1. Sad news indeed. Thoughts and prayers to Fran and the rest of the family.
2. Not being able to get to our trailers on Sunday morning until after 9a.m. is going to be a problem.......
3. aacalifeer, Thanks I will check them out. Oldsfan (Paul), I was working with Jeff Berg from the Springfield tourism for about a month. He put our needs out to bid. He told me that the weekend we needed in 09 wasn't available. I don't know, but I'm guessing that the Crowne Plaza would be a bit too pricey for our group. Thanks anyway....... John
4. I need hotels........ not cities......... thanks anyway. John
5. To All: In addition to all my work with the AACA, I am the National Management Director for the National Monte Carlo Owners Association........ yes...... Chevrolet......... yes, they are real cars........ OK, enough jokes already! Anyway, we are in our 24th year of operation. I am having difficulty finding new venues for our annual Convention/Monte Carlo Nationals. We will be enjoying our 23rd annual event this June. However, I don't have a location for 2009 yet. Our history and references are good. That is not the problem. The problem is finding new locations. Without going through the list of where we have been, I'm hoping that I can tell you basically what we need and a geographic location. Our event is always held right at the host hotel. Thus, a local park etc. is not in the mix. We need a hotel that has at least 125 rooms, a 1000 square feet room for our registraton/auction/merchandise sales. We also need a large room for our awards ceremony on Sunday morning (theater seating for about 200). Hotels aren't very hard to find that meet that criteria....... the problem is finding a hotel that has about 2 to 2.5 times as many parking spaces as they have rooms. Example: 200 rooms = 400 to 500 parking spaces. Yes, the trailers and tow vehicles are the problem. Each year, the trailer problem gets worse......... OK, no more jokes about the Monte Carlo! I would like to find a nice venue in northern or southern Illinois. I will consider the St. Louis MO area and also the Southern part of Wisconsin. If I come up empty there, I will consider other areas that are somewhat close to those area. I have come up empty with the Springfield area, the Collinsville area, and now the Rockford area. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated........ John
6. I would suggest that the yellow plugs be replaced with black plugs. The black plugs look more natural and tend to blend in with the rest of the vehicle........ regardless of the paint color on the vehicle. Yellow plugs will stand out like a sore thumb! I'm just guessing...... but in most cases, the black plugs would go un-noticed and result in no deductions. John
7. [color:"blue"]I think I overheard a couple chassis judges ask the vehicle owner; "Is there anything you would like done while I'm down here?" John
8. ("remember you're only supposed to use one knee to look professional") [color:"blue"] In the AACA, you are permitted one or two knees. Unless you are "proposing" to the automobile owner , I'm not certain either looks more "professional". John
9. Earl L. Muir, from Ligonier PA, died on Tuesday evening December 26, 2006. He was a former national director and a member of the Laurel Highlands Region, Flood City Region, and Western Pennsylvania Region. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Velma The family suggests memorial contributions in Earl's name to the AACA Library........ John
10. [color:"blue"]Went in the mail today......... By the way........ I'm in no official position to grant the raises...... they just "happen".
11. [color:"blue"]I'm certain that the AACA judges have been losing sleep wondering about, and waiting for the next judges' newsletter. I got it back from the printer on Friday. We are currently in the 'peel and stick' mode (address labels, stamps, seal tabs). We are a little ahead of schedule..... they are not due out until January. I will be overloading the US Postal service on December 26th..... assuming that is a work day for the postal service. All AACA judges will be getting a 100% pay raise beginning January 1st.......... thanks for all great work the AACA judges do throughout the year! John - Editor
12. Steve........ my bad......... I was just referring to no cost for the judging school...... should not have assumed that the weekend registration fee was going to be paid. John
13. There is no difference in the judging school and there is no fee for current AACA members! No need to sign up in advance either........... just be there! The judging school should last 1.5 to 2.0 hours. See you there........ John
14. Fran, Geez...... I'm better at trying to shame them into buying when I'm there live and in person! If I figure a way to get some of these forum members to cut loose with $50 I'll let you know. Hmmmmm, $50........ It is now costing more than that for a tank of gas. Come on folks, let's fill up the AACA tanks......... let's buy the tickets! John
15. You might want to check out this company....... www.mac-ink.com John
16. ex 98, Allstate (my company) totalled the damaged trailer. The estimate was about $3500 in parts and $5,000 in labor......... They gave me a very fair settlement and I have purchased a Featherlite Enclosed. The new trailer has a slight V-nose and is 1,000 pounds lighter. I now get an extra 1.25 miles per gallon..... not much, but every little bit helps! Thanks for asking......... John
17. ex98...... you are correct! JC Taylor handled the request based on history and driving records. Problem solved......... thanks. John
18. Cindy, Melissa, and I will be there......... arriving late afternoon Thursday. John
19. Gosh....... I love a happy ending........ kinda like watching an old Lassie show! John
20. I just got off of the phone....... Bob Wallace from J.C. Taylor was kind enough to contact me today. Everything is working out well with J.C. Taylor......... Thanks to everyone for your input and for Peter making the contacts....... John
21. Sorry Peter, Not trying to violate any policy.......... I'm guessing this thread is now boarderline......... I was/am trying to seek info from our membership on their experiences with all insurance companies and how to involve the youth in our hobby and still have our vehicles insured. In the process, I was trying to update everyone to what I found out yesterday.......... but, I'm still not certain what I found out. LOL........... You can slap my hands in Asheville if you are coming......... if not, see you in Hershey! John
22. Greg, No, that wasn't the exact response. However, after being put on hold about 5 times so that Mary Ellen could go talk to Paul Jakubowski the underwriter, and Mary Ellen relaying the questions to him and the answers to me............. that is what is sounded like on my end. I did ask to speak with Paul directly......... that did not happen. Now, maybe Paul was very busy at the time.......... but, they should have taken my number and called me back when he had more time to speak with me directly. Yes, it sounds as if they do things "case by case". However, I see none of what I was told in writing. Will the first person on this board that feels very comfortable with any insurance company that states things verbally but it is not included in the written policy please raise their hand............. J.R. Yes, we (April and I) are going to purchase Harry's Monte! John
23. Disclaimer: I do truly appreciate all that J.C. Taylor does for the AACA, the local regions, the membership, and the hobby. Ok, here is the scoop.......... There really are no limits to the unlimited amount of possible limitations that could limit one's unlimited fleet of Monte Carlos. After discussing all of the possibilities that are possible, but not probable, it is still possible to own a Monte Carlo and all of the endless possibilities that come with ownership. However, one should be aware that the unlimited possibilities could be limited in the possible event that limitless fun is a slight possibility........................ Ummmmmmmm, could you put that in writing for me????????? John
24. I plan on calling tomorrow............ we will see! John
25. Steve, Getting it insured isn't my big problem........... how do you get it insured and let the youth of today drive the car and enjoy the hobby if they are younger than 25 years old? John
