I think I have a model 70 trans. Bought at auction thinking it was a 80/90. What are your casting numbers on both the top and main case?
-
I seen some 37 to 42 studebaker parts in your photos.

I know this is not local to you. But you can ship the broken leaf to them to make a replacement. Their first building was about a mile from the Studebaker factory. https://www.pbstruckparts.com/

I did the search and could not find prior discussions. Contact John Cislak for reproduction. Or I can help with repair or rebuild.

Search this topic. Its been covered before. Many options of what to do.

As Gary said be very careful removing the head. Every one I've seen have been bonded to the block.

I have some that look like those also. Pivot braces for rumble seat lid.

How did it fail?

Post a photo of your whole wheel. Looks like you have a 33 not 32. Center attached differently.

That car in photo was restored many years ago by Jake Nice of Pa. Yes they are chromed from the factory. Many club members have had them done, but I do not have a plater to recommend. Yes you do have to remove the center section for plating.

Back off the eccentric and loosen the anchor pins.

Yes there is a rubber used as a drip edge there. I got the print from the museum when doing them. I'll see if I can locate it. It's not flat. It is more of a opened L shape. It doesn't really seal the lid, Just guides the dripping water to the channel.

@studerex So, what did you do to rejuvenate an old pancake-style filter to use on that engine?
It's NOS. I have more.

I had a customer tell me of the method he used to replace the horn button retaining rubbers. I tried it on a nos retainer that had the rubber rock hard. Cut the old rubber on the backside and push out. Then on the new rubber put a slit to the pin holes to the inside edge of hole. Press the rubber between the metal plates and around the pins. Then put a drop of super glue. See photos. It works.

The 1941 radio tag number starts with 18 and 1942 starts with 19. That code works going backwards. 1940 being 17. But not after the war.

one caveat, the flipped bracket changes the shock length, so the one I use might bottom out on a correct one...
somewhere I have a kit supplied by studebaker for 1941 champion to convert from lever to tube rear shocks.

There is not a retainer. The spring sits on a ridge in the trans tower. It is important that the shifter stays in position for the freewheeling to function. Do you have a parts manual? There is a good cross section drawing showing the internal parts and position. This spare trans is 500. I will be at the June South bend swap meet.
