1. Classic - I'll try and remember to look and see what I have on my DB. Also I sent you a private e-mail the other day, did you receive it? Jim
2. I agree, the two on the trailer are 1928's, probably Fast Fours. The 28's had a much more rounded body style then the earlier models.
3. Would there really be a need to install the flywheel in a certain position relative to TDC? Just curious since I didn't mark the flywheel when I dissassembled my engine..... Jim
4. Thanks, I'll check out both sources. I don't think I'll need the heli-coil, but thanks for the offer as well. Jim
5. No, I haven't talked to Dave Johnson. Would you happen to have a number or address? The stud is 3.5" long with 7/16-20 threads. The threads extend approximately 1" in from one end and 3/4" in from the other end.
6. Does anyone have a good source for cylinder head studs for a Fast Four? Preferably one that won't cost me darn near $100.00 to redo the engine.... Thanks, Jim
7. You might also want to post your questions on the WPC forum. They deal more with Plymouths and Chryslers. Good luck with your project.
8. Dennis, Here is a picture of the engine compartment. This came from a 26 sedan that's currently listed on e-bay. This appears to be the fast four engine (looks the same as mine). Hope this helps. Jim
9. Dennis, The exhaust and intake manifolds are two seperate manifolds that bolt together. If you would like I can e-mail a picture that shows how the two fit together. Good Luck, Jim
10. They have quite a few different types of felt, is one type better then another?
11. Thanks Dave, I think the distributor thing through me off, I thought you meant it came out of the side of the block..... It is interesting how the FastFours do differ. My two are several months apart in build dates, but there are still a differences in the way the engines are put together. You don't happen to have a gas cap by chance? 12. DodgerDave, Are you sure you have the remains of a Fast Four? Both my Fast Four's have the distributor coming straight up out of the head. Also, the picture of the tail light bracket and rear bumper don't quite jive with my FF's either. Just curious... Jim
13. Thanks Rodger, I have used them in the past and will try them again. Jim
14. A while back in the DBCN there was a article about where to get wool felt for sealing various areas on the DB engine. I believe the company listed was McMaster-Carr. Does anyone have know which part number(s) were recommended. There are quite a few types of felt in their catalog. Also, could a old style "rope" seal be used for the rear crankshaft seal? Thanks ---
15. Does anyone know if Dodge Brothers had their own part numbers molded into the tires used on thier cars? I have a spare (Lee brand) on my Fast Four and there is a part number that looks real similar to p/n's that are used on other DB parts. Just curious.....
16. Two questions - 1) Does anyone know the maximum amount of clearance there should be between the connecting rods and the wrist pins on a Fast Four engine? 2) I am getting ready to install new rings and am unsure which rings go where. I am assuming the bottom ring is the oil ring, the next one up is the "oil scraper" and then the next two are the compression rings. Yes/No? Thanks in advance for any help/advice - Jim
17. I looked a little closer at my engine and some places it appears that the color is quite close to the green used on Model A engines and in other places it looks a lot lighter. While I'm on the subject, does anyone know about the bellhousing and the transmission? Thanks, Jim
18. Does anyone know if John Deere Green engine paint is fairly close to the original engine color? The paint I bought is a light green in color[color:"#00f0aa"] like this ******
19. I didn't get a chance to use the tire chains this winter, we just didn't have enough snow. Of course the fact that I had the oil pan off all winter didn't help either! I hope to have the car on the road (with rebuilt engine) by the middle of June.
20. Just a quick question. I recently removed the oil pan from my 1928 DB Fast Four and found that it was different from the pan that I have on a second Fast Four that I own. According to the S/N's on the cars one was built in July of 1927 and the other in August of 1927. Is this change "common knowledge" or did I just get lucky? Are there any other differences in engines that people know about? Thanks, Jim
21. Does anyone know where I might find oversized wrist pins for a DB Fast Four engine. Could modern pins be used and then drilled so that the wrist pin "locking bolt" would fit?
Thanks for the help,
Jim
22. Lee,
I'm the new owner of Bryan's Fast Four if there is anything I can help you with let me know. I just recently put new brakes on the car and had lots of "fun" pulling off the wheels. It takes a special puller that I finally had to make myself!
Jim
janselmo_1962@yahoo.com
23. If these are Dodge fenders I don't believe they would be earlier then 1930. Pre-1930 Dodge fenders have a very pronounced raised portion that is in the middle of the fender. Good luck on the identification.
