1. I need to replace my pipes and muffler up to the Catalytic (sp?) converter. When my mechanic looked for the replacement he discovered Buick has discontinued making the exhaust system for the Reatta. Other than having a system fabricated at a muffler shop are there any other suggestions. I have been told the Riviera system might do it...although it would be shorter. Would the Riviera exhaust system work for the Reatta? I have a 91. I haven't checked to see if Buick stopped making the exhaust pipes and muffler for the Riviera. Any help would be appreciated. I know I can get one fabricated but if the Riviera system would work and if it is still available it would probably be easier. Thanks...Doug Griffith, Centerville, OH
2. Thanks for your post Greg. I do see that I left out the year of my car...It's a '91
3. I have a problem with my Parking/tail lights. Recently we had a terrible storm and I had to use my flashers. When things improved I turned off the flashers but it took a hard pull. I also tried to turn off my parking lights from the dash but they wouldnt turn off. I also could not turn off my headlights. After some major frustration I pulled the fuses for the main headlights and the parking ligts. What I discovered after replacing the fuses was that as long as I dont have the fuse for parking lights in, my main headlights will open and close appropriately and I have brake lights but I dont have high beam on my headlights. When I insert the fuse for the parking lights my main lights come on again, but as before, I cant turn any of the lights off by the switches. So I have to run the car with no parking lights which really restricts night driving as I want to be safe. It appears the problem is in the switch somehow. However the switches both work and light up on the dash appropriately. So I am very confused and frustrating. Does anyone have any thoughts about this. Any thoughts about cost to repair if I take it in to Buick dealer. Will they have the switch I need if it has to be replaced or will I have to get one elsewhere. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...Doug
4. Hello everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have just become a Reatta owner and am very excited. Wanted one for a very long time. Love the design. Bought the car from RPopyk. Great deal all around. Just drove it home to Dayton, OH. Looking forward to lots of fun. Thanks
5. Hi. I am the fellow who the owner said was very interested in his car. Actually I called him about a week or so ago. And in fact I was interested at the time. The car was at his son in laws and he apparently lived somewhere else. The son in law told me that he might sell the car for close to 7k as it had been on the internet (Autotrader) for quite awhile and with very little interest. When I called the owner about the car and with the intention to go and see the car the owner told me that it had only been online for about three days, later to be corrected by his wife, whom he said was involved in putting it up on Autotrader. That made me a little nervous as I had been tracking the car for at least three weeks. Also he had some things to say about the AC service light coming on and that too made me a little anxious. However you said you saw the car and maybe he explained it better for you...In either event, I have bought a gorgeous car out of Syracuse and just drove it home today with my wife. I am very satisfied with how the deal came out and look forward to driving the car. Just thought I would add my two cents to your post. Thanks [color:"black"]
6. I am looking to buy a Reatta soon. I am looking for the right car. I have periodically visited the Reatta forum and read some of the listings here. It has been some time since I have done this until recently when I have begun to look for a car to buy. Because of postings I read some year or so ago, I have decided that I wanted to buy a 91 because of what everyone was writing about the [color:"black"] "catastrophic" braking problems that some owners...seemed like many...had experienced with the 88 and 89 Reatta's. I believe that the braking system did not change until 1991. Is that correct? As expected the 91 is a little harder to find. I wonder about the 90. Has it also had braking problems similar to the 88 and 89 Reatta. I also do not like the digital computer screen that is used in those years. I have seen the 90 without the computer screen, but I wonder if all the 90's used the conventional dash vs the computer dash. Any help and education in this would be most helpful. What I am most leery of is any trouble that could develop in the braking. If I have to wait for the right 91 then I don't mind doing so for the peace of mind. Thanks in advance for any input and expertise. I would love to hear of any 91's for sale. I would like a black coup. Would consider white also.I live in the Dayton Ohio area. Thanks. Doug Griffith
7. Wondering if there are any 91's for sale. I live in the Dayton OH area and not many show up here. Thanks
8. Thanks for your response REATAONE. Good for you. I'm glad You've had no problems with your system. Hey, and thanks for the spelling of "angst". I'll make sure I spell it correctly next time I type it...While I realize many, perhaps most of the 88-90 owners may have had no problems with their ABS system, such as yourself, I was wanting to hear from '91 owners. Thanks though, your input about how to spell angst will be helpful.
9. Darrin, Thanks for your reply. I have checked with Mr. Eaton and he provided some very helpful informaion. I was also hoping to hear from some '91 owners for their experiences with brakes or anything else. Sounds like the '91 Reatta uses a different braking system than the 88-90's. That seems to be the direction I'm looking given the many, many responses on this BB regarding problems with the ABS systems in those years. While I'm sure all cars have their quircks not being sure the car I am driving will perform as expected in braking situations gives me some anx't...especially if my nerves can be settled by just getting a different Reatta year such as the '91. Thanks again for your reply. Doug
10. I am interested in any information related to the 91 Reatta and the brake/ABS problems that appear to be specific to the 88-90 Reatta. I am considering buying a Reatta dont want to worry about the brakes when Im driving...I think it would destroy the fun of having such a wonderful car. I posted a question earlier and not too many people responded to the question about the brakes in the full range of 88-91 Reatta. I have received one Email response that indicated that the 91 Reatta may be a better choice given the brakes are different than for the 88-90. So, Im open to hear from you 91 owners as to any problems similar to those posted on the BB or for that matter any other serious problems I should consider. I really love the car but even the possibility of a catastrophic braking problem (which doesn't sound so remote given the postings I've read here) scares me to death...not only for myself but for my wife who would drive the car as well. Thanks for any and all input.
Doug
