted when new and I am sure this was a major factor in it's preservation along with the first two owners proper care. Oh, never had any issued with the wheelcovers, even on my first one. I was very careful not to "curb" the wheels although... Here's a photo of the engine compartment of the car pictured above. I even tried to duplicate the overspray on the exhaust manifolds I found while scrubbing it down. And another...
