Facebook Posting, Here is the seller’s description:
“Model 71C Convertible. Barn find being offered for sale due to health issues. Partially restored. The engine was professionally restored by an old Buick mechanic. New starter and clutch. Reasonable offers will be considered“According to Classic Car Database 238 of the 71-c’s were made.
Looks like a very interesting project. Here is the link:

@TerryB I usually buy first and sell after (when the dust settles😂). Nothing in the works but I am aware of a couple of interesting cars available around my area. One never knows what the next day will bring…..

1948 Chrysler New Yorker 4dr
Eight Cylinder Fluid DriveSt. Clair Blue w/ Highlander Plaid InteriorMostly all original car w/ 68,000+ milesI am the third registered ownerIn my 4 yr ownership I have done the following:* New rear wheel and master brake cylinders*5 new Diamondback radial WWW tires* New parking brake band on the transmission* New points, plugs, cap, rotor, coil and fan belt* New correct reproduction trunk mat* Everything works properly except the clock (sorry!)The paint is mostly original, has usual scratches and nicksas befitting a 76 year old original car. The paint shines verynicely. The interior is beautiful original however the front carpetshows wear. Seat belts installed for safety. This car starts, runs, shifts, drives and stops as it should.A very easy and comfortable car to drive and ride in.Good title, collector plates all in my name.$19,900.- 5

Thanks @Gary_Ash, my Chrysler has no parking brake actuator in the rear brakes. It has the notorious band on the trans, something I did have to replace.

@Gary_Ash I am wondering if that clip behind the left shoe should be installed like the one on the right shoe? I also have Lockheed brakes in my 1948 Chrysler. Yes, PITB to adjust but my purchase of the Miller MT-19H brake gauge helped get the brakes in order.

I would not consider this discovery a setback, just something one finds during a thorough recommission of a vehicle. Great detective work on your part!

It was my understanding that the plaid pattern in my ‘48 NYer was called “McPhergus Plaid”.
This was according to Don Narus : “The red plaid used in 1940-’42 was the so-called Scotch plaid,” Narus said. “Postwar it was McPhergus for red, Black Watch for green (woven with stripes of green, dark blue and black wool), and was referred to as ‘Highlander Plaid.’”
My original interior is pictured below. Also pictured are two ads which were posted along with a surviving matching car for sale.- 1

The value of a parts car cannot be overestimated. Good move picking that one up. If one has spare room (in or out) and is recommissioning a lower production car, parts cars are a necessity. I have done this several times over the years.

The person who made the wood for my 1948 Packard Station Sedan does make a complete wood kit for the “shoebox” 1949-51 Fords. He is located in Osceola Wisconsin. He does fantastic work.

@kar3516 Thanks for the info and link Kent!
I will follow the link and watch the video. Too bad the people consulted by the owner did not try to “read the directions first”. To paraphrase Ed M, there are a lot of tractor mechanics out there…..

The only WK I have had any experience with was owned by a friend. Interesting car but it smoked like a coal furnace while running. My friend stated “ they all do that”. No one in our area had any experience with the WK and all were reluctant to take the car in for diagnosis.

Good reminder - time to call the mouse guy. Got sick of dealing with it myself...
Steve, do you recall my method for mouse deterrent? 37 years now without a mouse in my garage. They are in the shed behind my garage occasionally but I do not bother with them.
I’ve posted my method several times in the past, never heard from anyone if it worked for them.Well, here it is……simply leave a radio on a talk station 24/7. No need to make it loud. The fellow I learned this trick from has not had a mouse in his garage for 45 years. I guess we are both lucky…….

Agree @4Hud……I’ve driven a 32 Plymouth Roadster, nice running cars and great brakes for that era.
