1. Thanks guys. I didn't realize that it was a Knight engine. Lesson learned. That's what this DF and hobby is all about, learning from each other.
  2. Thomas, does your Overland have the Sleeve valve engine in it? Could you give me more infromation about that engine? Like horsepower rating, # of cyl, Bore& Stroke, valve size openings, etc.
I remember being at Hershey years ago as a little kid. The show was inside the Staduim. The car sat over were the race cars come onto the track for the condition run. The gentleman that owned it had several nickels sitting on edge on top of the engine while it was running. He would rev the engine and the nickles would just dance around on edge. That is the only thing I remember from the show I went to as a kid, while the show was being held in the stadium.
  3. Father Ron, in regards to your post the other night, you know how you go into this mess. You volunteered!! We also know you are someone we can openly talk to about AACA stuff and you can get the action taken that we can't as just one person. You speak, people listen.
I tough of this quick. you might like it.
23 psalms of the AACA DF
Father Ron is our shepherd; we shall not want.
He maketh us to lie down our wrenches: he leadeth us beside the still motors.
He restoreth his car: he leadeth us in the paths of restorations for AACA's sake.
Yea, though I surf through the DF's of cyberspace, I will fear no evil: for thou art with us; thy PC and thy posts they comfort me.
he preparest a thread for us in the presence of street rodders: thou anointest my head with motor oil; my beer cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the DF of the AACA for ever.
Hope you liked. See ya'll at Hershey
4. duh. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks Peter. I must be having a case of brain fade from going to work early and trying to get ready for Hershey.
  5. If you go to my chapter's website, under the photo gallaries, to the 1999 BMOC Show. There is a picture of the Beacon one of Alamance Chapter's members is restoring. It was brought to the show because of it being unsual and to show an example of a restoration in progress.
  6. Maybe we could get Peter to post that group picture for all. the worst it could do is crash eveyone's computers when the image comes up.
  7. Hey SalG, how do you think I came up with the dates other than my wooden nickles. Heck, i have a hard enough time keeping up with this year's show dates muchless future years.
  8. The chocolate field paving is to be done next year, before the show, from what I understand.

    Universal Joints

I have trw, fedral-mougal, sealed power parts books. What is this u-joint for? I'll look in the books to see what I can find.
  10. There are a lot of amish in the area. maybe you could get a horse and buggy to take you back to Philly.
Really, the only thing I can suggest is renting a car.
  11. The dates for hershey are:
2001 Oct 10-13
2002 Oct 9-12
2003 Oct 8-11
Hershey is always the first full week in Oct.
Did you send a picture of you for our DF meeting at Hershey? If not please email one to Ronbarn or myself. Our Df group would like to meet your image since you won't be to Hershey this year. ~novaman~
  12. Historical Preservation of Orignal Features
  13. yeah for Howard!!!! That's the stuff I move to NC from NY, to get away from.
  14. I think SalG is on the right track with society being a "throw-away" genreation. We as younger members tend to like the 60's and 70's cars. They are new enough that if you wanted to, you could still used them as "daily" drivers if you don't want to show them nationally but, are still antiques. the future "antiques-to-be" are going to become more and more difficult for the home restorer to work on.
For the most part the main reason you'll find a younger member in an "old" car (pre-55) would be becuase a family member had one and they liked it as a kid. As older members, didn't you restore mainly the cars you grew up with, just as we are doing?
I think we are working on a good idea here. Maybe it needs to be disscussed some more at the Hershey DF meetings. Father Ron, any possibility of getting the national directors for membership and such to the meeting?
The biggest reason i'm involved in antique cars is my dad. He had I believe a 38 or 39 Mercury Convertibale. He took me to the car meeting as a kid. Heck, til it ended up I became a auto mechanic, and now I build drag cars for a living. How the automobile interest made the path for my life to follow.
novaman, AACA Life member for 18yrs, age 34

