  1. My '49 tranny was toasted by not installing cooler hoses properly. Make sure your transmission cooler receives water or tranny fluid will overheat and friction plates will warp. Someone overhauling tranny in the first time forgot to add cooler back and my tranny lasted 2000 miles first overhaul was done before my ownership and I drove it to death not knowing about it. Fortunately I found good repairer who did it just to see why it is supposed to be hard to fix. He doesn't repair th350 etc. trannies because everyone can do it in their home
  2. Thanks for tips, fortunately I've got small hands to help me out have to try when in garage next time. My car is 30miles from me so quick progress isn't going to happen around car but at my basement. Basement painted dash and behind are inner fender and '55 Coronado sills These things show progress Manifolds before and after. I'll be painting intake to engine color still. And good thing is: I found the striker plate from Buick Farm. Nice.
  3. Thanks guys, I was searching for forties Cadillac but here then, before Internet explosion it was futile. I saw this and was sold I'm holding myself back So many hobbies and too little patience to focus properly. Now here is few '49 topics floating and decided to add one more for general kicks. I really was blown away by 49_buick_super's machine. I've got some progress lately and more parts are on the way. Main focus is to get front end done first and then move to other things. I need to get this wrapped together so I can remeber how it looks and feels before taking different place apart. I'

  5. Hi all, I've been reader here more than a decade without much to add. I've decided to start a topic of my car, hopefully it will give the added boost to get it back on the road again. But here is a start withsome pics. Pic after I got it lowered and back on the wheels after tranny rebuilt. Cruising night photo. Does anybody have spare trim piece and base for it between door and rear wheel well. Unfortunately weakest link breaks and next was engine, crank bearing spun and my riding was done. Engine swap started: after removing these roadie will be light as a feather.
  6. Hi, I've encountered problem with different rubber parts, my car was painted quite a many years ago and when prepping they threw away old rubbers parts. Now It's been on the road without any wetherstripping and rubber bumpers etc. I finally decided to finish engine bay "resto" and been searching those absent parts. Ugly truth is that since I don't have pics of parts that I miss I don't have a clue what part numbers I have to buy from Cars or Bob's. I didn't expect such a variety and lack of details from them. I've got chassis and body manuals and shop manual but those are virtually useless whe
  7. Dash is not welded. I removed all chrome trim from inside but windshield is still on. I don't remember how many bolts there are, but I do remember that it took a while
  8. When I bought my '49 it had a dying VW beetle battery in it, sometimes it started and sometimes didn't. After a while it didn't more than did <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. During that period of time Buick was my daily driver and I had daily job. I had my jumpwires plugged to the battery and coming to cabin from window, my 12V battery was in floor and hadthe negative side plugged. When I needed to start I just pushed positive to battery with hand and my leg pushed pedal... when it started just raised the positive from battery. Scary? nope, dangero

  11. I vote for Hot rod... no modern street rod (irs, small block chevy, injection, AC) but fifties style hotrod with all the good old stuff. I mean Ford flattie or even original engine and original suspension. I would make it look like it was last raced in the fifties.

  15. interior (excluding instruments) is from 1961 to 1963 T-bird.
  16. Maybe your converter was full of stuck s*it and therefore you needed to open another hole to bleed thru and during your voyage all suff has got loose from walls etc . messing your fluid but bleeding out much easier.
  17. I have two different dynaflows, and both are from '49 Buick Other one that was in my car isn't equipped with anykind of cooling to tranny oil and was fastened to flywheel with three bolts. This new tranny was fastened by six bolts and is equipped with water cooling. Was tranny cooling an option or was it just removed from my old tranny? how are hoses supposed to go? Thanks!
  18. I ordered kingpins for my car and received them today, trouble is that box says that for '53-'56 50/70 series cars. Are they what I need? I don't have access to any partnumber books. Thanks for Info.

  20. Hi! After some research from Chilton repair manual I discovered that if I wan't to change my old turbine to new tranny, I'll have to take it apart? Is it so, or have I understood it wrong? Chilton shows how to do it thou. I have one together (I remember that it was originally done so) balanced turbine and flywheel and busted tranny (leaks heavily and doesn't pull well) and good tranny with turbine. Thanks for info

  22. My '49 does the same and it has new, well two summers old battery.. battery negative cable gets very warm when I start it. Maybe starter solenoid is going bad and it needs more power when engine is hot, or our engine timing is bit wrong. I always laugh that my Buick orders me to take coffee break and come back later <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I'm looking companies who sells oldies tires and Coker has nice ones, are there any others? in this pic, htose whitewall seems much wider than Coker classic L78-15, or Firestone 820-15 what has 4 1/4 inch.   24. Maybe your battery is loose and moves when you turn. I had one Ford which quit always when I hit the brakes and came on after it when battery straightened out.... I had negative cable loose and battery too <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
