  6. As StudeQ commented it is a Model EL Special Six. With a serial number of 3041627 that would make it a 1923.

  8. Hi Studenut1915, Here is information about cone clutch's I had the families 1917 done but this gentleman He does lots of cone clutch's. We have not had any problems. Make sure you follow his instructions about oiling and care of the leather. Here is the info I have on file: I just got my leather cone clutch relined by Bob Knaak (Orange, CA) and had to say something... It is rare to find someone who does such excellent work, with such a short turnaround, for such a reasonable price! I sent the clutch out, waited about 10 days, then called to make sure he had received it OK. He said "Oh yes. It's already finished and on it's way back.". What I received was what looks like a brand new clutch! The clutch wheel all painted nice, a replacement for a broken spring fabricated, new clutch facing (already treated). All within a very short time! Guys, if you ever need a cone clutch relined, I can tell you, you'll be very happy with Bob Knaak's service! His number is (714) 633-9736 in Orange, CA.

  15. Doug in Oz This is very interesting as I have many of these engines. I have actually had one of them lock up while drining ... NOT a nice result. If their is something better, very interesting. Please post your progress
  16. Hi Doug in Oz I do not know what the breakaway torgue is on the motors. But interested in your idea to modify them. Would you explain The Commander Rick

  18. Hi 1928 FB Looks like a 1922 Special Six to me. Make sure to check you barrels and head closely for cracks. I have talked to numerous guys in the snow areas that have lots of trouble finding any parts that are not cracked due to its age, internal rusting and water left in the blocks. Once you check out your parts for cracks ... let us know what was found. I have found that new Special Six rings are a little tuff to find unless you get them with a new piston set. While you are at it, have your machine shop check the bores to see what size they are and if it possible to bore it at all. What is wrong with the valves. Can they be repaired? Can the block be re-cut? Make sure to check the old valves for being bent and also check the condition of the valve guide. The valves will bend and wear out the guides. Attached is a picture of my 1922 Special Six The Commander Rick
  19. The EW or ES engine will be good for parts. It will not bolt into the 1923 cars frame. They have different. The Commander Rick
  20. Many of the parts are interchangeable, But the engines ARE DIFFERENT. The back of the engine ... one has a bell housing, the other nothing. The oil systems inside are totally different. Yes, you can change pistons, barrels and heads ( Special to Special and Big to Big. Accessories are mostly the same. I have rebuilt both Rick
