  1. Victoria or Sedan? Did you take any pictures??
  2. I haven't been posting either so I shouldn't complain, but there has been very little to view unless you are into Buick. The tires turned into a complete fiasco. I ordered a single 700x18 Bedford Blackwall to see how it would look. The shop called me and told me I ordered the wrong tire. Come to find out that I have 17 inch wheels when the rest of the world is running 18 inch. One of my Royale buddies came up with a set of 6 wheels but I need snap rings. Actually scrounged 4 at Hershey but in the process have been communicating with Coker about their new snap rings. Also, Coker is re-manufacturing the outside rim. Wheels will arrive this week, one is going to Coker to see if their rings will work with my wheels. We will mount my single tire on one of the wheels to see how it looks, potentially use it to fabricate the side covers. I'm thinking chrome snap ring and painted wheels. Maybe a darker shade of the body color. Thoughts?
  3. Still in Florida? I'm leaving the gold alone. We haven't found any of the trim color anywhere (the fenders were red under the gold) so in the interests of not going completely bankrupt I'm going to stock with the moldings as is.
  4. Is it just me or the entire forum been slow this fall? Ed, Dave, Jason, West, etc, where are you guys??? Don't tell me facebook! This restoration project has been going on all fall. I started with a list of about 12 things I really wanted fixed which seemed to me to be about 2 or 3 weeks worth of work. As I'm sure many of you have experienced it is very hard to find a place to draw the line. Where I'm going now is a 90 point car or so. You can see the picture of the original paint which was described as "tomato" in a period article on the car. It is close enough to the current color (basically the same minus the metallic) that I'm not respraying the body, only the hoods and fenders. I'm not a huge two tone fan so the fenders will be body color.
  5. As a general rule, I think the value of a fabricated, or replica, or however you want to describe it is less than a bone stock example.
  6. Wow, good job on the sale. I was thinking at least 20k less. MB prices seem to be going up.
  7. Chuck, is this the same Mike that posted the pictures of the roadster project above? Hopefully he will keep us posted on his progress.
  8. Musclecars and automatics are not a good match. That said, if it is as nice as described it is not a bad deal.
  9. I think prototype is a tough word to define. It is not exactly the same as one off or coach built or custom or a dream car (styling exercise).
  10. Tom, the generator drives seem even more rare than the tachs! Did you find one?
  11. Thanks for the feedback. Did the wheels balance out ok? Do they feel good at speed? With the wire wheels, you send them your hubs (or entire wheel) and the rebuild the wheel with new spokes and their rim & snap ring.
  12. Nice. Post over in the Stutz forum. I like the painted wheels and blackwalls.
  13. Guys, thanks for the input. I have had Dayton rebuild wheels before and they have done a good job too. The critical issue I'm dealing with are the lock rings. These are unobtainable. I have scrounged a set together but I'm interested to see if Coker has come up with something better (although obviously more expensive). I talked to Don at Hershey and he is no longer making the lock rings as they are huge pain for a number of reasons. I can give Fred a call too.
  14. Does anyone have any experience or know of anyone that has had Coker rebuild their prewar wire wheels? The have new rims & lock rings and use your original hub to rebuild the wheel. http://www.cokertire.com/lock-ring-style-rims.html I would like to rebuild a set of 18 wires that fit on a Reo Royale.
  15. Henry, you need to watch this thread and post your words of wisdom.
  16. That is a pretty good looking car, especially for a K.
  17. Bob, I think all RR are CCCA Classics. Post a picture. This sounds like a cool car.
  18. The 3rd one seems to have sold. Hemi cars sit in their own world. Not fair to compare them to the almost identical non-hemi cars.
  19. 20 years ago in the company I was working for your username was assigned as first letter of first name and first 7 letters of last. But since I worked with my brother and we both had the same first letter they used first two letters of first name and then the first 6 of the last name.
  20. This thought passed through my head yesterday actually. Car restoration is like anything else in life. There are some things we can do on our own, like mow our lawn, that may be just as good or better than a professional. There are other things, like restoring a car that we may be able to do ok at with practice, but in theory would never approach the skill level of a really good professional. I guess it depends on the owner's skill level and what car he is working on. A high end car would only be wrecked by an amateur restoration. A cheaper car it doesn't matter and restoration may only make sense if the owner does most of his own work.
