  1. Although I agree with NTX, Mimi is a FACTORY modified car. I wonder if that means it has to be judged in the modified class Paul might not like hearing that
  2. I haven't called Ken, yet. He'd probably be my best bet right now, anyway. Thanks for the suggestion!
  3. Didn't get too far today, since I broke two sockets and managed to destroy the passenger side exhaust manifold. But I got the intake, valve covers, and the drivers side exh manifold off. I had to make a trip to Sears for a new impact wrench and some new sockets...
  4. The passenger side exh manifold of this car just fell apart in my hand about a half hour ago. The forward-most ear broke off as I was wrestling with that bolt. I was unsuccessful in the bolt removal, too. If anyone has the pass side OR a pair of manifolds, please let me know. I need them asap. Thanks!!
  5. John, thamkls for the link, but this is for the 60 Electra, not my Centurion. The Centurion is taking a break in the driveway for a little bit until I can get this 60 out of the garage.
  6. Thanks for posting this, Keith. It was like a revelation at the meeting last week when someone came up with the idea of donating in the club's name. I can't say that I was the one, though The decision was unanimous.
  7. Thanks for the clarification Bill! I'll make them Semi-gloss.
  8. Weekend progress: Only managed to break one bolt getting the t-stat housing off. But I was able to wrench on the stud and unscrew it once i soaked it with PB Blaster. Oh the destruction!!!! Oh the beauty Generator, fan guard, and air cleaner top came out nice..
  9. Asked this on V8Buick, but was thinking I'd get a more experienced response here - 1. What is the correct gloss of black for the pulleys on the Nailhead? And if I have already painted them gloss black, would I get points off for over-restoration? 2. Fuel filter of this thing - the glass deal in front of the air cleaner....what color is the metal housing supposed to be? The last guy who had this car went crazy with the paint brush and painted it the color of the engine. Is this correct?? 3. Before I pluck all the wires off the plugs, what layout are the cylinder numbers in? Drivers side bank = 2 4 6 8?? Other way around? Thanks! EDIT: This is on a 60 Electra
  10. I'm going to use this thread to document my progress on a friend's 60 Electra 225 that I'm freshening up for next year's national event. I started out with a mess in the trunk when I got the car. I pulled out all the dead trunk material and saved the cardboard trim pieces to reinstall after the new material gets laid in over the Winter. This is where I am right now - Trunk floor is painted along with the jack parts and the spare tire. Next in line is the underside of the trunk lid, which is scratched up and a little rusty in spots. Jack bits: Trunk floor covered with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator (I still have the stuff stuck to my fingers)
  11. You need to make sure you have spark and fuel. What did you remove/change between removing it and reinstalling the engine in the two cars?
  12. The 60 is a friend's car. I am doing the finish resto work on it. It's a 225 convertible It should be good to go for Rochester!
  13. Tom, I'm soaking it every few hours with PB blaster...hopefully by tomorrow evening I will be able to break it loose. As for the seized distributor, I think this whole thing will have to wait until I get into the eng. compartment project. I'm waiting on paint for the trunk, so I'm stuck doing nothing for now.
  14. Yeah, I was counting on that I just found out that the distributor is seized in place, too. So, since I am pulling the whole engine compartment apart, I'll just leave all this stuff for when it comes time to give it a crack. At first, I suspected the choke was the problem, but it appears to work properly. The carb "supposedly" was recently rebuilt. You know how that goes, though.
  15. I've found that I cannot move the heat riser by using the counterweight at all. It appears as if it's frozen in place. How do I tell if it's stuck open or stuck closed? This might be one of the causes for a hesitation I am getting just off idle. A bit frustrating, too. And I found out that a regular 9/16 open end wrench will not budge the distributor bolt. I have to buy another tool! They've got the timing set at 20 degrees initial...I'm assuming to get rid of the hesitation...which did not work.
  16. I just was browsing the CARS catalog, and I saw this: Sound Deadening Material Waffle Pattern, Dark Brown, more paper-type SD-301......27" x 36" $14.75 ea. Is this what I am looking for? I'm still stumped on how this gets installed. Do I need to remove the lip of the lid?
  17. Try replacing the brake switch. It's located on the master cylinder.
  18. I'm doing some R&R work on a friend's 60 convertible and I will be doing the trunk work on it. It needs the underside of the lid painted and the cardboard-like stuff replaced. This is the pliable material inbetween the lid skin and the underside of the lid. First of all, where do I get this stuff? Second, how the heck do I get it out/in?? There will be many more questions and a picture gallery of the progress as I complete the projects.
  19. I see my posse' has gotten to you I sent a reply to your message a few minutes ago. Welcome to the forums!
