Yes, went to the annual Father's Day show at Oakbrook Mall in IL. It was a little disappointing this year.

I went to this show also but as a spectator. Have to agree that amount of show cars seemed to be down. But still and enjoyable show to go to.

I however did notice the Packards :)

Have you ridden in a rumble seat?  I have not!

Yes I sure have I have ridden in one and it was in the car I own today the '31 Packard rumble seat. My great uncle owned the car before my father purchased it from him in in 1987. My great Uncle would take the '31 out on Sunday drives and a few us would jump in the rumble seat and he would drive around the Marquette Park area in Chicago.

I can still picture it in my mind o the joy and fun we had and the thumbs up from other drivers.

  3. The author of the article does sum it up nicely at the end, saying that the enjoyment of owning and driving is the reward, not the pounds and pence of financial gain.

I tried to copy and paste the last paragraph, but for some reason that doesn't work, a feature of the new forum perhaps?

    Conclusion

For the average owner, purchasing a classic car and returning it to its former glory is a labour of love. Whether they sell the car or not, most recoup their investment with long drives through the countryside or by attending car shows with other collectors. In other words, they get enjoyment out of owning the vehicle that cannot be quantified in terms of pounds and pence.

    Worked for me?

  5. Hi All,

Been sometime since I have posted. I have finally dropped my 31 883 468 Coupe off at the upholsterer to have the interior finally done. The trim man had asked me if I knew how the Passenger Seat-back was fasten.

Does anyone here know if it was fasten to the rear wood structure and if so how was it done or does it just set in place so it can be removable?

    Thanks

  6. Good Morning all,

A few years back we had a bad storm roll through and our house was hit by lightning. What we learned from that is to go around and unplug things like the TV's, stereo etc. Well while we were going around to unplug things all of the sudden we heard a loud bang and there was very bright flash. Yes we were hit once again. As Sue and I were walking around the house checking to see what got damaged/blown she called me out to the garage. We had water coming in through the sills. As I walked around Old Bessie (Packard) I am like what the heck is this on the floor. I picked up the object and go this sure looks like the cap for Bessies battery. I look over the side mount tire and this is what I saw.

Yes the battery blew it's top. So what I gathered what happen here is that I had a Battery tender attached to the battery. This tender is just one of them small 6v ones that is like a little transformer. When the lighting hit it went through the tender and just blew the top right off the battery.

I posted this to let others know if you have a tender attached to your vehicle and a storm starts to roll through your area please detach the tender as you can see what can happen.
