  1. You will have to measure the outside diameter and count the number of teeth on YOUR flexplate and compare it to the one for sale. That information fell out of my head ages ago.
  2. Ask the seller of the upper one for the O/D of his and for the tooth count on the ring gear. 40 and 50 series (special and super) should interchange but 70 series (roadmaster) should be a larger diameter. If it matches yours its a good deal! Lower one is a Flywheel, not a flexplate. Not for Dynaflow.
  3. In my experience cheap 6V batteries don't start Buicks. I have found that the Optima 6V battery does a good job of starting a hot Buick engine (and a hot suborn 312 Ford engine). Also John Deere has (or used to) a long narrow 6V battery that was used in some of their 12V diesel tractors.
  4. If you want a correct looking filter assembly, then call Bobs Automobilia 805-434-2963 as they try to keep them in stock. There should be a mounting bracket on the tappet cover IIRC
  5. I don't know what years interchange on the flexplate. If you belong to the Buick Club of America you can put a free part needed ad in the monthy magazine. Thats an interesting failure. Perhaps it can be patched, but I would look hard for a used one first.
  6. To my understanding this flexplate is not available. You will need to find a parts car with a Dynaflow. Flex plate interchanges between Special and Super but Roadmonster is unique.
  7. If you call Bobs Automobilia, at times they might be able to provide an aftermarket power brake unit depending on your car.
  8. Yes that should be the correct one, but to be sure give them a call. Mention "Bill" to them. I worked there many years and they are good guys.
  9. Does the car have a Dynaflow automatic transmission or a manual transmission? If the car has a manual transmission, Bobs Automobilia should have a ring gear. 805-434-2963
  10. If you are in need of a core transmission, Bobs Automobilia might have one 805-434-2963 For parts you might try Northwest Transmission 937-442-2811
  11. What do you have? It is either Not a Buick or its older than 1934.
  12. Having read the thread, I was also going to suggest making sure the vent is not plugged. Those Dynaflows loved to dump ATF out of the vent if overfilled or if left sitting too long without starting the engine. Someone may have plugged the vent thinking it would stop a leak.
  13. I hate to say it, but the best way to fix it is to first remove the shift cable assy and CLEAN it! They get gummy and then sticky and finally they break! You don't want that to happen as they are made of unobtainium. Then replace all the rubber bushings on the shift mechanism and reassemble and follow the shop manual for adjustment. If it wont stay in adjustment then the motor mounts are shot.
  14. Cars in New Jersey but I have never used em.
  15. Yes, the lock cyl and the switch are two separate parts. One needs a key to remove the lock cyl from the switch, or great care with a drill and a new lock cyl of the same style.
  16. Have you tried Bobs Automobilia? 805-434-2963 They speak only Buick'
  17. Lucky guess. I've seen it a few times. Buick bushings can be problematic
  18. Bobs Automobilia has about every part you would need for that transmission and sometimes has rebuilt ones in stock but they go fast. Knows those transmissions very well 805-434-2963
  19. Its available Here https://bobsautomobilia.com/literature-and-decals/owners-new-idea-mail-in-ballot-for-1938-.-sl-38b/
  20. On the main bearings they are bronze backings that are staked into place on the aluminum crankcase. The bearings are poured into the bronze and the crankcase is align bored to fit the crankshaft. This is NOT a simple operation. You should have shims in place from the factory IIRC. I rebuilt a 1928 Master 20 years ago.
  21. Loftbed Your oil filter looks like an Australian made reproduction. However I believe those used a sock type filter element in them. Possibly someone modified it to handle a spin-on filter. Most of the original fittings on the top of the original replaceable filters were die-cast, not cast iron like yours looks like.
  22. Looks like there is a proper logo for the pre-war site. Thank you Mr Moderator
  23. The starter solenoid does not like 12V and will fail in time. These solenoids are NOT being reproduced and usually cannot be repaired if used on 12V. There is a 12V starter that will fit the Buick and Will work with the carb switch. Bobs Automobilia carries them.
