  1. Yes! CJE will be immediately after the afternoon schools on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. School starts at 2:00 PM and we will be done by 3:20 PM so that CJE can be taught and finished by 4:00 PM. The afternoon schools will be held at the Music Box Theater in HersheyPark near the old ice arena (where we used to have the judges breakfast) There is a gate into HersheyPark between the ice arena and the building where the showers are. The Music Box Theater is just a short walk from there. There will be many CJE topics to choose from.
  2. Susan: The Class Judging Committee had a very heavy agenda for Kalamazoo with several pressing items and the T-3 issue will be on the agenda for the committee's Hershey meeting.
  3. This same question about a chassis (with no body) in the commercial class came up at judging school in Kalamazoo this past weekend. I answered it and confirmed with the Vice President of Class Judging, Hulon McCraw that I had replied correctly. As long as the vehicle owner has documentation that the vehicle was delivered from the factory that way, it will be accepted for AACA judging. Rick Lay Chairman - Judges Training
  4. When I first got my 1923 Buick touring, I was constantly clashing the gears. I made this remark one day to someone who had a lot of these era vehicles and he asked me if I wanted him to teach me how to shift these cars without any clash. I got in beside him and he showed me. From dead start, use the clutch to put it in first. As soon as you start to roll, use the clutch and shift into 2nd and then almost immediately use the clutch and shift into third. With a little practice, I got it shifted without any clash whatsoever. I was forever grateful to this gentleman and I was much happier with the Buick. These 20's cars were, for the most part, geared very low for poor road conditons and third gear has a very long range. Top speed with the '23 Buick was about 45 MPH.
  5. At 3:00 PM I got to see the 1904 Rambler chugging its way down the street - what a neat (and fun) car!
  6. I hope they are still paying for your rental.
  7. Dawne and I just finished reading the account of this ordeal with grateful hearts that our friends are safe! I hope you don't have nightmares about all this.
  8. An incorrect(non-authentic)battery warrants the maximum deduction of 3 points.
  9. As the tire itself is not the issue (we presume it says tubeless, which is OK), let's address the missing tube. As it is an unseen item - we need to treat it like we do other unseen items in judging. We have a rule that we do not remove a component to inspect another component (like spare tires in an enclosed carrier - if we cannot see it, we assume it to be correct and in excellent condition - so there is no point deduction). We need to carry this spirit forth in the issue with the tube question also. As the valve stem is the only thing we can see, David is correct in taking 1 point per incorrect valve stem. Rick Lay Chairman, Judges Training
  10. I quote from the 2007 Judging Manual - page 21 - "Tubeless tires with a tube will be allowed without removing the word "tubeless" on vehicles that did not come with tubeless tires." In AACA Class Judging, there will be no point deduction in this regard. Rick Lay Chairman, Judges Training
  11. This notice was originally posted in the AACA General category and has been moved to Buy/Sell.
  12. The 1949 Frazers (the 1950's were reserialed leftovers) are definitely pleasing to the eye with their eggcrate grilles. Joe Frazer always remarked that he was most proud of this car as it was "all his" as far as design approval, etc. It was shortly after that Henry and Joe had their big falling out and Joe packed up and left. The 1951 Frazer existed only to continue to use up the 10,000 or so leftover bodies from 1949 and 1950 - the whole reason Joe and Henry had their rift. Joe knew the car business and advised to retrench on production until they had a new body style ready. Mr. Kaiser stated that the Kaisers never retrench. The result was an overproduction of cars that did not sell and were reserialed for 1950 and then still marketed in 1951 as Frazers. You are exactly right in your assessment - both men had their strengths - and together they made a good team. It is just too bad Henry could not see that.
  13. I have finally ventured down into the "other makes" and am equally delighted to have this forum - they are definitely "my" favorite car!
  14. When AACA had a Winter National Meet in Sarasota in 2002, the Sarasota Classic Car Museum (formerly Bellm's) still had one of the Stevens' prototypes you mentioned. They have a website at www.sarasotacarmuseum.org.
  15. Yes, we will be having CJE at Hershey this year! We will try to have an offering after each of the afternoon judging schools at the theater. Hopefully, everyone who needs to get a CJE at Hershey can attend one afternoon or the other (Wednesday or Thursday). If there is still someone who has a hardship, we will try to accomodate them on an individual basis. We would prefer, however, to get everyone in on one of the two days. We have been covering the school this year in about an hour and fifteen minutes. The typical CJE lasts about 40 minutes. Our goal is to have both school and CJE within the two hour time frame - so that those with spaces do not have to be away any longer than is absolutely necessary.
  16. The date for the Hershey school is May 5th at the Hershey Region headquarters next door to the AACA Museum. Randy Rutherford will be teaching the school.
  17. Yes, there will be a judging school in Hershey in April. I am not sue of the date, but there should be some info from the Hershey Region soon.
  18. I was only able to get the AACA rate for Friday and Saturday nights. In past years, Thursday night has been included on the reduced rate. Is Thursday night out, or did I get someone who was not with the program?
  19. Jay, this very question came up two different times at the Hershey judging schools. We are going to try to have a CJE program at Hershey next year - perhaps Friday afternoon. I hope this helps. We had 44 folks at the Wednesday afternoon school, 46 for the Thursday afternoon school and 45 for the Friday night school. This was a good turnout compared with the two previous years.
  20. Sparky65: There will be three judging schools offered at Hershey - Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM and Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM.(both at the Music Box Theater in HersheyPark)and Friday night at 7:00 PM at the Hershey Region's headquarters next to the AACA Museum. The school lasts 2 hours or less and will enable you to participate in the apprentice team program on Saturday. We will be signing up apprentices at the schools, so you can get on board at one of the three offerings. All apprentices get to attend the Saturday morning judges breakfast (7:00 AM) at the Giant Center and then participate in the apprentice program that begins at 10:00 AM (the start of judging at Hershey). The apprentices receive the same judging credit and chip that field judges receive. Once you have completed the apprentice team program, you are ready for your first field assignment at future AACA National meets - and you leave Hershey with two juding credits (one for school and one for the appentice team). We would love to have you join us! Rick Lay Assistant Chairman - Judges Training
