  2. Plastigauge is the most accurate way to check ther bearing clearance with ther engine in the car. You want 0.002 clearance on the rod bearings. Buy the green plastigauge package. You will not get the same clearance across the whole beraring. It will vary slightly. Wipe the oil off the cap and the part of ther bearing that shows before you use the plastigauge. When you remove the rod caps, write down the direction that the little arrow on the cap is poiinting. It has to go back the same way as it was. Keep the caps on the same rod that you removed them from. The simplest way is to do one rod at a time. After you put all the caps on, double check ther direction of the arrows. If there are no craks in the bearing material and you can get the 0.002 clearance I would not change them. If you had good oil pressure, the oil pipe joints are probably good but you can fill ther pipe wth solvent and check for leaks as long as you have it off. it is a good Idea to run some solent through it to get the sludge out of it. Remember to put the mechenics wire in the holes through the bolts that hold the pipe to the crank shaft. Clean the oil pup screne and the oil pan. Check the oil pump screen for holes. If you have to pull the rod, you have to put the crankshaft in the correct position depending which rod you are removing. If you do not have the shop manuel, let me know and I will e mail you the page. fred.rawling@live.com Fred

  11. Here is my 2 cents: For 1926 and 1927 Buicks you can substitute any 1928 to 1930 single contact distributor. It is a drop in fit with no other alterations. You time it like a more modern distributor by rotating the cup. You do not have to use the nut at the bottom of the distributor. You can buy the cap, rotor, condenser and points at the auto parts store. Just ask for late 1940's Chevy parts. 1922 - 23 4 cyl. & 1922 through 1927 6 Cyl. rotors are available from Bob's. He reproduced them. Some of my catalogs list 1921 as the same, some list it with the earlier part number. I have 3 sets of points for 1917 to 1922 available for $55.00; 1 set of 1923 to 1927 points at $80.00; several sets of 1928 to 1930 single contact distributor points for $4.00 or heavy duty version of the same for $6.00., and one 640 A distributor (1928) for $85.00 with new points (gear is worn). 21. Buy brass core plugs . Check these guys out. They have the right sizes. I put a little Permatex c#2 on them before I put them in. You can tap them in using a socket. To get them out I tap on one side of the plug with a punch or screw driver to get it to start to turn in the hole. Then pull it out with channel locks. Check the plug at the back of the head. Buy enough to do all the core plugs. You will need them. Buy am extra one or two in case you discover that you missed one or mess one up. It is cheaper than postage https://freezeplugfactory.com/about/ 1 7/32 inch dis for Master. I can not find the Standard size right now. e-mail me if you need it. fred,rawling@live.com
  22. The car pictured above is a master 120, 127 inch wheel base or Master., The Jaxon 23 or Jaxon 34 rims in 4 1/2 in, wide will both work. The wheel bolts on these cars are not real hard. If you try to pull the rim up tight against the wheel, you can strip the bolt threads. If you over tighten the bolt, you can bend the end of the bolt. Also if you can not finger tighten the nut on the bolt, you should dress the threads on both of them.
