  1. European. I'm going to guess MB small HP, but not sure of the exact model.
  2. What a cool car. I would think if it was in North America you would sell it in a second.
  3. Yeah. I bought an extra for my dads birthday.
  4. My copy came in yesterday. Have not read the whole book but well worth the money for any Stutz guy or any prewar car guy in general.
  5. Stutz is much more rare but more importantly has a performance aura. The SOHC engine is exotic relative to all the flatheads.
  6. Any crack can be fixed by a good stitch welder. The problem is finding a guy that knows how to do that is not easy.
  7. The lines are improved by the slanted windshield which I believe is not factory. Definitely a great car but I would lose the white.
  8. Jason, on the 38 dash what is the gauge that goes in the middle?
  9. Welcome. Desoto is a cool but sometimes overlooked brand. The mechanics are rock solid and parts are readily available for the most part. Post some pictures.
  10. I agree with all the comments above. As someone restoring something similar but period I will say that 100k would not build that.
  11. Kevin, that is cool. You should start your own thread and post more pictures of your car.
  12. Can't help but that is cool. You seem to be cornering the market on Kissel.
  13. Go here and search. Any question you might have would be answered. There was one on Ebay last week complete for 1100. The going rate seems to be 800 to 1500. Homepage
  14. In 1937 Autocar (an independent British magazine) tested a factory stock 540k over the measured mile at 104 mph. Note the use of the word "STOCK". You are citing speed tests of heavily modified cars. You will not be able to cite similar performance numbers for a BONE STOCK American prewar car because they do not exist. Yes, a stock Duesenberg could better that. A V16 Marmon could match it. And a bunch of others if you start hot rodding them but that was not my point. Also, as you may recall, the Mercedes had a sizable lead on the Duesenberg after the first lap at Muroc before the fuel system lost pressure. You can argue that was from overuse of the Supercharger but you cannot deny these were fast cars.
  15. I've been watching this one. The roof has the wood insert. Did Dodge have the same or as you have alluded to was fully steel? This looks more solid then the one in the op.
  16. I'm a good guesser . In 1972 my dad had the choice between a complete running alloy 120 for 1200 dollars and a complete non running 140MC for 400 dollars. He usually didn't but he fumbled the ball on that one. We still have the MC.
  17. I liked that car when it was for sale on Long Island. Was that an aluminum 120 you used part of the proceeds from to buy this car? The three big differences I see between stocks and cars are: 1. I know a lot more about cars than stocks so it is less likely I'll buy a bad car. 2. However stocks are more liquid. 3. Stocks also don't deteriorate if not cared for. That said, I like your point anyways.
  18. Somebody who is an expert could you explain to me how the Dodge/Plymouth Business coupe desirability hierarchy works? Are the 32 cars at the top with a gradual decline to 52? Do Dodges bring a slight premium over Plymouth because of the slightly longer stroke and a tad more HP? What year did they go all steel?
  19. I think it is a really cool car but I do not believe you could get paint (reasonably high quality) for 15k. Then you still have chrome, interior , mechanical.
  20. I have a feeling this car won't be "authentically" restored.
  21. I also want to add that my experience has been that many people "selling" their cars don't understand it is work. "Serious Inquires Only" are code words for "I'm a lazy seller".
  22. I agree with Martin. Adjusting your prices doesn't mean you get to sell your car. I would argue there is an across the board premium paid on all cars at an auction venue. The convenience of having them all in one spot is part of it. The competitive nature of people is another. The booze might also be a reason.
