Early 88

    I also had a very early car plus bought parts from an even earlier car. There were a number of differences from the other 88s that i believe I documented on this site. If you are going to part this it may be helpful if you take a lot of pictures. Two big things I remember from them is they both did not have a screw holding the escutcheon in place where the shoulder belt comes out of the upper panel, and the real early one had carpeting under the storage lids in the back. One of the early Buick data books actually shows these lids with carpet underneath.
  2. A number of years ago there was aguy from Kansas area with a number of Reattas he was selling. One was rear wheel drive with a big Buik V8. Anyone know what happened to it?
  3. I believe the Trofeo also had a factory phone with it's version of the touchscreen
  4. From GM numbers, there were 394 91 Reatta Coupes with a sunroof. Pretty sure I posted all the combined production numbers from these files.
  5. I mentioned before, the Allante pewter model was made by Reed and Barton in Taunton, MA. (It says so on the box) Maybe the Reatta came from the same place?
  6. Just came from a local junkyard-they have two 1956 Buick Supers. Seem complete but rusty. Some parts in back seat of one of them. Don't know anything about them, but I've dealt with the yard a long time and they are great guys. they will pnly have the cars a month or so then they get scrapped. Price is usually $100 a piece. Yard is Everetts Auto Parts, Thatcher St In Brockton, Mass. (508) 583-7478. Ask for Bob, tell him they are in the tow lot. They don't sell parts off them, just whole cars.
  7. You are reading the sales column wrong-this is NOT how many orders for that model year were placed, this is the number of cars sold that year. If you look at 1988 you can see there were almost 2000 cars not sold in model year 88. These were carried over into model year 89 (or even 90 and 91). The 7911 cars sold in 89 include the left over 88s and the new 89s. The 7022 sold in 90 include any leftover 88 and 89 cars. The sold cars add up to 21,111. That leaves 703 not sold at the end of 91 model year. As we know, some have never been sold and are still owned by dealers (or former dealers). Others were sold later.
  8. Highest VIN for a Convertible is 900622 built 3-7-91: Black/Black Top/Red Interior. No CD or 16 way seats. However, 900610 (Silver/Black Top/Grey Interior), 900619 (White/Tan Top/Beachwood Interior) and 900621 (White/White Top/Flame Red Interior) were built after the last VIN on 3-11-1991. Highest VIN for a Coupe is 901554 built 5-14-91 Red/Beachwood Interior. Also had 16 way seats and CD, so would be the last with those options. It was one of 15 cars built the last day of Reatta production. Highest VIN for a Sunroof Coupe is 901519 built 5-10-91 Red/Beachwood Interior. Also had 16 way seats and CD. There were 17 Sunroof cars made that day. However, 901513 (Red/Beachwood Interior) was built 5-13-91 and had a Sunroof and CD. Car 901515 (Red/Beachwood Interior) was built the last day or production 5-14-91 with a Sunroof and CD and 901517 (Red/Beachwood Interior) was also built 5-14-91 and had a Sunroof, CD, and 16 way seats. These were all scheduled to be built about the week of March 6 and the VINs were all higher than the last production convertible. It would be interesting to know if any of these were pre-purchased for a customer or made for dealer stock. (I wonder just how many in all were ordered by a customer and they waited for it to be built or was a dealer able to find one?) It's not hard to believe the convertibles were costing GM way too much money, not only in making them, but then testing them and the shipping from the test facility to the final destination-either dealer or back to GM, plus donations. I doubt the tax considerations were worth the efforts. Here is the production schedule for that week. Note there was no Friday builds completed, and Monday was loaded up again. (One of two times 55 cars were shown, the highest by far): Monday, March 4, 91 -17 Tuesday, March 5, 91 -16 Wednesday, March 6, 91 -18 Thursday, March 7, 91 -20 Monday, March 11, 91 -55 The top four weekly totals were: Monday, November 26, 90 -55 Monday, March 11, 91 -55 Monday, March 25, 91 -39 Monday, April 22, 91 -35 Thursday, December 13, 90 -26 Monday, April 29, 91- 26 Wednesday, December 12, 90 -24.
  9. So noted. Also noted two tone interiors and added bold references to third post. Would be interested to find more info on the Sales codes, Control codes, Dealer codes, etc. and what they mean. And is the key chip code located anywhere? Also, this code: B84 ORNAMENTATION, EXTERIOR, BODY SIDE MOLDING (USED WITH APPEARANCE PACKAGE Z12) BODY SI MLDG (B84) -799 If you add up the non-black body side moldings, it is 799. The 4 ENGINEERING TEST cars were made the same day, September 3, 1990. Regular production began Monday, November 19, 1990. The next group was one week later, Monday, November 26, 1990. 55 cars were made that day, the most of any day, then the next group were made Friday of that week so I would assume the 55 cars were started to acclimate the workers but maybe not completed that day? There were not a lot of 5-day weeks.

