  1. Hi all, I have a restored 72 gs350 convertible (clone). I'm tring to keep it as stock as possible while still having fun. I think its a numbers matching car. I replaced the rear to a 3.41 posi and it give me the performace I want, but screams on the highway. Any recommendations for a 4 speed trans or overdrive without carving up the car? Where can I get one? About how much would it be for the part? Thanks! Joe joe@ismllc.com
  2. Wow, that was a great response. Thank You!!! Yes I do have someone who actually replaced the stock 2.56 gears last year. Unfortunatly, he has a 72 Olds 442 which makes him very busy in our town since his knows A bodies very well. He said just get the parts and he'll take care of it. He thinks the 3.08 won't be enough for this car. I settled on 3.42 only because I thought anything higher would kill the old engine on the way to the beach. I'm not looking for a racer, but instead a solid driver that doesn't feel like its starting in 2nd gear. I can talk to him about these ideas. What do you think is the best option? I live close CARS, Inc. (OldBuickParts.com) and they may have something useful. I would think that a 3.91 with a 350 would be screaming on the highway without an O/D. Thanks again for the help! Joe
  3. Does anyone have a set of upper and lower window bushings for a 72 Skylark Convert? I need both side/front. Thx Joe
  4. Hi All, I'd like to change my stock 2.56 gears in my 72 Skylark Convert to 3.42 gears. Does anyone know the part numbers and a good place to order them? I also need the Speedo Gears to match. Thanks Joe
  5. Hello all, I'm in the final stages of creating a 72 GS350 Clone, but the stock engine seems like a toyota compared to my new Yukon. I want to keep it stock, but I need more punch. I already upgraded to the 4 brl carb. Short of a complete overhaul, what would help the most? Change the 2.56 rear (which was recently rebuilt), to a 3.08 (which I think was stock on the GS)? Headers? Duel exhaust? Any other options? What are the pro's and con's of these options? Is it worth the change for a marginal power increase? Help my get out of the sloooow lane, while maintaining a numbers matching classic. Thanks Joe
  6. Does anyone know the correct location of the trunk light on a 72 GS? Was there a Hood light available too? If so, is it pre-wired? Thanks Joe
  7. Hello all, I just put on the orginal air cleaner for my 72 and realized that my radiator hose is incorrect. The original hose should be attached to the fan housing and then turn directly toward the engine instead of cutting across at an angle. Is this part available through a local parts store, or do I need to request it on the Buy/Sell page? Thanks! Joe
  8. I'm looking for a RH Chrome mirror for a 72 Skylark or GS convertible. I purchased one, but the angle is not correct and I'm not sure what Buick it was for. Maybe a full size? Please let me know Thx Joe
  9. Hi, I recently converted my 72 Skylark Convertible to a GS350 clone. Does anyone have a spare Ram Air cleaner unit? Thanks Joe
  10. Wanted: 72 GS front bumper rubber surround. Any ideas? Thx Joe surfkurf@aol.com
  11. My 72 GS Convertible is almost ready for paint, BUT.... I have the PPG paint chart for 1972 Skylark - LeSabre - Rivs, etc... and it lists Fire Red as code 75 2189. I assume Fire Red is the color since it is the only thing close on the chart. My body guy says his computer lists this code for a 70 or 71 Skylark, not a 72? Help!!! Which is it? Also, I like a deep red color that I have on a 72 Chevelle SS diecast model. The orginal paint on my 72 GS looks Orange to me especially at night under parking lot lights. The painter says that the old red paint tends to look more orange as it ages and the new Base Coat / Clear Coat should have a deeper color. Is this true? Any advice? Will the value be better if I keep it original? As Always, Thanks for the help! I can't wait. :-) Joe surfkurf@aol.com
  12. Anyone have a 72 GS hood in the NJ area for sale? Getting the Sky painted soon and fell in love with the GS look. Joe
  13. Hello all, Not a question about my Buick this time, but I know you guys can help. Grandma is sick and her 79 Malibu has been in the Garage for over 2 years without use. The car has only 30,000 miles on it and is mint condition so I don't want to just crank it over without checking first. What about fuel? What about Oil? Should I do anything special besides replace the battery? When I get it back on the road, how can I find out how much it is worth so we can use the money to help her? Thanks for the help as always! Joe
  14. Excellent! Thanks for the Info. Both locations are local to me so I'll give it a shot.<BR>Thanks again.<BR>Joe
  15. Hello all,<P>Any recommendations for a Body shop in Central Jersey that is willing to work on the old stuff without giving up my first born? The car is a driver, but I want a quality job. Also, any clue on how much the metal work will set me back? I have someone to do the painting.<P>I have new rear 1/4's and a right fender patch ready to go. The car also some other minor rust and dings but not too bad. <P>Where do I start???<BR>Thanks!<BR>Joe
  16. Good Point. Measure twice, drill once. I heard there was more issues with the sport mirror angles. Hopefully, it won't be a problem.
  17. Cool... Anyone have a 74? How and where do you mount the remote?<P>I'll do some Pic searches and see what I can find.<BR>Thanks!<BR>Joe
  18. Thanks for the Info. Just wondering... I have the Chrome mirrors, not the Bullet type sport mirrors. Did they possibly make a Chrome RH remote mirror? <P>I'm thinking I can mount the remote in the panel under the Convertible switch. This way I'm not doing too much damage. Any ideas on how to mount the controls? The original bezel that usually goes on the door is angled. I would need a straight one.<BR>Thanks again everyone!<BR>Joe
  19. I took a closer look at the LH remote mirror and the cable is long enought reach the steering wheel and the adjuster knob is straight instead of angled. So, I'm assuming that the remote should be mounted by the driver. I hope someone has this setup out there to confirm.....<BR>Thanks!
  20. Thanks for the reply! :-)<BR>You think that was late, I was working on those crazy mirrors until 4 am. Feeling it today.<P>That would really be great. I can't find any Pic on where and how to mount the Bezel inside. Does it screw into the door panel and metal of the door, or just the door panel. Where do you route the cable so it doesn't interfer with the window when rolling it down. On the RH side, why is the cable longer? Does it mount to the dash somewhere instead? <P>Plenty of unanswered questions. Anything you find would be greatly appreciated.<BR>Thanks!<BR>Joe
  21. Nobody has a Sky with Remote mirrors? Ouch...
  22. Hello All,<BR>I bought dual remote mirrors to replace the driver only manual mirror on my 72 Sky. Any advice on the placement and mounting of the remote on the door panel? <P>Also, it looks like the remote cable on the RH mirror is much longer. Should this be mounted on the dash somewhere instead? Any advice on drilling the hole on the outside for the new RH mirror?<P>Thanks!<BR>Joe<BR>
  23. Looking for the Oil Sending unit for a 72 GS 350 with gauges. <BR>Part number 6462849<P>Anyone?<BR>Thx<BR>Joe
  24. Good Point. All that "mud" flows down stream and I actually had to clean the top again after I lowered it and raised it again. The dirt gets under the molding and is hard to get to. Catch it before it flows down which ever method you use.
  25. I used the top cleaner directly from GM with a stiff brush. Very mild, but very effective. Makes you say WOW when you see the dirt flow off.
