  1. I have removed over 100 side trims and I simply put my fingers under the trim on the bottom side and pull it away from the door or rear fender. The ends of the door strips and the one on the front fender are bolted on.
  2. I have all the parts and sent you an email. Jim
  3. I have very nice rechromed front bumper available for a '39 Buick and have listed it on Ebay. I have a starting price of $ 115 and will deliver it to Ames Ia. I can stop the auction early. Email me at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  4. I listed the heads on Ebay, Auction number 270612242512 and auction number 270612244193
  5. That's two less Reattas in Noblesville. About a month ago I bought a '91 Reatta from a fellow in Noblesville and it will be a parts car.
  6. I actually have 4 rebuilt heads. Three of them are casting1196914 which is '59-66 364,401 and 425. The other one is 01172889 '59-60 364 and 401.
  7. I have a pair of nail head heads that have been rebuilt and ready to paint and bolt on. I am open to offers on them as I have no use for them myself. I can include free delivery to Ames next week. Jim
  8. Stan, It is a little common for Reattas that have been stored to have that problem. Just drive the car and the problem should go away. I experienced the same problem once myself. I bought a slightly damaged convertible that had been sitting for a while. I repaired it and drove it to the BCA meet in Plano TX. When I started out I had gauge problems but by the time I got home the gauge worked fine and the current owner has never had any more problems. Jim

    GERMAN

Jim, Haven't heard from you for a while. Hope everything is going good. I cannot speak any German. Will you be going to Ames? Jim
  10. The fact that it is a convertible with the Teves ABS tells us it is a '90. The two tone Red and white interior tells us it is a Select 60. Some '91s had two tone interiors but the only '90 with the red and white interior is the S60
  11. Thanks, Ronnie for the recommendation. I do have good CRT/touch screens available but are a little more than Harry's. I recommend buying the one Harry Yarnell has available.
  12. I have to take credit. I am the one who told Chuck it will be OK if he glues several Reatta emblems to his Riv.
  13. I am also disgusted with Ebay and all the crap on there. Raja suggested, and it worked, to do an advanced search and the click on "Auction Only" items. That helps some. Jim
  14. I believe both my sisters will be coming but are not registered so that means two more convertibles.

    outside mirrors

With the mirror off the car you can balance the screw on the end of a Phillips screw driver and then tilt the whole assembly upside down so you can put in the screws. On the car, I have used a screw driver that is magnetized and also put some kind of sticky stuff on the end of the screw driver to hold the screw while going through the small gap. Employing ET is also a good way but he rarely comes to town.

    outside mirrors

Kevin is right. I have had many of these apart and the way to put them back together is to snap the mirror assembly to the motor assembly and then tilt the mirror up and down and through the small gap install the screws. Easiest done off the car but can be done on the car.

    BCM

Thanks all for the recommendations on the parts. I agree the EBCMs rarely go bad but the wheel sensors do. I have EBCMs and I also have good sensors. The EBCMs are pretty cheap but if you can find a new sensor I recommend getting a new one. The reason is, mine are good but because they are so hard for me to get out of the knuckles without damaging them, I have to charge the same price as I have heard you can get new ones for. About $ 75, but like Dave says rumors are that they are not available anymore and rumors are that they are still available. ???????
  18. Myron, I sent you an email. Jim
  19. A Riviera column will work but the cruise control wires are different. I have some good '88-89 steering columns available and can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  20. You guys laugh if you want but I had a guy tell me that for $ 200 he would replace my satsifram and the car would run better. I had him do it and he was right. It seemed to run better
  21. If they are '90 or newer go get the IPCs. These are the most common part to go bad and are getting harder and harder to find. I found a person locally who is repairing '90 and newer IPCs for me and I will soon be able to offer refurbished IPCs with a long term guarantee for a reasonable price. I see you have an '89 so the CRT/touch screens are nice to have as a spare also. You didn't mention getting them so they must have been gone. Nice to have a spare.

    seat swaps

The passenger side 16 way seat does not have the movable thigh support or the lumbar bag. It would not be too much of a problem adding the lumbar bag but the passenger seat does not have the screw rods needed to make the thigh support go in and out. These screws are held into the drivers seat by a roll pin and the pins cannot be pushed out because one side of them is up against a metal part of the thigh support. I am guessing you would have to reuse the thigh support from the drivers seat and if the leather is bad you could remove the cover from the passenger seat thigh support and put it on the drivers side thigh support and then mount the recovered support on the passenger seat. You can put either seat on either side. If a person put a drivers side seat on the passenger side so they could have the movable thigh and lumbar on that side then the pod would have to be moved to the opposite side and everything should work. I think both the cushion covers and the back covers are the same for both the passenger seat and the drivers seat so everything pretty much is interchangeable. From my not so good memory It gets more complicated with the regular seats. The cushions are the same on the drivers and passenger sides referring to both the frames and covers but the backs are different. The hinges on the 16 way seats are stamped steel on both sides but the regular seats have a stamped steel hinge on one side and a pipe type hinge on the other. The cushion frames are drilled and tapped to accept either hinge which is why you can interchange the bottoms. The parts book shows different part numbers for the back covers for the passenger seat and the drivers seat. They look identical but different part numbers. A few years ago I sent a passenger back cover to a lady and she had her upholstery shop try and put it on. They said it couldn't be done and she sent it back. A year or so later I sent another passenger side back cover to another person and explained it probably wasn't going to work but he put it on and looked good.

    PM sent messages?

Ronnie, That was it. Thank you for leading me to the fix, and thanks for all the good you do for the other Reatta owners.

    PM sent messages?

Ronnie, Thank you for the help but it still didn't work. I clicked on the down arrow in the private messages on the left side and it showed "folders" with two boxes. An inbox and a sent items. When I clicked on the sent items it shows sent messages but the newest one was from june 2009 and nothing since. I replied to a PM this morning but it is not showing in the sent folder. Jim

    Spark Plug Wires

Vincent and Mongeoman, You are right and I sincerely apologize. I hate this stuff and do and will try and avoid it. This post started out simply about gray wires and degraded. I will not post any further on this thread unless it is about gray wires. Jim