  13. AutoCheck is similar to CarFax. It shows the car was registered every year in GENESEO, IL. from 1992 to 2014.
  14. Not Compnine, from GM. Already gave the VIN last 4 but here is the whole thing: 1G4EC13L7MB901137 I know it looks odd-that is why I posted it. It is the only one that looks like this so far and I have less than a 100 left to enter. The first digits are the RPO codes. I looked for the axle code RPO H19 and found it was also used on the Kodiak and Grand Prix for 1991. I just ran an AutoCheck report and the car was last registered 03/19/2014 in GENESEO, IL. It looks like it has been there it's entire life, a one owner car.
  15. Have a couple more hours work to complete the 1991 Reatta Build database but just entered the data from this car. It has a number of odd RPO codes, color override, axle, etc. The car is a coupe VIN 1137, white, black molding, gold stripe, CD, sunroof, no 16 way seats. The interior codes are as follows: 66F COVERING COLOR - FLOOR MAT, MED BEECHWOOD (66F) 66I INTERIOR TRIM,MEDIUM BEECHWOOD (66I) 664 TRIM COMBINATION LEATHER, MED BEECHWOOD (664) 669 SEAT BELT COLOR,MEDIUM BEECHWOOD (669) Except, this one: 134 TRIM COMBINATION,LEATHER,LT SLATE GRAY (134) and instead of a "Color override" code it has this: 1PP PAINT SCHEME - 1 5 And that's not all. How about this one: H19 AXLE,REAR,23000 LBS,EATON 23070T,TWO SPEED 23070T EATON R/AXL(H19) And it has all these, the only car so far with any of them, let alone all of them: 41 Unknown 1BD Unknown 1BU Unknown 401 Unknown 570 Unknown 956 Unknown 957 Unknown 96 Unknown 0 Unknown P.. Unknown S19 Unknown The car was built April 11, 1991 along with a number of other Reattas that day Any thoughts?
  16. I have completed most of the 1991 database information and would like to share what I have for the convertibles. First, sorry to say no Polo Green converts showed up on the list from GM. The 34 VINs also showed up as unbuilt, and they did not have colors or any other info assigned to them. I also searched CarFax and AutoCheck and these VINs did not show up anywhere. I'm not speculating on anything, just saying the GM supplied documents do not show them. You will have to make your own judgement. Here is the color breakdown: Black-44 Blue-22 Burgundy-13 Green-0 Grey-5 Red-88 Silver-23 White-110 The top colors were all listed as vinyl, with color breakdown as follows: Black-44 Tan-105 White-131 Interior colors: (cars in parentheses are how many had 16 way seats) Blue-31 (19) Grey-53 (25) Red-98 (52) Saddle-120 (57) White/Blue-3 (1) White/Red-2 (2) So a more thorough breakdown: Color Top Interior (Total # Color) (Total # Color) (16 Way Seats) Black (44) Black (29) Grey-12 (7) Black (44) Black (29) Red-7 (3) Black (44) Black (29) Tan-10 (6) Black (44) Tan (13) Tan-13 (7) Black (44) White (2) Grey-2 (2) Blue (22) Black (1) Blue-1 (1) Blue (22) White (21) Blue-17 (11) Blue (22) White (21) Grey-3 (0) Blue (22) White (21) White/Blue-1 (0) Burg (13) Black (2) Grey-2 (2) Burg (13) Tan (2) Red-1 (0) Burg (13) Tan (2) Saddle-10 (2) Grey (5) Black (4) Blue-1 (1) Grey (5) Black (4) Grey-3 (0) Grey (5) White (1) Grey-1 (1) Red (88) Black (8) Grey-2 (1) Red (88) Black (8) Red-5 (3) Red (88) Black (8) Saddle-1 (1) Red (88) Tan (68) Grey-2 (2) Red (88) Tan (68) Saddle-66 (29) Red (88) White (12) Grey-1 (0) Red (88) White (12) Red-10 (7) Red (88) White (12) Saddle-1 (0) Silver (23) Black (22) Blue-2 (2) Silver (23) Black (22) Grey-18 (7) Silver (23) Black (22) Red-2 (0) Silver (23) White (1) Grey-1 (0) White (110) Black (3) Grey-1 (1) White (110) Black (3) Red-2 (1) White (110) Tan (13) Tan-13 (6) White (110) White (94) Blue-10 (5) White (110) White (94) Grey-5 (3) White (110) White (94) Red-96 (52) White (110) White (94) Saddle-120 (57) White (110) White (94) White/Red-2 (2) White (110) White (94) White/Blue-2 (1) 176 converts had CDs, 112 had both CDs and 16 way seats (I have which ones in a database) Pinstripes-I also have individual cars and combination color/top/interior, but here is a total rundown: Delete-42 Black-20 Blue-19 Gold-107 Gunmetal-13 Red-77 Red/Grey-3 White-24 Moldings- Black-160 (to include the 49 black cars) Blue-12 Burgundy-10 Grey-1 Red-43 Silver-5 White-75 There were 19 cars built with Calif. emissions. There were 15 cars built for Canada 17 cars had white wheels, including all 5 white leather interior cars. The first 6 cars were designated as Pilot Cars. (VIN 2, 8, 9, 11, 12) 6 cars were designated ENG TEST CARS. (VIN 14, 15, 16, 17, 329, 347. Cars 329 and 347 were sold to the public). 5 cars had a COLOR OVERRIDE: 436-Red, Blk top, Red interior, blk moldings, delete pinstripe (There were 5 Red cars with a Black top and a Red interior) 477-Burg, Tan top, Red int, Burg moldings, delete pinstripe (only one made) 498-Red, Tan top, Grey int, Red moldings, Gold pinstripe (only two made) 571-Red, Tan top, Grey int, Red moldings, Gold pinstripe (only two made) 572-Red, White top, Saddle int, Red moldings, Gold pinstripe (only one made) The first 12 1991 Reattas had this tire code: QGW TIRE,ALL P215/60 R/16 N BL R/PE ST TL HWY TIRE(QGW) All the others had this one: QPE TIRE ALL- P215/60R16/N BL R/PE ST TL AL2 TIRE(QPE) Regular 91 production began the week of December 12, 1990. Here is the dates of the first 12 convertible builds: 900002 3/23/90 900005 4/2/90 900008 4/5/90 900009 4/6/90 900011 4/10/90 900012 4/9/90 900013 4/11/90 900014 9/3/90 900015 9/3/90 900016 9/3/90 900017 9/3/90 900242 12/12/90 Car #622 is the convert with the highest VIN, built March 7, 1991. However, cars 610, 619, 621 were all built March 11, 1991 thus ending convertible production. (The 34 unbuilt VINs begin with car #624) The first 11 cars (Pilot/Eng cars) did NOT have this RPO: V4J IDENTIFICATION MID-YEAR INTRODUCTION OF REATTA CONVERTIBLE POWER PULL DOWN MOTORS WHICH WILL REPLACE THE MANUAL SYSTEM. ELEC F/TOP(V4J) There were a lot of PACKAGE OPTIONS and CONTROL -SALES ITEMS I have not been able to identify. If you could post your ID label from the spare tire wheelwell it may help determine what some of these codes are. I will send the complete database to Barney and he can share when he goes through it so the specific car info can be seen.
  17. I am completing the complete 91 VIN and option/color/date list and would like to compare it with some actual info from the ID labels. If possible could you post some pictures of the labels here-would like to see a dozen of so, starting with 91s. thanks
  18. Barney, I have just about a thousand 91s completed, and hope to have the rest done within the week. there are a few mistakes, but not as many as you would think. (One convert is a coupe, a couple of VINs with a wrong digit, a few colors wrong). It will be as accurate as possible-I think-with the options, colors, pinstripes, white wheels, calif emissions, Canadian, an export, and a few other interesting cars. One thing i would like is some photos of the 91 id labels from the tire wells-hope to get a dozen or so to look at the codes and try an match them to the RPO codes. Stay tuned.

