  2. A paint code of 521 is Homer Gray Poly. Poly is an early metallic with very SMALL metal flakes.
  3. Be very careful of using anything on original woodgraining. I understand that the woodgraining is a decal that was set on the dashboard sheet metal before it was stamped into shape. It's the restored stuff that's painted on.
  4. Call this guy, he's got a boneyard of '37-'38 Buicks and is helpful. Dave Tacheny 11949 Oregon Ave. N. Champlin, MN 55316 (763) 427-3460 Check out the 1937-1938 Buick club. This outfit is well worth joining just for the bimonthly magazine, "The Torque Tube" 1937-1938 Buick Club
  5. Runnin' around an old boneyard is one of the simple pleasures of life. Wish I could go. Good hunting.
  6. I had a Pertronix ignition system in my '38 Buick and it ran flawlessly for five years.
  7. I don't know if Dave can help you but it's worth a shot. He has tons of old Buicks. Dave Tacheny 11949 Oregon Ave. N. Champlin, MN 55316 (763) 427-3460

  9. Get there early and bring $500 cash. If you find something you want you can place a deposit and make arrangements with the seller for final payment. Wear old clothes so you can lie on your back and look for rust on the undercarriage of any prospects. Look at the floors, frame, quarter panels and rockers. Look everywhere. A car may appear perfect topside and be a total rust bucket underneath. Bring a flashlight. A magnet wouldn't hurt either, you can touch it to the body and detect filler. Wrap it in electrical tape so you won't scratch the paint. RUST IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE. Mechanical defects are relatively easy to fix, rusted out areas are very expensive to repair and even then aren't always sound. Bring a knowledgeable friend to bounce things off of. Good luck.
  10. It's just a really, really, really FULL restoration when the only original piece is the vin tag. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

  14. The Gentleman I sold my '38 Buick to lives within a mile of the original owner's house. I didn't get all the money, but how could I refuse his offer? Some things are more important. After 68 years the car went home.
  15. I believe that VMR does a better job of real world pricing. They are the most detailed as far as including options etc.into the equation, followed by NADA then Manheim. Maybe it's just wishful thinking.<img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Here's an example. Base car. 1964 Corvette ragtop- NADA---- #1 $66,000 1964 Corvette ragtop- Manheim- #1 $53,000 1964 Corvette ragtop- VMR------#1 $42,000 I know what I'd be looking to pay.
