You're correct the pictures are HUGE: 1.8MB @ 3,072x2304 pixels vs an adequate picture that fits 34KB @ 600x450 pixels.

Until Bill resizes there should be a work around in your browser; If using a recent version of Internet Explorer=>Tools=>Internet options=>multimedia=>enable automatic image resizing. Opera browser has a fit to width feature as should Firefox.

Bill, "if you got it, flaunt it" does not apply to picture size...BTY, good job on the plates.

  2. Thanks for the reply. Looks like it will be worth pulling the manifold to look. Electric chokes for me have been a pain in the arsch. I will use a manual choke before an electric. I have never had a problem with the stock Buick choke if the heat tube is functional.

  3. What is above the plate on the bottom of the intake manifold (4 barrel) of late 55 and 56 nailhead?

I have one of these installed on my latest project: 264 nailhead into a 51` F-1. I had to use two left side exhaust manifolds so I lost the usual source of heat for the choke. If there is a deep enough cavity and significant exhaust crosses above the plate I may be able to loop some tubing for a heat source.

You need to study the 55 service manual where it tell you all about the torque converter planetary system

  5. Thanks for the replies all. Can you recommend someone who guts the old radio and puts in a modern replacement, connected to the old controls. I have some non working radios that would be good candidates. The one in the truck was just restored and should go into a 6v vehicle.

  6. The speedo with the needle is the base standard speedo for the special. The one with the trip odometer was standard on the Century and optional on the Special. The second speedo has a disc instead of a needle and a red line is exposed as speed increases.

Usually if the speedo is inoperative it is the cable. The units will become inaccurate or noisy but will still "work'.

I am aware of the problems presented by the voltage difference and would rather not alter the radio. Will the polarity be an issue if the voltage to the radio is reduced to 6v?

I would not want smokers in the old cars for fear the ashes would catch the interiors on fire. It also STINKS!

  9. One thing Bill did not mention was that English was not the old guy's first language...probably why he did not say much. Also when the police were called a spanish speaking officer was requested, a normal but sad situation around here and other locations.

Sueing in this county will get you next to nothing since most juries think a $2000 award is a fortune.

  10. Good job Joe and Stevo! Now every chapter will want to host a national. It's OK for us to drive to Michigan or New York for your party, but not the other way around. Our Alamo Chapter will probably not consider hosting since San Antonio is a 'destination city' and will be too expensive, too far, too hot... Just go to a regional and you will not have to associate with all those boring people.

I would worry more about rims that are true with no out-of-round or wobble and cosmetically nice on the exposed outter edges. That is why I ran two 6in rims and two 5.5in rims on my Century...like sizes paired on the same axle. No problems with performance nor were the differences noticable at 122 inches. Where is Lamar when we need some measurements and/or photos...