    Reatta parts

    I have bought numerous parts from Jim over the years and have never once had a single problem. I wish the vendors with some of the other cars I deal with were all like Jim!
  20. As mentioned, I have a number of resources I have used to collect info on the cars. I am almost finished compiling the complete list of 91 Reattas. Here are 8 coupes with white wheels I just grabbed off my database:
<tbody>
ID# Serial Build Date Color Pinstripe Mold Top Clr Int 16 CD Sun Comments

1G4EC13L6MB 900030 11/19/90 WHITE DELETE WH  RED Y N N White Wheels, Calif Emission

1G4EC13L3MB 900082 11/30/90 WHITE  DELETE WH  RED Y Y Y White Wheels

1G4EC13L0MB 900119 12/3/90 WHITE  DELETE BK  BLUE N N N White Wheels

1G4EC13L1MB 900212 12/10/90 WHITE RED WH  RED Y Y N White Wheels

1G4EC13L5MB 900228 12/11/90 WHITE RED WH  RED N N N White Wheels

1G4EC13L5MB 900259 12/11/90 WHITE RED WH  RED N N N White Wheels

1G4EC13L9MB 901141 4/15/91 WHITE DELETE WH  BLUE N N N White Wheels

1G4EC13L4MB 901354 4/30/91 WHITE RED RD  RED N N N White Wheels
</tbody>
Notice I also have the pinstripe color, the build date, Calif Emissions, Canadian cars, etc. Compnine is not reliable because it only lists the cars it identifies as a REATTA. Sometimes under "VEHICLE" it will state "NOT LISTED". You will get the car data, but the production numbers won't be there. COMPNINE shows only 1313 91 Reattas made because of this. By the end of the month I will have all 91s completed, plus I will have at least the complete VIN list of 88-90 cars. I have merged it with Barney's database. and when I am done I will send Barnet the complete project and let him go through it and publish it as he feels fit. I also belong to the Lincoln Mark II forum. Nicely organized and very civil. One hard fast rule is nothing on the for sale section without a price.
  21. Someone has taken me up on the offer and they will be pickled up soon. thanks to all who responded.
  22. I am happy to say someone did take me up on the offer and the cars will be leaving soon. Thank to everyone who responded.
  23. Posted this on the Reatta Buy/Sell page, but no interest yet. For pictures click on this link: http://forums.aaca.org/f200/very-early-vin-88-reatta-wont-391436.html You won't find a better deal, and here it is: I have bought and sold well over 50 Reattas since 1988. All my 4 kids and 12 nieces and nephews had Reattas as their first car, then I would get them back when they outgrew them. Reattas have been very good to me and my family, and the compliments I would get on the cars just confirmed my belief on why I had them. I especially enjoyed the convertibles and never did experience any cowl shake or rough ride. However, I am now 62 and took an early retirement due to arthritis and tough to bend and walk around. At 6'3 and 300 pounds I can no longer get in and out of the Reattas so started to sell them last year. I have two left, both 88s. Both cars are red/tan with 16 way seats. The first my oldest was driving until he had a blowout which ripped the fender and rocker apart. The ignition mechanism also broke and I replaced the steering column, breaking the horn while I was at it. I used parts from the second car to fix this one., The fender is red, but very faded compared to the rest of the car. The seats are excellent. Everything works. He drove it for over a year I think without any other problem. The second one I gave to my niece in 2001 and then her two sisters drove it. I gave it to a friend of mine a few years ago for his daughter but the windshield cracked and he never found another so it sat. I got it back to fix the first car, plus I needed a door to fix a blue 90 I sold. But this is a real early production car, and as I mentioned in another post on early cars there is probably about 20 early cars left, if that. I'd really hate to see this go. So because the Reattas have been so good to me, here is what I will do: I will GIVE these two Reattas away to whomever will keep #280 from being parted out and will repair it. At the very least, everything needed is on the other car, but at the most, not much is needed. But you have to save this car. No saying "It needed to much" or "I couldn't afford it" or any foolishness like that. Plain and simple, I will give them both to you-and you can drive the other once you fix he horn-but you have to restore #280 no question. The whole Reatta community will be watching you. so it will be your honor and integrity on the line. So the good: the left fender, door, decklid, quarters, taillight, hood, roof, headlight assy marker light, front and rear bumper are all good. the right door I removed yesterday so the car is not out in the weather long. I kept the right doors speaker, vent window, mirror. door panel. The right rocker and fender are destroyed. I put the fender on the car to connect the hood to the hinge. The interior of #280 isn't bad. there is fading, but there is no damage to the doorpanels or center armrest. the rear panels etc are okay as is the headliner. The touchscreen also worked last time the car had power. The steering column is out, the steering wheel is ripped. All four wheels are good, hubcaps are there but some are just okay. I don't remember if the headlight motors were rebuilt on #280, but they were just done last fall on the other one. When I restored the AMXs i would take every nut and bold off of them and repaint the entire car to include underneath-I was doing this in the late 70s long before most other muscle car restorers did it. One great thing at that time looking back was the availability of parts and resources because the cars weren't that old. they also shared a lot of parts with the Javelin, and mechanical parts with a lot of other models. The same is true of the Reatta. The $100 AMX I used to but are now $5-10K and the restored ones are easily $50K plus. I personally think the Reatta also has a future in the collectible world and premium prices will be paid for the right car in the future. "One of the first" and "One of the last" are always a good bet. Spring is here and I can't hold onto the cars. The quicker they go the better. You can email me at tbenvie@comcast.net if interested.
  24. Barney if you send me your email I'll send you the Excel database of all 88 VINs with some other comments and a Word document where I just Copied/Pasted the Autocheck report for the first 200. I also have the same for the 90 Select 60s-the database has 3 errors (noted as questions) . 4461 and 4482 are coupes, and 6726 is a red convert. And somewhere I have the Compnine of all the 91 converts-alas, no Polo Green mentioned, and the Compnine and Autocheck of all the Polo Green Reattas.
  25. Last picture is of the complete 88 with the fender off #280
