1. Out of curiosity, about how may vehicles will we have on the field Saturday?
2. On a recent episode of "My Classic Car," host Dennis Gage is looking at the Horch Belonging to Judge Joseph Cassini and refers to it as a "Hork" to which Judge Cassini says "correct." I have been pronouncing it wrongly all these years as "Horsh."
3. I just went on his website and signed up! Thanks Steve so much for the head's up. Richard is indeed a great asset to the hobby - I like his writing style and he is just a very "down-to-earth" individual. I enjoyed a conversation with him in Gettysburg at the AGNM, where he served ably as one of our Zenith judges.
4. Registration for spaces arrived here in East Tennessee Saturday, January 2nd - mailed from Hershey on the 19th of December.
5. I first met Art Griffin in 1984 when he and Arlene were hosting a national meet of the Kaiser Frazer Owners Club in Pigeon Forge, TN. He saw I was registered and I lived nearby. He called me up and asked me to bring my barbeque grill. My first evening as a new member of the club was spent cooking 350 hot dogs. As Art said, it was a quick way to get acquainted with everyone in the club! It was also my introduction to Art Griffin and his "servant" attitude about everything he was involved in. I can honestly say that my life has been enriched greatly by knowing this man. We have had many adventures over the past 32 years and I have been a guest at his home and he at mine. I will miss him as a friend and as a mentor.
6. Got my mirror hanger for parking today. I am looking forward to Auburn!
7. I see the mysterious Binford has now appeared in the latest Hemmings under Pre-1916 for sale. And, it now has claims to being owned at one time by Austin Clark. Mr. Clark being one of the authors of the Standard Catalog of American Cars, I think that if it had any legitimacy, it certainly would have been included by him.

This RHD export now resides in East Tennessee.
9. I almost bought a Monroe at Hershey some years ago. There is a great color article in an Automobile Quarterly from the early 90's featuring Lloyd & Shirley Young's Monroe in Ohio.
10. I am a member of the Jordan Club (Register). We have a quarterly newsletter and get together as a group at Hershey on the field on Saturday by one of the Jordans. The address listed above is correct and dues are $ 20.00 per year. There is also an excellent book on the history of the Jordan automobile that was written by Jim Lackey. It is available through almost any automotive bookseller.
11. I am very sorry to report that Charlie Adams, member of the AACA National Awards Team/Committee passed away suddenly last Thursday morning. Many of our AACA judges are very familiar with and have judged with Charlie. Charlie was also a past AACA National Director. His funeral will be tomorrow in Newnan, GA.
12. Many of you, especially those involved in judging, knew Charlie Adams. Charlie passed away suddenly last Thursday morning. Charlie was, at the time of his death, a member of the AACA National Awards Committee and was a past AACA National Director as well as past president of the Southeastern Region. He resided in Cleveland, GA. His funeral will be tomorrow in Newnan, GA at 2:00 PM.
13. I will echo that the auction driving was a lot of fun! I did not get to drive the Duesenberg, but I got to drive a 1931 Cadillac V-16 limousine - what a handfull that was. It was so quiet running that I had to do like Wayne and look at the gauges to see if it was still running.
14. 1937 Chrysler Airflow C-17. Nice original, 43,761 miles. New fuel pump, tires, brakes, hoses and exhaust. Overdrive, HPOF certified. Asking $ 30,000 o.b.o. Call or email for in-depth description. Randy Rutherford 570-460-8395 or rrutherford@usa.net
15. 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass "S", 350 4-bbl. Auto, 131,000 miles. Great condition, new base coat/clear coat paint. Bucket seats and console, new RWL tires, working AC. Asking $ 10,000 o.b.o. Randy Rutherford 570-460-8395 or rrutherford@usa.net.
16. A non-authentic body is a 40 point mandatory deduction. The non-authentic body rule is described on page 18 of the Judging Guidelines. Rick Lay Chairman, National Judges Training
17. It was a really fun weekend - even my 5-year old daughter Jordan is still talking about it. We had the words to the Thunder Road song printed in our tour book. Every day, Jordan wants me to sing the song for her. The words to the song must be pretty good, because I certainly can't sing!
18. Matthew - that is a very good suggestion. Part of my volunteer position job description is to update the Official Judging Guidelines (manual) each year. There were several similar clarifications made to this year's version (i.e. Safety Glass - we always accepted it, but had never so stated in the guidelines). This is an excellent suggestion and I will add it to the list of things to be discussed/approved by the Class Judging Committee. Thanks! Rick Lay Chairman, Judges Training
19. Brand is not important. Rick Lay Chairman, Judges Training
20. Woe to all vehicle owners on the field now that Burgess will be judging. Seriously, Wayne - you did great and will make a great addition to the judging ranks! As we say, you have now joined the "hobby within the hobby."
21. Thank you, Mike. I had a great time as well and the Apprentice Team was a good cohesive group. I look forward to seeing you on the field!
22. Ron - I have not received a request for materials yet. Rick Lay Chairman, National Judges Training
23. We have a new PowerPoint school presentaion for 2008 that was premiered at the Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. Even if you should decide you do not want to continue in the judging program, we try to make the apprentice team experience something that is fun while also learning the AACA judging system and what a point is worth! Rick Lay AACA National Judges Training
24. Obviously we have some exceptions to "How could it have looked when it left the factory." If I were asked about these dealer decals/nameplates by an apprentice or in judging school, my response would be to look at these the same way we look at lettering on commercial vehicles. We allow letering on commercial vehicles as long as it is "consistent with the age of the vehicle" (page 19 of the 2007 manual). Like the lettering, however, the decals/nameplates would be subject to point deduction for condition.
25. Yes! CJE will be immediately after the afternoon schools on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. School starts at 2:00 PM and we will be done by 3:20 PM so that CJE can be taught and finished by 4:00 PM. The afternoon schools will be held at the Music Box Theater in HersheyPark near the old ice arena (where we used to have the judges breakfast) There is a gate into HersheyPark between the ice arena and the building where the showers are. The Music Box Theater is just a short walk from there. There will be many CJE topics to choose from.
