I went into the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan the other day and loved browsing their collection of Automobile Quarterly issues. I bought one for $15 to read on my flight back to San Francisco.

I remember buying Vol. One # 1 at the Barrett Book Shop in Stamford Ct. it was a magical moment, some time around 1961. Somehow it wound up in a box in the basement with other early issues and is now water damaged, I need to treat myself to replacements. Bob

Does anybody know the specifics of this car?  Is it an Amilcar with a ford engine?  I have a video of it taking off but want to describe it correctly.

It is  the ARCA Ford Amilcar one of my favorites from the sports car racing club of the 1930's. Someone will confirm that there were two brothers that got the car for cleaning out the garage it was stored in. Is that common up in Massachusetts?

That is pretty cool.  The restoration is over the top perfect so they were displaying the car not running it up the hill.  I think we had this conversation in the Locomobile thread, as I posted this picture of what looks like the same car taken in the late 40s in New England.   I don't know that everyone is convinced they are the same car.

I prefer the car in black & white photos.

That's the exact reason I've never warmed up to the 2010-later Camaro. I didn't much like the car to begin with, then when GM tied its introduction to that movie and turned it into a robot toy movie character, that was it for me.

I think the whole EV market is a house of cards based on misinformation from the administration and the media on what the true costs are.  As people find out that what they are being told is not true, the EV market will falter.  The sooner the better!

Selling America on something they don't want has never gone well.

George Holman’s Stutz seems like  the fastest car here. I think sounds like it has a hemi in it. I believe it is running a DV32.

Maybe the most historic car there, should get fastest time of the day. Bob 🙂

The largest  majority of people entering the hobby have always been those who are somewhere in the area of 45 to 60 years of age. That is when most people have reached the point that they have the disposable income for a hobby car, and are more likely to have garage space or the ability to afford to pay for garage space. It does not surprise me that the Gen X group of hobbyists would now be larger than Baby Boomers and Pre-Boomers portion of the hobby. None of us is going to live forever, but despite all of the gloom and doom predictions, it looks like the younger generations are still interested in the antique car hobby. The hobby will still be alive and well after most of us aren't.

Discovering the Antique Car hobby at 10 years of age in 1961 may have been my problem. If I had amassed the funds most 40-50 years old do today I'd have started out with better cars. Then again I'd have missed all the people I've met over the past 62 years, I'm still happy with how things are going. Bob

Sorry, ma'am, we can't respond to your home to get your husband who has had a heart attack until we build up steam in the ambulance.  We'll be on our way in 45 minutes or so....

At the same time steam powered pumpers where still in use by the fire departments, and you had to hitch up 2 to 3 horse teams to pull the things, rarely was a home chimney lost.

Knowing nothing about citroens in general and sm,s in particular i,d advise the op,er to watch the movie The money pit.

If he is still in the mood for some punishment i reccomend a 50+ foot wood hull sail boat.

As an aside, the French build some fine airplanes.....bob

I had some hands on experience with the restoration of the Bugatti airplane all wood construction, it never flew. Both engines now power  race cars that where never built.

What follows is my trek through three Citroen SMs to find an affordable, working car.

    Prologue:
I'm 42 years old. I have a daughter about to start college.
So WHY am I thinking of buying a Citroen SM?
Because for the past 17 years, it's the ONLY car I've ever wanted, and 25 years is long enough to wait for the best car ever made.

I had a lot of my "Dream Cars" all of them sold to cover kids college bills. Looking back at things 20 years after graduation I'd highly recommend that all parents allow their kids to pay for the four years on their own.
