  1. The issue with the Mayfair is trying to tell a RHD car in the U.S. American buyers will discount it and the euro exchange was not helping. Also the 1980s Red does not help these days. Otherwise I thought an attractive car that probably should pull the 1+ estimate if it was sold over in England. The Cab A that RM is selling will probably do very well. I would expect numbers in the 2.5 plus range or more.
  2. I think there are a bunch of dealers who post cars and parts on here. I can think of 3 or 4 off the top of my head. Usually some pretty neat cars.
  3. Unless it is a nation treasure, a certain weymann bodied Cord L29 hiding in the middle east comes to mind, I'm not going to get too upset over an Edsel and a V12 Caddy going to China.
  4. There is probably 1 additional OHC engine out there for every known car... maybe a slight exaggeration but not much.
  5. Maybe not good, but I like the whine! The 540k Mercedes has a tremendous siren like sound when the blower is going and it is music.
  6. Here is another Auburn on the road. The supercharger whine is cool.
  7. Here is another video. Stock 1935 Auburn Speedster, straight 8, supercharged, 2 speed rear is in high, RPMs are at 2k and speed is around 60mph. You can see the tech just to the left of the Speedo. I have been up on the highway a few times in a 35-36 Auburn and the dual ratio rear end makes a big difference. The 810/812 Cord is another good prewar highway car with the 4th gear. I understand E.L. really pushed for the 4th gear because of the experience with the L29 but the case was a bit small resulting in slightly undersized gears and potential transmission issues.
  8. Ed is correct that they are easier to find. Everybody kept the engine when the car was junked. Plan on sending 25-30k doing a rebuild however.
  9. I was thinking about your basic 65 mph 6 lane highway. I haven't seen a non hot rod prewar car I years.
  10. I'm wondering how many of us still venture out on the highway with a prewar car? I've never done it with anything less than a big straight 8 and tend to do it less and less. Here is a video from last weekend showing a 32 Packard 8 cruising down the highway. This car has a high speed rear so it has long legs but there was plenty left in it. The cars that seems to be ok either had factory overdrive, a two speed rear (Auburns), a high 4th gear (Cord, Mercedes) or a new high speed rear. I'm assuming that nobody does it with the smaller displacement cars?
  11. I think the best bet is a local retired mechanic. A restoration shop will charge you x amount of dollars to do the work, and 2 times x dollars if you want to help.
  12. You are correct. Mine was a standard 8.
  13. Are you talking about the Mayfair? Generally the English bodies don't do as well as the catalog bodies. I think it is not bad looking but the right hand drive is never popular with our German (or American) friends.
  14. If it was magnufluxed and checked out it would be worth a bit more. I got $1,000 for a complete 31 engine a few years ago. They are not really made of gold.
  15. No rust then around 8-10k if complete.
  16. By Blackhawk I assume you mean it has the flathead 8 and not the OHC 8?
  17. The seems short for that car which I would have guessed was 130 or more.
  18. Does the "125" in the designation refer to horsepower? I assume the wheelbase is in the 130s somewhere. It is possible that there was a bored and stroked version of your engine that put out 145 HP but we need a Marmon expert to chime in.
