  1. I think I have a lead on one locally. I'll report back.
  2. I vote to keep the portholes! When people see them, they KNOW the car is a Buick. (unless they stuck some stupid stick-on auto zone portholes on a Chevy)
  3. Wow! Sometimes you just never know until you try it. I did the same thing with the Roadmaster. Just got in the car and drove it. Fortunately, I had most of the engine related bugs worked out before I drove 800 miles
  4. I see this one for a 53 at Bob's...is it the same as 58? Battery Hold Down 1950-53 BHD-503
  5. I didn't realize that was you taking the video when I drove by in the parking lot with the huge grin I would love to see it! Thanks guys, for the congrats...now if I could get the axle seal delivered by Monday, I'll be ok. I may hold off on the ball joints for this trip. Too much going on before I leave, not sure I can fit it in.
  6. Are you referring to this stuff? Rust-Oleum Professional 1-Gal. Flat Rusty High-Performance Metal Primer-182769 at The Home Depot Not necessarily the color, but the specific type of paint? I have found this stuff at my local Home Depot in several colors. The local farm/tractor store has it, too.
  7. I don't see these for sale new...wondering where I can obtain one. It was one of the only things I got docked points in the engine compartment for...
  8. Pinch the vacuum line closed that is going to the brake booster and see if there is a change.
  9. Make sure it is really warmed up well before adjusting.
  10. Have you made any adjustments to the idle mixture screws? I had this exact problem on the way home from South Bend on Sunday, and I backed out the two idle adjustment screws a full turn and it really woke it up.
  11. Congratulations on your award this weekend! It was well-deserved. And it was great meeting you and your wife, and taking the time to show us all your pride and joy. I hope to see it at future BCA events! All, I had the privilege to judge this gorgeous SLT (Special Lowered Top) B-57 this weekend at the BCA national meet. There are so many subtle changes on the car, that without proper explanation from Jim, you would never know it was modified. Obviously, the top has been cut. BUT as you go through the car, the amount of thought and ingenuity that it took to put it together was incredible. Great job!
  12. What a weekend! As several of you know, Laurel received a Silver award yesterday. I'm very pleased with that. I was hoping for a Silver, but wasn't expecting it. I know I have lots of work to do before I have it judged again. I won't be in Portland, but plan to have it even more ready for Springfield in 2015. I am driving it to the BPG national meet in Columbus OH in a week and a half...and I have to fix the rear axle seal and replace the lower ball joints before then. I'm not sure I'll be able to get anything else done before then...just too much going on, and not enough free time between now and then. Thanks to everyone who came to visit me/Laurel! I met lots of new folks, and put familiar names to faces...thanks to this forum. I am still blown away by how many B-58's were there. I didn't get to meet Lance with his Limited, but I studied the car a bit...and the Archival ELITE award was well-deserved!
  13. There were (at one point) EIGHT 58's here this weekend. Me - Roadmaster 4 dr Lancemb - Limited 4 dr Frank Lyle - Roadmaster convertible Brian Clark - Super Coupe A Limited 4 dr Two Special 4 door rivs Tom? Super coupe (blue)
  14. The sensor itself has a lip on it that keeps it from going too far into the hole in the head...the nut then will "bottom out" on top of the lip and pinch it, sealing the hole.
  15. It was an axle seal that is leaking. I'll drive it home and replace it then.
  16. It was leaking enough to make a mess under the car, but I still had brakes enough to be safe. I sure was sweating those last 50 miles...(for more than one reason)
  17. The left rear brake cylinder died on me today. Also, the left exhaust started blowing smoke...looked pretty bad. Thanks to Gene Reynolds, I fixed that problem by plugging the vacuum pump from the wiper motor. Tomorrow is the brake cylinder repair.
  18. Brian, was it the grille that was rattling on the top of the bumper? I fixed 2 rattles there today.
  19. Tools loaded - check Towels loaded - check Tunes loaded - check Exhaust rattles "fixed" - check (Steel wool makes a great padding for spots where mufflers and exhaust pipes hit the chassis! ) Fluids topped off - check Tire pressures set - check Fuel - check Exterior glass RainX'ed - check License car - check (I ordered personalized historic plates with "LAUREL" on them...but I won't see them until September.) I guess I'm as ready as I can get. Just need to pack clothes and deodorant. Who really needs that, anyway?
  20. I have been quoted $265 each to reline my Buick drums.
