Wow! That will be a hot car! I love those original GM sports/muscle cars. And Matador red is absolutely the right color. Congratulations.

What a lovely example of a Studebaker...at least there are photos of it in the original condition.

OK I got my car back from Rickenbaugh's in Denver. They have been wonderful, very welcoming and careful. I am so thrilled that the heater now works and the lights are working as they should. Plus they told me of some things that will need work soon.
The antenna is apparently dead. So I will be looking for a good deal on one as well as rewiring the power to the up and down pins on the radio.
Work will begin on the interior as the weather warms, as well as a detailing of the engine compartment. I won't pull the engine but I will try and clean her up and painting the pieces that look a wee-bit grungy. Then new decals. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Truly beautiful. That is like the Blue one with the light blue gabardine and blue heather cloth. Very nice indeed. And fully loaded; from what the authenticity manual tells me, your car is authentically outfitted.

And it is a beautiful one too, Sig. It looks like a Senior winner from that photo. Does it have all the options? My Blue two tone 6219 has all of the bells and whistles but I do not think it will hit the road looking as good as yours for many years. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Unfortunately it is all too familiar in the British Isles due to the breakdown of just basic courtesy and manners. As in the U.S., the hoodlums, or Yabos as they are known there, feel completely within their rights to touch, take, damage or otherwise ruin another's property without expectation of punishment. They will cry it's just material stuff, man. But if you do it to their bikes or whatever, well then that is a different matter. Why else would you find a garden gnome chained to a tree? Some people just cannot leave things alone.
This news was very disturbing and sad.

Yes, that is what happened with the last car we bought. That 6219 was a beauty with all the trimmings....except of course that it was trashed inside and barely ran. sigh. So I sold my 1947 6269 so I could start the restoration on the Blue car. But as things have worked out, the money was too little to do anything and after some 'not so good wheeling dealing', we had even less. So Jonathan bought me the white car for Christmas so I would finally have something to drive and enjoy before I die. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
When I get the car back, I will start taking pictures of the points I am going to fix. Now I have it on good authority that there is at least one good badge that I can have within my fiscal reach for the front of the car (YES!) and that is a big improvement. Now I want to polish the wheen covers and repaint or colorize the badges in the center. As with much else on the car, they are worn. And there is some sheet metal work to do under the front fenders. To be honest, I am not sure if there is a lot of rust there or not. The whole plan is to clean it up, make it as nice as possible for daily use and then wait (haha) for the Blue car to be restored. Then I will take it on, and leave the White one for restoration or parts. Kind of a shame though. I rather like the clean, uncomplicated interior of the White car. I may just keep it and sell the restored one, if in 10 years or so we can even HAVE internal combustion engine cars. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I was reading through the various posts on the Buick and Packard forums, enjoying the various experiences with the other owners of old iron as they prepare their cars for show, road and just general use. So I thought "What the heck!" and decided to keep a record of my own work on the 6219 that has captured my heart.
I need to gather together the few pictures I have but it is a start. The car was found in Conneticutt and is in a good number two condition, although it is not original. The exterior has been painted a good two tone of white with a dark, metallic blue top. That is not far from the original which was a very light grey bottom, with a dark grey top. The car has minimal options: EZeye glass, Wonderbarr radio and electric antenna, fog lamps and heaters. But that sits just fine with me. I rather like having roll up windows, manual seat adjuster (that is stuck in the maximum position, also good for me <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ).
Most of you know I have another 6219 that is blue and maxed out in options my son is working on now. But he realized that it would take a very long time, years in fact, for him to get that car into driver shape, so he went out and found this white sedan that is a perfect driver.
So far, I have been polishing the chrome and interior pieces, cleaning up the seats and dash. The seats are in good condition with a few small tears as the material is old. The dash is in excellent condition and needs minimal work, and the dash pad looks new. Even the rather utilitarian dark grey carpet is in good shape but for the heel dug hole at the bottom of the excelerator. Most of the work is going to be cleaning and freshening the vinyl panels, headliner and putting the seats back together so they are tight and straight again. The front seat needs a little more work as the cushion is crumbling from dry rot underneath. Not bad at all.
Ok, so now the car, Noxima, is at Rickenbaugh's in Denver getting a little help from their craftsmen. They are working on the heater valve to see if it is stuck, straightening out a snarl of wiring so the headlights work correctly, and giving her a once over to be sure there are no hidden meanies waiting to pounce. I drove her down the other day and had a wonderful commute. It felt so good pulling up to the urban Cadillac-Volvo dealer and honking her horn to be let into the service area. I hope the pictures come out OK.

I sent Ed an email the other day, and he does have them. But because of their rarity, used ones are going for $550.00 and the gold colored letters, for $35.00 per letter. The up shot is that these few items have been very popular with the kiddies who love to steal such things, thinking they can't cost too much to replace if they think about it at all. Too bad you can't rig up the battery to the crest so when it is separated, POW! The little monster gets something to really whine about. Anyway I will keep looking and if there is no other choice, you can get a new one at McVeys for $250, at last count.

Oh POOH. You are right, I do not like hearing that but so be it. I will simply have to save up for one.
I am glad they are getting some of the letters in. Mine look great but have no pins on the back. They are glued to the trunk (eeew). So I either spend the money for repros or braze pins to the back of the originals. What a world. What a world. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Can anyone tell me how to secure the front seat lap belts so they won't break your hips or back in a serious accident, particularly a 'T' bone? My 6219 has rear belts (ugly as home made sin) and the fronts have been removed. I was thinking of replacing them with a better looking GM style ... but have been warned that without some form of tensioner, the belts can seriously harm you. It is kind of a danged if you do, danged if you don't proposition.

I was wondering about this myself. My door plates are all crusty with white stuff. I do not have a wheel but prefer to use old hand muscle (it's cheaper). Should I first try and remove the scale with a Lime remover or will any metal polishing compound work? And then once clean and bright, how do you paint the black patterns in again effectively? I have cleaned and repainted the headlight bezels and they look terrific.

I am looking for the plastic crest for the front of my series 62 sedan. I have the bezel on and intact, but it is missing the crest. I have had a generous offer for one only costing $450 or a new one from McVeys for $250, but needless to say those are out of my range. Does anyone know of a company that produces these for less than the National Debt?
Oh and McVeys used to carry the gold letters for the trunk lids (as of last quarter) but no longer ... any idea where these may be procured? Or do I have to fix mine? The pins are gone.

Great reply! And that is a beautiful car! Congratulations!!! I love the yellow and black combination. I remember my Grandmother had a 1956 Chevrolet BelAir sedan in those colors and it looked great. It was a wonderful car. Surprisingly I remember most of the big Chevys she had (all Impalas after the BelAir) were well built, comfortable and POWERFUL cars. You have a real beauty there.
