  1. From the meet chairman: “All 3 gates will be open all 3 days. People will be available to direct those to each area. Gate 2 would be closest to the flea market.”
  2. Since we are expanding to other area nearby hotels they have asked that there be no trailer parking in their lots since many will be full. Typically the lots are not designed with too many extra parking spaces especially with trailers that can take 4 spaces plus at a time. With that said and to answer your question: yes you will be able to pay for trailer parking the day of arrival if not already prepaid.
  3. From our meet chairman: Deadline is April 30, although we will not turn down flea market vendors who show up for the meet as long as they are either willing to join AACA on the spot, or are already members.
  4. Yes, possibly the committee should have inserted the word manufactured or assembled however the intent was to try and pin down true PA vehicles thus the reasoning for also inserting the word “headquartered”. Personally I think it would be impossible for anyone to accurately come up with a list of what parts that were manufactured in house for over 300 vehicles that are 80 to 100 years old. The list we are using for a base was developed by the Swigart Museum who in my option did a great job developing this document. We are just a bunch of old car guys and gals trying to do the best we can in organizing a national meet and trying something a little different with this special PA vehicle feature display. Maybe it will work and maybe it won’t but we tried something different.
  5. From the attached PDF of PA vehicles above; please tell me which manufactures from that list bought the majority of their parts for assembly and did not manufacture them at their plants since the majority of the vehicles on that list are in the 1898 to 1915 age range? Also where would a person find that information (especially vehicles prior to 1915) as I would like to do some follow up research on this and I can’t seem to find that info anywhere. Thanks in advance.
  6. Charlie, the intent of the committee in charge of this portion of the meet is to have true 100% PA vehicles that were both headquartered and build in Pennsylvania featured. With the said we certainly understand that VW manufacturing is a part of PA history so consideration would be given (possibly a Rabbit car and pick-up) to a few select VW’s for display with signage noting the PA connection. I don’t believe that a special “featured” display like this with class judging in place has ever been done at a AACA national meet so we are learning. We are hoping to fill Building T at the fairgrounds with some historic and unusual PA vehicles that will interest many.
  7. After a discussion with the meet chairman and some research on where the Volkswagen of America was “headquartered” back in the day; in 2008 Volkswagen of America’s “headquarters” moved from Auburn Hills, Mich., to Herndon, Va. Volkswagen’s Westmoreland (New Stanton PA) Assembly Plant was considered a manufacturing plant. The New Stanton PA plant manufactured the Golf / Rabbit (79–84); Rabbit GTI (83–84); Rabbit Pickup (1979–1982); the Golf Mk2 and GTI (85–89) and the Jetta (87–89).
  8. You win. My 55’s accessories and options are all correct for the year and model. Certain accessories like the deluxe steering wheel, stainless fender skirts, etc were not available on the lower end Chieftain series. The traffic light viewer (not offered separately) and visor were a packaged unit (I have NOS in the box set-up) thus one accessory as the viewer was not needed without the visor. A 6-way power seat wasn’t available until 1956 and dual spotlights were not available for 55. 1955 was the first year the 287 V8 was offered. I have been looking for the following correct for 1955 accessories: radiator insect screen, exterior extremely large 3 piece bumper mounted insect screen and the umbrella (4 styles offered). My vehicle has the umbrella holder however the umbrella is missing. Willing to pay top $ for any of these items.
  9. Hi Charles, Been crazy busy and haven’t been posting here for a while. My 55 Custom Catalina has 51 out of a possible 62 factory options and accessories. A few of the oddballs; Thermaster refrigerator, Thermaster hot/cold liquid jug, rear window defogger, ladies purse holder, Remington auto/home shaver, autronic eye, compass, etc. Paul Decker has one similar to mine however it was a dealers wife’s car and has a few more goodies. A few of the awards are; POCI gold (3 times), AACA grand national senior (4 times), Amelia Island Concours and Greenwich Concours (1st in class), featured on My Classic Car with Dennis Gage. Vehicle currently is on loan to the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown PA.
  10. Made a wood frame on the trailer floor next to the side door so the jack wheels fit inside plus chained the handle to the side of the trailer so it doesn't move and it also keeps the jack wheels from moving around. Many miles and zero isses.
  11. If this display of PA vehicles comes together like we are hoping it should be stunning. There are a few one of a kinds out there and somewhat local and hopefully obtainable.

  13. According to the seminars I attended on this subject (and the website) the HO's will be available and are not on the hit list.
  14. T-12 HO’s are here to stay. Other non HO T-12’s stopped production in July however there is still a fair amount in the pipeline. http://applications.nam.lighting.philips.com/legislationcalc/search-results/?shape=reflector
  15. Bob, you said you have high output tubes and they are designed a little differently so you can’t insert regular tubes in a HO fixture. The HO’s have 2 pins in a somewhat square piece of plastic.
  16. I remember that forecast. It was guaranteed 2’minimum. Even the caterpillars were furriery than usual with thicker black rings and Punxsutawney Phil woke up and moved to another borrow.
  17. When the team captain comes up to you right before they judge your vehicle simply tell him if there are any questions regarding authenticity on anything to please see you. It is up to you to have the documentation on your vehicle to be able to show and answer his question(s). I have been through the process many times with my 55’s accessories.
  18. Chris was one of a kind. Our AACA Region is fortunate to be part of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) and we hold our meeting in the Chris Economaki library. His lifetime of photographs, articles, etc are housed at EMMR and I try and dig into something new at each visit. www.emmr.org
  19. Quote: “What do you have for a exhaust deflector and what car?? I'm looking for something for my 27 Buick Woodie. LeBaron Bonney had a few.” Mine is factory correct for a 1955 & 1956 Pontiac . I do not know anything regarding the 27 Buick's.
  20. There probably were as many aftermarket exhaust tips manufactured as there are factory correct accessory exhaust tips. Many shapes and sizes. For factory correct you need to look in the correct model year factory ligature as they are well documented. My exhaust deflector (factory typically called them deflectors not tips) which is an odd shape has been checked for originally many times by AACA judges without issues as I had the correct factory documentation.
  21. Or…………………. after driving 600 miles to a show / tour you pull your highly detailed car out of the trailer at the hotel in the rain so you can take your rig 100 miles (one way) to go get a friend’s car that broke down on the way to the event. A friend who no longer questions why you have a trailer especially since he is always borrowing tools and parts to keep his car going.
  22. My 2 cents on an old continuing discussion: Apparently to some if you trailer a vehicle for whatever reason some consider it snobby, unnecessary, ridiculous, not good for the hobby, not part of the hobby, being a showoff, etc. Most never spent thousands of hours restoring a vehicle (or multiple vehicles) themselves as you and many others have done. It is easy making a perfect vehicle to a driver however impossible to take a driver to a perfect vehicle. If your enjoyment is restoring to perfect, again good for you however that too is frowned on by some. My antique insurance policy states that the vehicle must be in a secured lockable place overnight. Personally I find a trailer handy when traveling especially for tours far from home. Lots of room for spare parts and luggage and you’re not driving an old vehicle on a interstate and one that may have a top speed of 50 (dangerous). Get there, unload and have fun. I have brough a few back with broken suspensions on the trailer. There is room in this hobby for all: tin can or no tin can.
