  1. I'm thinking if you have to put a check list together you may not know what you are getting into. 95% of the restoration projects you can buy will not be worth the money you put into the restoration. That does not include the cost of acquisition either.
  2. Have never been to this show although I understand it is a very nice one. A little surprised about the trailer parking situation as that is usually the number one issue with every show like this.
  3. I don't think he was getting any flak in the other thread. Most people including me think the car is pretty neat. The problem with this thread the assertion not that his car was based on an iconic design, but that the iconic design was based on his car. Seems highly implausible, hence the flak. My feeling is late 30s to late 40s hot rod, special or movie prop. I have no facts to base that on other than opinion from looking at the pictures and I look forward to being proven wrong. There is absolutely nothing bad if that is what it is. I would love to see it restored in polished aluminum. I think it would be a show stopper. But I in no way believe it could be related to the Silver Arrow.
  4. Ed Minnie needs to chime in. I believe there was a big 12 and a "small" 12. I think the big one put out more than 130hp stock. I would agree with the general consensus that any relation between this car and the Silver Arrow is tenuous at best. I might believe this car took styling cues from the Silver Arrow. The reverse is implausible.
  5. I was thinking in the range you came up with so I was a little surprised when Manny told me. I will give him credit, he had a whole justification that seemed plausible. When you have a one-off it only takes one guy.
  6. The webers look cool. How does it run? Any internal mods?
  7. The Hupps are rare so there is not a lot of data on exactly what the market is. I know of a couple of unrestored victorias that sold in the last few years for under 15k. The 3 window which is restored sold twice in the last few years for about the same money. If that 32 cabriolet you are talking about was a cycle fender car then it might be worth 100k now if restored nicely. I would say the sedan would probably sell for 25 - 30k. Open quarter sedans are the toughest sell. These cars are not like others where there are numerous public auction numbers that set the values pretty clearly.
  8. There is a guy on eBay selling the adapter which will work with either block for a S10 5 speed conversion. That would be cooler than the auto.
  9. Nice car. Considering one of the 3 window coupes brought 75k last year his price is a little high. While I'm nit picking Duesenberg chassis alone were 10k so his 4500 number is off too.
  10. The original asking price was 850k.
  11. Maybe I'm confused but I think he is selling the entire car.
  12. A private treaty is fancy talk for "on consignment".
  13. Here are a few more pictures. Complete auction link is here. They are describing it as a "Combination Roadster". I would go with the Combination Coupe designation although I don't know if the mounting anchors are present for the hard top. It has the 4 + 1 transmission and Manny says it goes down the highway great. I love the 320 cars as they are all very attractive and the interiors are top notch. Comparable to any full Classic of the prewar area. In the U.S these cars were not cheap and you could get a V16 Caddy for comparable money. Obviously the only drawback is the flathead 6 engine which keeps these cars downstream from the blown 8 cylinder cars. If you want to hear it run John Lyons posted this .
  14. The Dragone Brothers are having their auction next weekend and were kind enough to send me a catalog. Here is the 320 long wheelbase with the "N" style body. Only known example and probably a one off. It is not going through the auction but listed as a "private treaty" sale.
  15. Love it. I assume you are in Europe? Post some pictures of the restoration as you go along.
  16. The nice older restoration in blue earlier in this thread sold for around 60k. There was an older restoration in the club newsletter last year for 45k.
  17. I would say they are certainly more rare than the Cab A. Could you post some pictures of yours? I have never driven a 170 but a friend had one and loved it as as a drivable prewar car.
  18. Hi Jan, sorry, no idea on where that museum might be.
  19. I believe this is your car up for sale on Hemmings. 1931 Reo Royale Victoria Coupe for sale | Hemmings Motor News
  20. My comment is that for 20k and a little bit of wax, oil and lube somebody should be going to the next CCCA show in their area.
  21. My 49 Plymouth had basically the same engine and transmission and was OK around 50/55. You may want to consider overdrive if you need to maintain 55 or higher.
  22. I can add nothing other than the second scenario is much more plausible than the first. Preston Tucker has been researched left and right and he was a promoter. Anything he touched got publicity so I doubt it would be a secret if his hands were on it.
  23. There is a picture of S/N 408370 as found in Russia in the second Melin volume. Looks to be mostly there but in very rough shape. This link was passed along to me and it has many prewar MB & Horch cars. Мы в ответе за тех, кому поручили. - Самый большой Музей Техники в Европе! РаÑположен в МоÑкве.
  24. What a cool car. Maybe Ed can chime in with production numbers and comment on the overheating issue.