No, but there information on him at: http://www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys/walck.html
16. SalG, I'll see you either Tues. or Wed. morning of Hershey. I'll stop by your spot.
  17. I feel that as a judging team, we are to work together to judge the cars to the best of our (the teams) ability. To me that means if I as a Chevy/Willys person go to a car to be judged and I see something that is wrong, it is my duty to mention it to the judge covering that area of the car.
The teams I have been on over the years usally had a Chevy, Ford , and Mopar person on them. Normally at breakfast while talking, we try to find out were each other strong suits are, so we can help each other.
When signing up to judge, You normally put in for classes that you something about the cars. I wouldn't put in for the Model A classes, becuase I know I couldn't tell if the front and rear bumpers were on the wrong ends of the car.
I don't think we need to check VIN numbers to authenticate the car unless you see "red flags" exmaples: The car is enter as one year and all then trim is wrong for that year, Hood scoop on car with wrong eninge size to go with it, a 62 SS Nova (seen one advertised for sale. Nova SSs started in '63), or a 62-65 Chevy II Nova with a choke knob on the dash while the car has a 6 or V-8. (manual chokes were only on 4 cyl cars). these are just some of the things I've seen that not just anybody would see.
As the cars keep getting newer, the VIN does tell us more and more infromation about the car. I feel we should treat it as we would documantion for answering a question only if the is one raised one wether or not it is right. If that person can build a, say Superbird, to the point a mopar person can't tell it's wrong without looking at the vin, fine. If he made errors that the mopar person found without the VIN number's aid, then start taking points. Remember, the judging sheet is broken down into the different parts, take points off for wrong parts, decals, accessories, etc.
Hope that made some sense.
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-23-2000).]
  18. All opposed? hearing no response, motion carried.
  19. Tom, I also have recieved my July-August issue. Haven't got Sept- Oct yet. Probably another 4 weeks or so on that one.
  20. I agree with you ron about it being nice to be able to actually see what you are buying. My point is that these companies are breaking the rules as stated. Hershey, if they are going to allow these companies to sell there, need to rewrite the rules. The way it is now, there are too many exceptions too the rule as stated. If they are going too bend that rule for so many, why not go back to letting people sell farm fresh apples and bend that rule too. I feel like they only enforce the rules they want to at the time. They need to reread the rule C. general requirements and condition 3. on motorized vehicles. It states there are no moving vechiles..... except proplerly marked official vehicles...... . Okay, since when is flea marketing and purchse of item official bussiness? I understand the desire to buy it then, but when people see this, it tends to make them upset. I've heard about this from several people and have seen it myself.
  21. Rick, those tie-dyed t-shirt aren't to be sold anyways.
Flea/swap Market regulations.
sec B. Merchandise and services PROHIBITED from sale or swap.
#7. Jewelry (including but not ;limited to belt buckles, watches, rings and beads), patches, T-shirts (other than those whose emblem or message is automotive related and neither lewd or obscene in its message or graphic represtion..........
What i'd like to know since we are talking about rules & regulations for the flea market is how people get away with breaking rule #11 under what is prohibited.
#11. Tools, hardware, shop service, shop equipment and service literature that is readily available on the open market as determined in the sole discretion of the chairman of the meet, the chairman of the flea market or the owner of the premises where the meet is being held, whichever the case may be.
do these people ever leave their house? or get ads in the mail? Take note to how many vendors are selling just tools, that you can buy at sears, auto parts stores, etc. how about shop equipment? you have TIP (snadbalsters) ,Eastwood and others. I can buy the same stuff from them on the open market without being at Hershey. Aren't they breaking the rules? Or are they lining someone pockets? And as far as things on the open market you have coker tire, J.C. Talyor, Grundy, Dennis Carpenter Ford parts, Universersal Tire. I'm not trying to single out certain companies, these were the first to come to mind. Going back to the rule, this would free up a lot of spots for the "average joe" that wants to sell off some the misc. stuff he has acumalated over the year(s). I understand that having the companies is a good thing in a way but, ONE person gets to decide to let them in.
Can anyone out there tell me the real reason for doing way with the gas golf carts for the handicapped? Now that the handicapped are using electric you can't hear them come up from behind and people are walking into, or stepping backwards into thier path becuase they can't be heard. I know the reason and it wasn't due to an accident invovling a hadicapped cart. I'm biting my tongue on this.

Thanks Jim for correcting me. I forgot it was '57 on the FC pickups not '55. I'll slap my wrist for that mistake.
I agree Carl is a good guy too deal with.
  23. That's 8 a year. Congratulations. it'll be a while before I get that many. I've been judging for 13 years and have 41 credits. diesel fuel is my biggest expense now. I have slide-in camper for the truck with all the convenices of home except a PC.Cutting that hotel bill out really helps. I find the prices outrageous.
  24. Sorrry you're not gonna make Hershey. If it doesn't rain, we'll now know who brings it to Hershey.
Have fun on the Glidden Tour. I'd like to go on a national tour. They have finally gotten one for the newer cars that my Chevy II Novas could go to. We had one here (NC) back in the spring. Due to a dirty 4 letter word, (work) I didn't get to go. Maybe someday.
I'll go check on Father Ron and make sure he doen't overtake your spaces
By the way. Since when is the Orioles in the world series good excuse to miss the holy week of Hershey?
take car and have fun on the Glidden
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-15-2000).]
Typo.. that is take care and have fun. Although I guess you need a car on the Glidden.

[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-15-2000).]
  25. SalG, you pointed out that it 10 credits for master judgein regards to the 10 posts for senior member on the DF. At 357 posts shouldn't you be in the retired old fogey master senior member class?
Heck, in judging you reach a new level every 25 or 50 times. What does it take on here? What about it Peter?
[This message has been edited by novaman (edited 09-14-2000).]
