  1. I am putting stories together about barnyard finds with pics. any interest in sending stories... please send to kmstrade@aol.com
  2. Maybe we should to include myself quit promoting EBAY on this site and with a few more color photos etc try to expand this as the ultimate trading location. I have bought my share of parts/sold parts/bought twenty era repair books but EBAY has become a more a source for overpriced items that a true benefit to the hobby. Plus we have the tools to market this site like the prewar ( Belgian site ) car location. A few articles/pic/ classified or trading section it would not take long for the word to spread. keith sparks auburn/moon
  3. Steve, would it be cost prohibitive to offer the magazine once a year to the general newstands or an edited version with a selected articles and interesting items?
  4. great and articulate points. as far as the magazine which i have enjoyed i would suggest more barnyard find stories. as far as members i would suggest recruiting drives and those chapters that do the best off recognition/awards. we then all could learn what we we could do better. keith 22 auburn 20 moon
  5. looks like it will be a great project for you. might want to identify what parts you need ( new harness etc etc ) to throw in the container before you ship over to Finland. Now being a teen/twenty era enthusiast what are those wood wheels in the background off of? thanks, keith
  6. I am guilty party since i let my membership lapse due to living overseas but will soon correct. The comments about unrestored older ( teen/twenty era ) projects not be as available has a lot of merit. But the only true way to expand interest in the AACA is to encourage current members to try their best to share their love of old cars with their kids, when showing an older car have a small board explaining the history of the vehicle or old ads, discourage the myth that you have to be rich to own any pre 40 car, expand the amount of impromtu showing of cars whether in the downtown area of a town or the local sonics, when young people are at a show be helpful in explaining the vehicle and answer questions, we are all guilty of sitting in our lawn chairs talking with each other than selling the hobby to those looking in our cars ( i remember as a kid in the sixties asking questions at the Stowe meet to an owner with a 15 Pierce Arrow who made a point of just being plain rude ) We have to think out of the box and sell our hobby like a vendor at a covention booth. I grew to love old cars because my dad collected them. My highlight of the weekends was tracking leads through out vermont and new hampshire. i was sold on the hobby since my dad new AK Miller in Vermont. The thrill of those days seeing Stutzs, Rolls, Minvera, etc etc in barns unrestored will last me a life time. Keith Sparks 22 Auburn 20 Moon
  7. THANKS, i am sure it will be bid less item when it is all said and done.
  8. thanks for the note. in between a busy job down here i like the diversion of checking the aaca slot. the auburn is a great project but one of sentiment. i owned a 22 auburn beauty six found in a field in vermont in 1970 as a fourteen year old. my dad bought the 24 stude special six next two it. later when i went to college my dad had so many projects the auburn was sold. i was disappointed but such is life. I spent ( now 47 ) 25 plus years periodically advertising for a auburn beauty six project. one day i got an email stating a gentleman had a 22 auburn. found out it was the exact same car i had owned as a kid. my dad sold to a guy in canada then this gentleman's father. thus i have the same car back and will restore it. i will give John Ryder a call in the near future to see how his projects are going. he also a 23 stutz bearcat project but i believe that needs more body parts than anything else on the stutz. the pan american he has sent me literature on what he needs but it is tough search. i know the majority independent makes dont hold the same value ( exception Reveres, Cunninghams etc ) but it more about the love of cars when you stumbled across something. take care keith
  9. i would even add Case where someone called me last year to see if i was interested in a project but it was too high.
  10. It appears to me that HCS, Roamer, etc etc sold alot of cars in Australia to help offset the lost of the market after 1920. i have an auburn beauty restoration project and there are only a couple left in the world but in australia only there are two.
  11. thanks, John R is a good man. I have looked for a year for an engine for him with no luck but i always believe there is something out there. I have bent his ear on occasion after a guy from PERTH picked up stuff i sold in Virginia. Problem was that i am in Colombia working and my friend was not versed on car stuff when this guy picked up what i had sold. next thing when i got back to teh states i know i missing early stutz cowl, hcs front end, etc etc plus did not leave the balance of the money owed. good lesson but 90 per cent of old car guys are honest. with your engine advice maybe we can search also for something other than a HS engine. i too am interested in independent makes 17-23 ( i have a 20 moon and 22 auburn project ). thanks and enjoyed the conversation.
  12. also any leads on 20 Moon and 22 Auburn parts would be appreciated.
  13. A saw another post about the Pan American reference literature but perhaps the same original. John Ryder is good people and have sold him some Stutz stuff in the past. He is looking for a Hershall Spillman motor and i will let him know i found some late teen continentals but not sure if the 17 had anything but HS engines. take care keith sparks
  14. they may have provided Moon also but will check. I am looking for the body manufacturer for my 22 auburn project. thanks keith kmstrade@aol.com
  15. A friend of mine in Australia as a 17 Pan American project. He is looking for a Hershal Spillman motor. I also understand that the Pan American also used Continental engines maybe 7R. Also looking for early 20 auburn/moon parts. thanks
  16. Wayne, thanks for the alert on John. Though i have been working overseas for the last five years i stayed in touch with John. My home is in Roanoke and would look forward to visiting John during travels. I gave him sold old Cleveland or Chandler letterhead letters for his museum in the past plus bought some early CAD top bows.Great guy and he had just sent me an email about his Stephens about a month ago. Very sorry to hear this. I would not have know if you had not sent this note out.
  17. i have had different cars and project cars over the years of late teen and early twenty makes. mostly orphan makes. for me it is a matter of loving to have projects in the garage, trying to save a project from the junkyard etc.
