  1. My friend Steve Pughs sent these photos to me. These are his comments: There were 4 Reo Royales on a farm in Fresno in 1970. There were two coupes and two sedans. They were eventually sold and I don't know where they ended up. I bought some Franklin parts some years ago and there was a letter in with the parts that talked about a Franklin ( the one the parts came from) and also mentioned that the Reos were for sale. There were a few snap shots of the Franklin and these two of one of the Reo Royal coupes. The back of one of the photos say "This is the worst one".
  2. I like them but not sure I would say best grill ever.
  3. Good advice. Fenders are out at strippers. When I get them mounted I'll put the wheel on. It is much darker but I think it clashes.
  4. So sorry to hear about your wife. That is a beautiful car.
  5. Nice work! Is the project staying on budget Craig?
  6. West, what do you think? This is the body color minus the metallic. Not sure it works.
  7. Every time you give someone a check you are sharing your account number.
  8. I think unfortunately many posters are migrating to Facebook. Not sure why. I refuse.
  9. Actually, the eBay one I'm thinking of is a 32 coupe roadster with the big engine.
  10. Folks, This is the transmission in my 31 Reo Royale. Reo offered a 4 speed option in 1931 for 50.00 and this is supposed to be it. But I don't know the manufacturer, it is not marked anywhere on the case. It is a rare option so the club guys have not been able to help me. The patent number seems to be 1143617 which is a 1915 transmission patent assigned to Case & Martin. Any ideas as to the manufacturer? Warner? http://pdfpiw.uspto.gov/.piw?docid=01143617&SectionNum=1&IDKey=4C596FC7B864&HomeUrl=http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1%2526Sect2=HITOFF%2526d=PALL%2526p=1%2526u=%25252Fnetahtml%25252FPTO%25252Fsrchnum.htm%2526r=1%2526f=G%2526l=50%2526s1=1143617.PN.%2526OS=PN/1143617%2526RS=PN/1143617 thanks! A.J.
  11. I like the dropheads a lot because of the wood veneer dash. Apples to Apples the roadster will bring more however. A important question is if either is a MC with the high compression head, that would tilt the value equation to that car.
  12. Fortunately he did still have some of the parts and now I have them! Brakes are almost done: 1. Guts of the Master cylinder are now NOS 2. New brake lines 3. New brake hoses 4. Rebuilt wheel cylinders. 5. New shoes 6. Drums turned.
  13. I think I mentioned this somewhere else but there were 2 Reo Royales in Bill's Junk Yard down in RI back in the 50s,60s & 70s. Any time we were there my dad would pull some other part off of it and tell me it was Model J Duesenberg. I'd ask him what the car was and he' tell me it was some kind of Reo.
  14. The engine is bullet proof, that is true. I think some of the later cars, notably the V12 gave the marque a bad name. My mom drove that car as an every day driver in the summer for 20 years. Never broke down once or failed to start. You did need to watch the temp gauge on hot days. Big engine in a very small space.
  15. Do you have the overdrive? My mom's has the high compression head and overdrive. That really makes the car move. I don't know that I ever went more than 80mph but at that speed in overdrive the motor is basically idling. It has been a while since I last drove it but my impression was that is felt very solid and heavy for such a little car. My dad just had the car resprayed and reupholster in the last couple of years in the blue that he restored it in back in 73. I was pushing him to get the heritage certificate which he finally did. Car came back as originally black with red interior - I was bummed he didn't do it earlier.
  16. That must have been a great car to have in college! My dad bought my mom a 140MC in 1971 for 400.00 as a mother's day present. Everybody laughed cause it was a bit of a POS. He restored that entire car for 3k. Along the way he bought a 58 150 FHC that was mostly complete. I started saving money in 8th grade to restore that to use in HS. That dream went nowhere and I settled on a GTO. Part of the allure of a barn find is that idea that a car has not been messed with for 30 or 40 years or more. Condition may be worse, but completeness and originality should be better - in theory.
  17. Unfortunately, part of the barn find formula may be that the owner needs to pass so that someone else can find it. I don't think you can find your own car. Otherwise the jag would be a great find. XK140?
  18. That is the switch mechanism for the lights that goes at the bottom of the steering column. The contacts were all junk so no lights before.
  19. FB is a different format than a forum like this one. It is user centric instead of topic centric. I just don't think it is a good way to talk about cars. Here are some more pictures.
  20. I don't suppose you have any more pictures of the very cool boat in the background? good luck with the Jag sale, nice car.
  21. That was my initial inclination. I thought about respraying the whole car in the correct color but I have to draw a line somewhere.
  22. I could go black wheels but not sure how that would work with the red. May need to spray a couple out to see how it looks.
