  1. I don't know how rare but assume that its very rare. I've never seen one talked about on here, way cool car by the way.
  2. By the Willie when is the spring Bluebonnets and Buicks meet.
  3. I was thinking about putting it back together with the parts. I spent a little time cleaning them up with some emery cloth and they look better but not perfect. I will probably go that way. The shaft and gears should be hardened so shouldn't wear much. The grease was very dirty but no metal. I have to wait for the new wheel bearings and races then I suppose find a machine shop to press the races on the axles.
  4. Took my rear end apart on the 55 Special to pack the rear wheel bearing and I found the cross shaft and spider gears are worn pretty bad. Also going to have to replace both bearing and races because the one in the car show a lot of wear and are starting to flake. The rest of the gears look good and there were no filings in the grease.
  5. Biggest issue we have is not owning the truck we have to watch out of route miles. With fuel at $3+ per gallon and 7 mpg that can ad up. Also I worry about places to park. Takes quite a bit of
  6. We are on our way again to Georgia. This time to Villa Rica then Forest Park. We seem to spend a lot of time on I 20 in Georgia. Just a little to far to drive up and see you at 7 mpg
  7. Been busy trucking and getting settled into new home and shop. We drove240,000 miles in 2012 plus the move so been a little nuts. Got the rear axles pulled out of the 55 getting ready for Indiana.
  8. I am a fan of driving and even drive my 29 regularly around the area. In fact I can barely start it and back it out of the garage without taking it on a few mile excersize run. That said, I plan on doing some touring with it and hope to be able to take it on some of the prewar after tours when time and money allow. I will trailer it to any location over 150 or 200 miles away for practical reasons, it is not fast on the road, parts for this car are getting harder and harder to find and while not putting a lot of wear on them staying close to home driving long distances to a tour, then on a tour and back home again will be a strain for any 80+ year old car. However by the time I am ready to do some serious tours with this car I hope to Have my 1965 GMC short box pickup ready to be the tow vehicle so will still be driving a collector vehicle to the meets.
  9. Quite some time ago Mr Earl posted a saying I have always wanted to put on a sign. I asked a vendor on Ebay if he could do it for me and they made it. The only thing bad about this is that I am sure eventually it will show up with Chuvy and everyone else on it but I will be the first in the neighborhood to have them on my garage. Here is a picture of the sign and an item number for it in case anyone else here is interested. Just put this in the search engine in Ebay 261103867264 and it will pop up.
  10. Did a little reorganizing when we got home yesterday. Got 5 cars and the boat in the big garage and put the 65 GMC in the garage with the Skylark. Now just need to get the house garage empty and I can put the good pickup in there and everything that needs to be in is in.
  11. My wife and daughter drover the 55, my son the 65 GMC pickup and I drove the 29 40 miles to Tinas and my High School get together yesterday. I just love driving the 29 and it ran and drove great (as usual). We had a great time and my father in law rode through the parade with me. The more I drive that old car the more I like it.
  12. I think the History channel has some great new shows. I also watch Pawn stars and American pickers and also cajun Pawn Stars when I can. American pickers is probably my favorite. We go past the exit where they have there store in Iowa quite often and I am tempted to stop some time just to see the place but now sure if we can park the truck around there anywhere.
  13. The windshield opening crank on my 29 wasn't working and I took it apart yesterday. I need the gear that attaches to the crank or the entire mechanism. Any ideas of where to find one or get a gear made would be appreciated.
  14. Anyone else enjoy this show. I notice in the opening credits they show a 59 Buick. Pretty fun show to watch.
  15. I am trying to make the spare tire on my 1929 model 29-27 useable. It has a lock on it and I have no key for it. I took it to a couple lock smiths and they are unable to open it. They both said it is frozen with age and they are not able to use picks to get it open. Does anyone know how to remove this so I can replace the tire and use it in case I need it. Here are some pictures of it. Already put on prewar board just added here. Thanks

  17. So sad to hear this. He went out of his way to give me info on our 29 when we bought it.
  18. Been on the road for a month other than a couple quick stops by the house for a few hours. The new home is in Lennox SD only about 15 miles from the old home. Lots of work to do yet but all the cars have a new place. Still don't have room for my 65 GMC pickup.
  19. Although I haven't had much time to enjoy them we have moved into our new house and the cars have their new garages. I am going to post a couple of pictures of them. Not showing the attached garage on the house. The Grey garage is mostly for storage and the white building will be the shop as it is wired for 220 and insulated. There are 3 empty lots between the garages that we own also so room for more.
  20. I am not sure about the gardens but I know the Zoo is free as is the science center.
  21. Before going to the expense of rebuilding the rear shock make sure what you have is full of shock oil. If made a world of difference on mine once they were full and rides great now. Use Hydralic Jack oil if you can't find shock oil. Front shocks are available from Cars Inc.
  22. He also had this cool little pickup. If only........
