  1. You have a 30 amp system. Calculate what the new system requires leaving enough for the other needs.
  2. Click on the envelope at the top of the page (desktop computer).
  3. The one without the white wire going to the middle of the resistor is for 54 Buick, which has 2 speed fan vs 3 speed fan for 55?
  4. Use at least 12 gauge wire from the front to the back. 14 gauge wire will result in voltage drop causing early failure of any pump.
  5. Brackets from a 55 or 56 with factory air can be easily adapted to work on Sanden compressor.
  6. It is supposed to be that way, the bushing in the torqueball keeps it located.
  7. I use cobblers brushable glue; mask both sides of the area outside where the strip goes; do 12" at a time; remove masking tape when finished; use either clear or black.
  8. 10 or 20 cc syringe, coat rubber plunger with Sylglyd to keep from sticking. Source from farm/ranch store.
  9. Low on fluid means that it is leaking. If the fluid is brake fluid you will have to find the leak because brake fluid is corrosive. Corrosive to the point of holes in the body that's new ventilation you know.
  10. 53-55 nailheads used steel camshafts and distributors with compatible gears. 56 used cast camshafts with a different compatible distributor gear. 57 and later nailheads with a different distributor can supply the compatible gear or function as a swap. Consequences of this incompatibility? "Theory" say the gear on the cam will be destroyed, but most early nails that have been rebuilt have this incompatibility and are running fine (?).
  11. Just forget you saw that and never bead blast again.
  12. If the race is in good shape the spindle may be galled from a previous bearing failure. Cut the race off and replace the bearing set. Spindle may need replacement too.
  13. My 55's use the engine number for registration which you need to watch for when changing engine blocks (have the replacement and replaced engines inspected by a state (TX) officer. The frame stamping which matches the A-pillar plate spot welded attachment is on top of the rear frame rail passenger side that can only be read with the quarter panel removed .
  14. My understanding is that it is still present. When backing the primary shoes becomes the secondary and vice versa, so the smaller (front) shoes which may have different friction material becomes the main force. That is another reason to get the shoes arced...if after many miles the poorest contact patch will be on the front shoes.
  15. Remove the rockers. Just a few stuck valves will lock it up.
  16. I have used both you can buy posts that will screw onto the studs of the group 31 battery.
  17. Maybe time for some "attitude adjustment"?
  18. Similar in size just a little taller.
  19. Group 31P will fit the tray and the hold down...just a little taller. Very heavy but lots of power and usually last about 7 years in mine.
