  2. Thanks for the info. My Maxwells are earlier, but I am sure there are later owners out there who will be interested.
  3. If there is any way you can use a 1" by 1 1/4" cross section bow, Witmer's Coach Shop in New Holland, PA has them in 17 different widths for about 8 bucks. If you need a different cross section perhaps they could do them for you as a special. I have used them many times on older cars. They work just fine.
  4. I am interested in the tail light. I am restoring a 1910 AA that needs a light. What does the light say on the top of he chimney for further identification? twrcars@winternet.com
  5. The observance of the Maxwell centennial will be in New Castle, IN, June 20-24, 2004. More than 100 Maxwell owners have signified an intention to attend. New Castle is the site of sole remaining plant that produced Maxwells. It was erected in 1907. For further information contact Vern Campbell, dvcampbell@toast.net
  6. Hi. I believe that J Dix at jdix6@stny.rr.com was repro-ing rear ends a while back. You might want to check with him.

    Maxwell literature

Your market is small, so your exposure should be broad. I would suggest e-bay. You may though, catch a buyer where you are on the Registry forum.
  9. Hi. Sounds as though you have a Messenger with an AB engine. The Messenger body, hood and radiator are distinctively different from the AB . Messenger engines are AC. Lever works as follows. from back to front. reverse, neutral, low, neutral, high. How it works mechically is the topic of many more words.
  10. Hi. Pls send me a picture @ twrcars@winternet.com
  11. Hi. The instruction manual states that the dash oilers should be set to "feed at the rate of not less than 20 drops per minute" I use 50 weight oil. Remember these are waste oil systems that are made to expel used oil. 30 weight will run through at an even more rapid rate, coating the underside, the floor and cars behind with your mark.

    1916 Briscoe

Hi. (1) The Maxwell Registry is limited to Maxwell-Briscoe automobiles. Briscoe is a different marque. They would have no particular information on those autos. (2) I once owned and restored a 1916 Briscoe. I sold it many years ago, but have some limited information on it.
  13. Hi Merle. Paul C needs a No 4 I believe for his AA. What are you asking? Condition? Tom
  14. There really aren't any Maxwell-Chalmers. In 1919 Chalmers leased some factory space to Maxwell. In 1922 further joint manufacturing arrangements were entered into. It is doubtful if any cars called Maxwell-Chalmers were offered. If you have one it would indeed be a rarity.
  15. My key store doesn't have blanks to make keys for my 1964 Skylark. Anyone know where I can get these?
  16. Bob: I need all 6 of the equalizing gear pinions (part #751A). I might be interested in other parts of the differential also. Pls e-mail me at twrcars@winternet.com Thx.

    AB Striping

Does anyone know with certainty whether or not AB models were striped? The sales brochure shows no signs of striping. I don't want to paint what I cannot prove. So far it is just "dark blue with cream wheels".
  18. Hi. Until you get your screen completed, don't be afraid to use a roll down screen. These tack inside he front bow, roll down and snap around the side light brackets. These work well in inclement weather and are not in the way during the clement variety.
  19. My assessment would be that the fenders are black, because they were japanned while the body was color varnished; the wheels, body color (Green). The carmine (red) striping would make the most sense against the green, outlining the panels inside the black reveals and on the wheels. The gold striping probably would be on the fenders, but I have never seen such.
  20. Acetylene tanks can be refilled, if they are not out of date. It is safe to assume that any tank that looks OK on our cars will be out of date, hence non-refillable. One might be tempted to cross connect to a modern full tank and perform a do-it-yourself refill. DO NOT DO SO. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Rather put your lovely empty nickel tank with the end gage on your running board or body side and hide a small MC tank under the seat and pipe to your lights for gas light parades. Tom Reese
  21. Hi. I can post pictures of the correct generators from a Maxwell/Westchester catalog. These give general appearange and size information. I could post also a picture of a generator on my car. e-mail me at: twrcars@winternet.com<BR>The wiring diagram will depend upon if you are using a mag or not, and if yes, the type of mag. A Splitdorf diagram I could help you with. Tom R
  22. I have located a pair of Maxwell No 1 sidelights. They are square with three tier chimneys. I have never heard of No 1's. What models did they go on? Anyone know?
  23. Attn: Maxwell Owners. Watch for your invitation to the Maxwell Centennial celebration, June 20-25, 2004, at the plant in Newcastle, IN. If you have not gotten your invitation, we do not have your name in the Registry. To add your name and receive an invitation contact: twrcars@winternet.com
  24. I have a scan of the page describing the Westchester generators along with a physical description of both styles. I will send it if I can find a way to attach it to this message. Otherwise, send me an e-mail at twrcars@winternet.com and I will send you a copy. If you are really interested I took a photo today of the installation on my Maxwell and would send that too when I get it developed. No digital cam yet!!
  25. Does your car have step plates or running boards? The step plate cars commonly used a Westchester nos. 5 or 6 for bolting to the frame, while the running board models used the Westchester nos. 2 or 3 for bolting to the board. Let me know and I'll send you a picture of what you are looking for.
