  1. injection pumps go bad, with the new low sulfer fuel the pumps do not get enough lubracation then they go bad, and the repalcement pumps are the same as the orignal at least that is what they told me on the last one i change about 1 week ago. usually change 2-3 pe month
  2. not hard at all got a 100 but do this everyday for the past 30 years
  3. Auto tech started working in a ford dealership in 1969 went to amc/jeep/renault dealership now a full chrysler dealership. do all types of repair work but mostly auto computer and electrial systems and emission control systems
  4. no chickens in the coop but lots of sporrows and such. all the windows were up and the car was locked. I would see this car everytime I would drive by the nose was sticking in the door way. The person i had gotten the car from was and is a good friend. only paid the title transfer fee for the car. there was also a 1971 chrysler newport with a 440 in it but the motor was froze from sitting and for some reason the drive shaft was out, and of corse since the tires went flat and it sat on the ground(chicken poo) the floors rusted thru along with the frame and everthing else. all that was wrong with the desoto was a stuck valve and lots of bird poo and nests in the grille. alittle oil in the cylinder fired it up and to this day no problems.
  5. Have owned the desoto since 1990 saved it from a chicken coop that was being torn down, it sat in there for 11 years . Put in a new battery and some gas ant it fired right up. drove it for a few weeks and parked it untill this summer. it is competely orignal nothing has been done other than manitance work, runs great handles great fun to drive.
  6. some of my family 2001 jeep xj 4.0 mopar performance engine computer atlas 2 speed transfer case 2007 chrysler pacifica touring awd 1951 desoto s15 tip-toe shift 62600 orignal miles myself my wife brenda and of course frank-n-stine the blue eyed dog
  7. hey i got the same thing and i live in Pa. Mine had current plates on it but being that it was rusty it had to be removed. And I drove it once in a while too. So out come the spray gun and some cheap paint over the rust and all and they were happy. thye said even tho it had good plates it was still a nuisance because of the rust!!!! I think it was because it is just a ugly car to begin with a 1951 desoto, of they were jelouis ( I know i cant spell ) because they didnt have one
  8. Must sell due to new city ordance that will not allow an older car on your proptery unless it is in a garage, and not in the process of being fixed up. 9. working for a chrysler dealership we have no alternative cars to speak of we have flex fuel cars and vans but the fuel milage on them stink, most cars we have average 17-30 mpg. although my wife has a 2007 dodge caliber and it gets aroung town appx 32-36mpg. but you are right what is restoring the cars if fuel is no longer to be found all the electonics in the world wont make a gas engine run. how about a flux capatatior??
  10. I would say nuked in the microwave i would say. maybe we dont see todays jellybean car as collectable but what about the youth of today? they may see something.
  11. I work in a chrysler dealership have been since 1969, have seen cars change from simple easy to fix to complex computers on wheels. Most cars now days have anywhere from atleast 1 to 39 differnt computers on board. How is the average guy say in 25-30 years going to be able to restore one this cars? as most parts will only work on one car, cant swap electronics without big problems(junk yard parts are no out of the question) are these part going to be around? Is there going to be someone able to check these parts as most of the diag equiptment is very expensive and the adverage guy isnt going to be able to afford them. or is the old car hobby going to slowly die out? What is really going to happen?
  12. I have mounted many of split rims and they will come apart just driving down the road, or when putting them on the truck. You have to make sure the rim is clean and the lock ring is not deformed. Even at that they will come apart. Had a friend who had just mounted tires and was putting them on the truck and one came apart in his face busted him really bad. I had one come apart just sitting on the floor no one got hurt just a loud noise, had an old time tire man tell to always put the tire upside down on the floor that way if it did come apart the ring wouldnt fly. The other day had a car tire blow apart whe the kid was airing it up, seams he had snaged the bead and when he put air in it the bead blew apart, he didnt get hurt, but it sure smelled funny around the tire machine for awhile. Even used starting fluid to set the beads on had to set tubless tires mostly big truck tires, just spray sone inside the tire leave a trail away from the tire and light itand hit the air when it exlodes setting the bead, too much and the tire will jump into the air if not enought start over. Put radials on the Desoto wheels usesd the P-size tire but ran into a problem seems the tire baloons out at the side wall causing the tire to rub on the outter tierod end. (only mounted ont to try) Guess i will get the bias tires after all.
  13. I am needing to replace the tires on my 51 desoto since one blew out on saterday. They were bias tires about 15 years old (wonder why they went bad) The question is and i should really know this answer but have heard diffrent things on this is it safe to put radial tires on old type wheels? I have heard that the older wheels for bias tires wont handle the flex of radial tires and eventually break. I have been working in a chrysler dealership for 30 years anf havent had or heard of any problems. But i do rember a service bullten around 1976-78 NOT to put radial tires on anything but wheels rated for radial tires. Now since the car sits quit a bit and when i do drive it dosent go very far and usually not out on the highway very far i dont thing I will have any problems. any advice would be helpful thanks Melvin Schwentner
  14. thats an easy one to rember 15 is to young 36 is to old 24 is just right 153624

  22. I have been trying to sell my car on here and have gotten one response from a Patrick Prso dont know for sure if he is trying to scam me or not but it sure sounds liker it. He said that he would buy the car and wanted more info on it so i sent him some pics and the selling price, said sounded good. 2 days ago i get another message from him wanted to know the selling price, now all that was in the first message, but i thought that maybe i would give him a beter price,So once agin i gave him the price. Today i received anohter message from hinm stating that he would buy the car unseen, but he also said that like he told me before that someone else will pick up the car. Well we have never talked about picking up the car as of yet. All( and this gets good) I have had to do was send him all the info on where to send the check, so he can tell his client that owes him 3,500.00 where to send the money, then all I have to do si cash the check take out my selling price and send the diffrence to his "shipping agent" who will then get in touch with me on when and where to pick up the car. this will all take place as soon as i send him all my info--- yeah right like this jughead thinks I am going to do it that way. Does this sound right? Just wanted to let everyone know what is going on. trying to track this guy down so he dont take some poor soul out of his money, if any one knows this guy or has any another info on this matter let me know thank Melvin Schwentner
  23. almost forgot email mastertech8997@yahoo.com thanks Melvin Schwentner
